2. DOWNLOAD DATA
Go to sakai
Download Physician data
Download NJ county and municipal boundary shapefile
Njgin.state.nj.us
=> Don’t forget to extract all these data to bring them into Arc GIS
4. ADD MUNICIPAL LAYER AT FIRST
So that you can get the right projection in feet
(Arc GIS only recognize the first projection of which the layer is added
at first.
5. CLICK “IDENTIFY” ICON TO SEE THE
INFORMATION OF THE POINTS
If you click one point to identify, you can see there’re many points
overlaying at one point location.
6. THERE ARE SAME LOCATIONS THAT OVERLAY.
HOW DO WE CALCULATE THE NUMBER OF
DOCTORS LOCATED IN THE SAME LOCATION?
7. EXPORT ALL DATA FROM ATTRIBUTE TABLE
Don’t select any case before you export the table data.
If you select, then you will export only selected case as a table data.
9. WHY DO WE EXPORT THIS TABLE DATA, NOT
USING EXISTING DBF FILE THAT ALREADY
EXISTS IN SHAPEFILE?
It’s because, if we use dbf. File which already exist within shapefile,
then you will affect the original data. So, we export this table data
(Think that you are copying it) to adjust /calculate in excel.
13. TYPE THE EQUATION TO JOIN X Y DATA AS A
TEXT FORMAT
= C2&”_”&D2
Combine X and Y value
Not as a value but as a text, that’s why We put under bar so that we
can separate this X_Y data into X and Y.
After counting the number of doctors.
24. SEPARATE THE DATA BY “TEXT TO COLUMN”
Select the row to separate
Go to text to column
Delimited -> Next
25. SEPARATE X_Y VAIRALBE INTO X AND Y
VARIABLES
Check the box “Other” and type “_(underbar)” => Next
26. CLEANING THE DATA
Warning!
“Count of X_Y” should be changed to “Count” or something shorter
than this name without space so that Arc GIS doesn’t get irritated to
recognize this data.
