As freelancers we work alone, and can often feel isolated and subject to self-doubt and dips in self-confidence. That’s why it’s important to take deliberate steps to stay positive.
2. You’ll achieve more with a
positive outlook.
It isn’t always easy being a freelancer.
There are days when your confidence will slip,
and you’ll feel less that great.
That’s why it’s important to arm yourself with
habits that help you stay positive, every day.
Here are 12 habits you can try…
3. Go for a walk in the park.
Being surrounded by nature will calm your
spirit, and help clear your mind of negative
thoughts and feelings.
4. Connect with other
freelancers.
Whether in real life, or virtually, it helps to
reach out to and talk with others who face
similar struggles.
5. Capture a happy memory
with your screensaver.
My screensaver is a photo of a rose from our
garden. I love our garden, as it always gives me
a feeling of peace and quiet.
6. Find something to smile
about.
Whether it’s a picture of a deer and a dog being
best friends, or a video of dancing kittens, that
moment of smiling will lift your spirits.
7. Have coffee with a friend.
Feeling alone and isolated? Spending time
face to face with a close friend can help shift
your perspective in a more positive direction.
8. Forgive your imperfections.
It’s OK to be imperfect and make mistakes.
Nobody is perfect, and anyone who doesn’t
make mistakes isn’t trying hard enough or
reaching high enough.
9. Scare yourself a little.
Roller coasters make us scared…and they
make us smile. Try the same with your
freelance business. Take some small risks, feel
the adrenaline…and smile.
10. Get away from your desk.
Your desk may be the best place to focus on
client projects, but is often distracts from
seeing opportunities for your own freelance
business. For big, broad thinking, get outside.
11. Share your successes.
When you achieve a great result, share your
success with others through your blog, social
media, by email or by phone. Hearing people
say, “Great job!” will lift your spirits.
12. Help a friend
Use your freelance skills to help a friend with
their business or fundraising. No fee. Make it
a gift. Helping others reveals the real meaning
and value of the services you provide.
13. Treat Yourself
The freelance life is often all work and no
play. That’s a mistake. Treat yourself. Reward
yourself. Congratulate yourself. You’ll do
better work as a result.
14. Practice Daily Affirmations
As freelancers we often experience self-
doubt and dips in self-confidence. Daily
affirmations help us push out these negative
feelings, and give us the strength to succeed.
