WCUMC Trustees Announces
Lighting Retrofit Project
WCUMC Trustees are launching a capital Improvement project to reduce
our energy footprint and expenses by replacing all outdoor and indoor
overhead lights (except Sanctuary) with LED lighting; replacing the
dimmer switches to accommodate LED lighting, and replacing all T12
florescent lights bulbs with T8 florescent lights bulbs. T8 florescent
lights bulbs will last 10 years, will not flicker and buzz and will reduce
energy cost by 25 - 50%. Total anticipated cost of this project is
$26,500.
Background and Rationale
Incandescent bulbs will no longer be manufactured after January 1,
2014. LED lights use only 1/3 of the energy of incandescent bulbs and
can last 20 years with normal use.
Our current electricity budget is just over $21,000 per year, and is
the 2nd highest budget line item behind salaries and administration.
PSE has announced a Rebate Program to encourage retrofit
2.
Estimated WCUMC rebate will be $9,000.
Retrofit will reduce our energy bill by 20 - 25%, and should
generate savings of approximately $4,500 per year.
Trustees Recommendation
We are initiating a special Lighting Retrofit Designated Fund to raise
$26,500. We will launch the full project in January upon receipt of PSE
paperwork, but wanted the congregation to know now in the event that
anyone wants to donate to this fund prior to the start of the new
year. More details will be shared soon during the Sunday morning
worship time, and a special display will be set up in the Narthex to
answer questions and keep everyone up-to-date on our progress.
Checks should be written to WCUMC, with Lighting Project on the memo
line. Thank you for supporting this capital improvement project, and
God bless.
We hope to see you in church this Sunday and God Bless.
Have a great week!
