Major capacity gains from network upgrades and increased bandwidth have provided excess capacity to support new enterprise applications. Community groups see the efficiencies of collaboratively implementing enterprise apps. The community wants more from their StateNet than just an ISP and trusts their ability to deliver. Some enterprise apps under consideration are centrally hosted course management systems, large-scale network storage, video repositories, shared computing, and statewide software licensing. Challenges include requirements analysis, administrative overhead, business models, and community consensus. Strategies involve engaging the community, conducting RFQs, considering member institutions hosting apps, and implementing identity management.
