1. Esther 3
Esth 3:1-4
1) After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman
the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him,
and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
2) And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate,
bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so
commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not,
nor did him reverence.
3) Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate,
said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's
commandment?
4) Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him,
and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman,
to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he
had told them that he was a Jew.
Haman is the bad guy; he’s out to get those Jews. When the
Jews celebrate Purim, the book of Esther is read to the children,
and every time the name Haman shows up, the kids all make a
bunch of noise and hiss and boo.
In the plot of the Book of Esther,
Haman is a type of the Devil.
Esther is a type of the Jewish nation.
2. The king is a type of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
You have a Tribulation setup. The book of Revelation, then, is
the originalplot.
In that plot, the woman (Israel) is running for her life. The villain
(the Devil) is out to get her.
The Hero (Jesus Christ) has been killedand buried. But He
comes up from the dead and makes a miraculousrecovery.
He shows up at the last minute to face off with the villain, and
when He shows up, He comes with a cavalry.
After He defeats the villain,He marries the woman, and they
have a honeymoon for a thousand years.
Then they move into the Father’s house, and they live happily
ever after.
Now, instead of Mordecai being promoted for saving the king’s
life, Haman is advancedto the position of the chief prince.
Although he is not given the same title, he is in much the same
positionas Danielwas in Daniel6. We would call him a “prime
minister,” today.
Notice that he is called “the Agagite;” that is, he was descended
from Agag. Who was Agag? 1 Samuel 15:8. Agag was a king
over the Amalekites during the reign of Saul in Israel. God
commanded Saul to utterly destroy the Amalekites for
ambushing Israel in the wildernessin Exodus 17:8–16. God
swears eternal war against the nation of Amalek.
3. 1Sam 15:8 And he took Agag the king of the
Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people
with the edge of the sword. KJV
Exod 17:8-16 Then came Amalek, and fought with
Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men,
and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand
on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine
hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and
fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went
up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his
hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his
hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a
stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and
Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the
one side, and the other on the other side; and his
hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people
with the edge of the sword.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a
memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of
4. Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of
Amalek from under heaven.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it
Jehovahnissi:
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the
LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to
generation. KJV
Numbers 24:20. When the Lord says that “Amalek was the first
of the nations” He doesn’t mean that they were the first people
to become a nation(Gen. 10); He means that they were the
first nationto attack Israel when the nation came out of Egypt.
As a result, God had a special “grudge” against Amalek.
Num 24:20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took
up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the
nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for
ever. KJV
In Numbers 24:7, the Lord says that “his (Jacob’s) king shall be
higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.” So, the
Lord is going to bless Israel and spread them out and make that
nation’sking (eventuallyJesus Christ) more powerful than the
king of the Amalekites. Moreover, He says back in Numbers
24:20, “his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.” Amalek
5. has the same fate as “all the nationsthat forget God” (Psa.
9:17).
Num 24:7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets,
and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king
shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be
exalted. KJV
Num 24:20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took
up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the
nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for
ever. KJV
Ps 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all
the nations that forget God. KJV
What does God have against Amalek besides the attack on
Israel? Well, the first thing is that the nationis descended from
Esau, the rejected son of Isaac (Gen. 36:12–16). He said, “Jacob
have I loved, but Esau have I hated” (Rom. 9:13, Mal.1:2–3).
Amalek was also descended from a Hamitic mother (specifically
a Canaanite—Gen.36:2, 12), a woman of a cursed race.
Gen 36:12-16 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz
Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these
were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.
6. 13 And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and
Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of
Bashemath Esau's wife.
14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the
daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife:
and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.
15 These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of
Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke
Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,
16 Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these
are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of
Edom; these were the sons of Adah. KJV
Rom 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but
Esau have I hated. KJV
Mal 1:2-3 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye
say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau
Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, 3
And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his
heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. KJV
Gen 36:2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of
Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and
Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of
Zibeon the Hivite; KJV
7. Gen 36:12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz
Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these
were the sons of Adah Esau's wife. KJV
Those are the same people Israel is battlingright now. The
people that are called Palestinians. The only difference is that
when the “Haman” of Revelation 13 (The Antichrist) will nearly
succeed where Haman and Hitler failed:he will wipe out the
entire Jewish race except for a small remnant (Rom.9–11).
Back in 1 Samuel 15, instead of doing what he was told, Saul
spared Agag as a kind of trophy of his triumph over the
Amalekites. Although “Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the
LORD in Gilgal” (1 Sam.15:33), evidentlyat least one of Agag’s
children must have survived. Haman is a direct descendantof
Agag.
Chapter 3 is the beginning of a showdown that should have
taken place in 1 Samuel 15,
if Saul had obeyed the Lord and had killed all of the Amalekites
as he was commanded.
Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin, and he was given direct
orders from God to wipe the Amalekites out.
There is also a chance that Mordecai was a direct descendant of
the house of Saul (Esth. 2:5 cf. 2 Sam. 16:5, 1 Sam. 9:1–2). So,
8. God is about to close the books on the Amalekitesas a nation,
and He is going use a relative of Saul to do it.
Esth 2:5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a
certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of
Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;
KJV
2Sam 16:5 And when king David came to Bahurim,
behold, thence came out a man of the family of the
house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of
Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came. KJV
1Sam 9:1-2 Now there was a man of Benjamin,
whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of
Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiah, a
Benjamite, a mighty man of power.
2 And he had a son, whose name was Saul, a choice
young man, and a goodly: and there was not among
the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from
his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of
the people. KJV
Verse 2: “And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s
gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so
commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor
did him reverence.”
9. Esth 3:2
2) And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate,
bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so
commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not,
nor did him reverence.
That’s a violation ofRomans 13:1–4.
Rom 13:1-4 Let every soul be subject unto the
higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the
powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth
the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall
receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the
evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do
that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the
same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if
thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth
not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a
revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
KJV
Mordecai is disobeying a direct order from the king.
10. The reason he’s not bowing is because he’s a Jew (vs. 3), and he
knows what God said about Amalek.
Esth 3:3 Then the king's servants, which were in the
king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest
thou the king's commandment? KJV
Esth 3:4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily
unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they
told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters
would stand: for he had told them that he was a
Jew. KJV
He’s in a similar circumstance as Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego were in Daniel 3. In Daniel 3, the three Hebrew
children wouldn’tobey a king’s commandment to bow to an
image. Those who saw them reported their defiance to
Nebuchadnezzar, who had them thrown into the fiery furnace.
They wouldn’tbow, they wouldn’t bend, and they wouldn’t
burn.
Similarly,Mordecai disobeyed a king’s command to bow to a
man whose race was cursed by God. Those who saw him
reported his defiance to Haman, who then planneda campaign
of genocide against the entire Jewish race. Mordecai won’t
bow, he won’t bend, and he won’t be killed.
11. These things are foreshadowing the Antichrist and his image in
Revelation 13.
The Jew was told, when he came out of Egypt, that he was to
have no statues and no images.
When he fooled around with images in the book of Judges, he
suffered for it.
When Solomon fooled aroundwith images he busted up his
kingdom.
When Manasseh gets to messing with them, God draws the line
on Judahand sends them into captivity under Zedekiah.
When the women were burning incense to “the queen of
heaven” (Jer. 44:19) and the priests were burning incense to
images on the walls of the temple chambers (Ezek. 8:10–11). If
the Jew learned one thing through those 1,000 years from the
exodus to the captivity, he learned DON’T BOW DOWN TO
IMAGES!
Then up shows Jesus Christ. He is “the express image” of God
(Heb. 1:3, 2 Cor. 4:4).
Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and
the express image of his person, and upholding all
things by the word of his power, when he had by
himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand
of the Majesty on high; KJV
12. 2Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded
the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of
the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of
God, should shine unto them. KJV
Thomas bows down to “the image” and says, “My Lord and my
God” (John 20:28).
John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto
him, My Lord and my God. KJV
An Orthodox Jew thinks that we Christiansare idolaters, AND
WE ARE! Bible-believingChristians“idolize” Jesus Christ, and
He’s God’s “image.”
Of course, He is an image made by God Himself (Heb. 10:5,
2:9); He’s not a graven image or a molten image or an icon or a
statue or anythinglike that. But you can see the Jews’ way of
looking at things.
Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world,
he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not,
but a body hast thou prepared me: KJV
Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little
lower than the angels for the suffering of death,
crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace
of God should taste death for every man. KJV
13. Having rejected the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord will put them
into a position of choosing between the Devil’s Christ and
bowing down to his image (Rev. 13:15) or choosing the Lord’s
Christ and being killed(Rev. 12:17; 14:1–12).
Rev 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the
image of the beast, that the image of the beast
should both speak, and cause that as many as would
not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
KJV
Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the
woman, and went to make war with the remnant of
her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and
have the testimony of Jesus Christ. KJV
Rev 14:1-12 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on
the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and
four thousand, having his Father's name written in
their foreheads.
2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of
many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and
I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the
throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders:
14. and no man could learn that song but the hundred
and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed
from the earth.
4 These are they which were not defiled with women;
for they are virgins. These are they which follow the
Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed
from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and
to the Lamb.
5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are
without fault before the throne of God.
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them
that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and
kindred, and tongue, and people,
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory
to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and
worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the
sea, and the fountains of waters.
8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon
is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all
nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication.
9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a
loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his
image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his
hand,
15. 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of
God, which is poured out without mixture into the
cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with
fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels,
and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for
ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night,
who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever
receiveth the mark of his name.
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they
that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of
Jesus. KJV
In the passage before us, Mordecai is operating according to
that lesson the Jews learned: don’t bow down or reverence
anything you can see. He won’t bow before Haman because
there is more involvedthan just a politebow or a greeting or a
normal display of honor. There is reverence involved. The bow
here is on the knees with the face on the ground as one would
kneel before God (Dan. 6:10, Eph. 3:14).
Dan 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was
signed, he went into his house; and his windows
being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he
kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and
prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did
aforetime. KJV
16. Eph 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, KJV
Esth 3:5-7
5) And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor
did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
6) And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone;
for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai:
wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were
throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the
people of Mordecai.
7) In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the
twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the
lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to
month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
Here is Haman. He’s getting all of the adulation thatanyone
could ever want. But one guy—just one guy—bothers him
because he won’t bow down.
Verse 6
Esth 3:6
6) And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone;
for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai:
17. wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were
throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the
people of Mordecai.
Establishes Haman as a type of the Antichrist. That desire to
kill every Jew is a Satanic thing (Rev.12). That means that Hitler
was a foreshadow of the Antichrist.
“AdolphHitler” by John Toland;Shows Hitler’s ID card in the

number just was 555.

The God who set up this universe is the God of Mathematics.
18. Somewhere on this earth, at some time in human history,
there has been a 111 (Caesar), a 222 (Constantine), a 333
(Charlemagne), and a 444 (Napoleon).
Each of those men had a number attached to them, without
anyone, intentionally, assigning a number to them.
Number 777 is Jesus Christ.
When the New Heavens and New Earth show up, the Godhead,
itself, will be 888. Eight is the number of something new.
What number shows up after eight? It’s nine, and nine is the
number of fruitfulness.
Take the title King James 1611 Holy Bible. Count the number of
letters in King James. It’s nine. Count the number of letters in
Holy Bible. It’s nine too. When you hold a King James Bible you
have a Book that is “for ever...settled in heaven” (Psa. 119:89).
Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words
shall not pass away” (Matt. 24:35).
Peter said, “The grass withereth, and the flower thereof
falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever” (1
Pet. 1:24–25).
The Scriptures are God’s 999.
They are “seed” (Luke 8:11) which bears fruit (Matt. 13:23).
Matt 13:23 But he that received seed into the good
ground is he that heareth the word, and
19. understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and
bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty,
some thirty. KJV
Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the
word of God. KJV
In verse 7,
Esth 3:7
7) In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the
twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the
lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to
month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
Haman is decidingwhen he will carry out hisgenocide against
the Jews, and he does it by “lot.”
A lot is simply a random chance method of choosing a thing.
Haman has the dice (the Hebrew word being “Pur”) cast to see
the day and the month he should kill the Jews.
First, he finds out the day, which turns out to be the thirteenth,
and then he finds out the month, which turns out to be the
twelfth month: “the month Adar.”
Esth 3:7
7) In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the
twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the
20. lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to
month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
verse 7- Notice something about the Jewish calendar.
The first month has two names.
It is called “Nisan” here.
In Exodus 13:4 (cf. Exod. 12:2) it is called “Abib.” Abib is the
Hebrew word for the spring when the corn is young and green.
Because the Jewish calendaris a lunar calendar it loses 11 days
every year, so the Lord gave the month of the Passover as the
first month of spring to keep the calendaron track.
To do this, the Jews add a thirteenth month 5 times during a
19-year cycle. Otherwise, eventually,Passover would fall back
to winter, then to summer, etc. Nisan is the current name for
the first month of the Jews religiouscalendar. It, and all the
other names of the Jewish months, were adopted from the
Babylonian calendar during the years of exile there.
“casting the lot.” Those are all games of chance. But…
Proverbs 16:33 “The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole
disposingthereof is of the LORD.” That simply means God
determines the outcome.
If you are a Christian, nothing happensto you by accident or by
chance. The promise is “all things work together for good to
21. them that love God, to them who are the called according to
his purpose” (Rom. 8:28).
Before the Holy Spirit was given in Acts 2, God’s people used
the “lot”, but it was not for purposes of gambling. They were
seeking God’s will in an area where it wasn’t readilyrevealed
by Scripture or prophets.
They realized and acknowledged God’s providence in the
matter, and usuallyit was a matter of life and death (such as
Josh. 7:14–26, 1 Sam.14:38–44, and Jonah 1:5–15). The lot was
alwaysa serious matter (such as Acts 1:21–26).
Josh 7:14-26 In the morning therefore ye shall be
brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that
the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come according
to the families thereof; and the family which the LORD
shall take shall come by households; and the
household which the LORD shall take shall come man
by man.
15 And it shall be, that he that is taken with the
accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that
he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant
of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in
Israel.
16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and
brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah
was taken:
22. 17 And he brought the family of Judah; and he took
the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family
of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
18 And he brought his household man by man; and
Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of
Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray
thee, glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make
confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast
done; hide it not from me.
20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I
have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus
and thus have I done:
21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish
garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a
wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted
them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the
earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the
tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver
under it.
23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent,
and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the
children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD.
23. 24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the
son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the
wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and
his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent,
and all that he had: and they brought them unto the
valley of Achor.
25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the
LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned
him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they
had stoned them with stones.
26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones
unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness
of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was
called, The valley of Achor, unto this day. KJV
1Sam 14:38-44 And Saul said, Draw ye near hither,
all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein
this sin hath been this day.
39 For, as the LORD liveth, which saveth Israel,
though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.
But there was not a man among all the people that
answered him.
40 Then said he unto all Israel, Be ye on one side, and
I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And
the people said unto Saul, Do what seemeth good
unto thee.
24. 41 Therefore Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel,
Give a perfect lot. And Saul and Jonathan were taken:
but the people escaped.
42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan
my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast
done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste
a little honey with the end of the rod that was in mine
hand, and, lo, I must die.
44 And Saul answered, God do so and more also: for
thou shalt surely die, Jonathan. KJV
Jonah 1:5-15 Then the mariners were afraid, and
cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the
wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it
of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of
the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him,
What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy
God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we
perish not.
7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let
us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this
evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon
Jonah.
25. 8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for
whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine
occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy
country? and of what people art thou?
9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear
the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the
sea and the dry land.
10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said
unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men
knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD,
because he had told them.
11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto
thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea
wrought, and was tempestuous.
12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me
forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you:
for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon
you.
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to
the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and
was tempestuous against them.
14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We
beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not
perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us
innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it
pleased thee.
26. 15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the
sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. KJV
Acts 1:21-26 Wherefore of these men which have
companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus
went in and out among us,
22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that
same day that he was taken up from us, must one be
ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas,
who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which
knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these
two thou hast chosen,
25 That he may take part of this ministry and
apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell,
that he might go to his own place.
26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon
Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven
apostles. KJV
A Christian’sgames should be games of skill and ability.
Esth 3:8-11
27. 8) And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain
people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people
in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are
diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws:
therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.
9) If it please the king, let it be written that they may be
destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to
the hands of those that have the charge of the business,
to bring it into the king's treasuries.
10) And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it
unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the
Jews' enemy.
11) And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to
thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good
to thee.
From the time that the Medes and the Persians took over, in
Daniel 6, the Jews are alwaysbeing accused of disobeying the
laws of the kings.
Danielwas accused by the other two presidents in Daniel 6:12–
13.
Dan 6:12-13 Then they came near, and spake before
the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not
signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a
petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of
thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The
28. king answered and said, The thing is true, according
to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth
not.
13 Then answered they and said before the king, That
Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of
Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that
thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times
a day. KJV
Accusation is brought against the Jews in Ezra 4:6 and again in
Ezra 4:11–16. When Nehemiahbegins to buildthe wall, the
charge of rebellionis leveled against the Jews of Jerusalem
(Neh. 6:6–7).
They said in Acts 17:7, “These all do contrary to the decrees of
Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.”
When the Jews brought Jesus before Pilate, Luke 23:2 says,
“And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow
perverting the nation, and forbiddingto give tribute to Caesar,
saying that he himself is Christ a King.”
The peoplewho are trying to do something for God in any age
will alwaysbe accused at some point of breaking the law
because they are followinga different King.
verse 8- The word “suffer,”
29. Esth 3:8
8) And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain
people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people
in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are
diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws:
therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.
Suffer- means “to allow”or “to put up with.” The idea, here, is
that since these people are law breakers and disobedientto the
king, that the king should not put up with their foolishness
anymore and, in the context here, should not allow them to
live anymore.
vs. 9
Esth 3:9
9) If it please the king, let it be written that they may be
destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to
the hands of those that have the charge of the business,
to bring it into the king's treasuries.
Haman’s propositionis this: “Pass a law to have these people
destroyed, and I will pay for everything” Haman will “foot the
bill” and pay the money to hire the troops to kill the Jews.
verse 10
Esth 3:10
30. 10) And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it
unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the
Jews' enemy.
The ring of is a signet ring; that is, it is a ring with a symbol on it
peculiarto the user; it acts as his signature. With it, Haman
could pass any law, and it would become permanently binding
under “the laws of the Persiansand the Medes” (Esth. 1:19).
Verse 11
Esth 3:11
11) And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to
thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good
to thee.
Verse 11 is a picture of God the Father giving the Devil
permission to persecute.
Paul said of the unrepentant saint, living in a state of
continuallycommitting gross sin, “To deliver such an one unto
Satan for the destruction of the flesh” (1 Cor. 5:5). It’s
permissive power from God given to Satan.
Jewish childrenhave been told all of their lives that they are
God’s chosen people and the Gentiles aren’t. So they don’t
understand why God allowsthe Russia or the Holocaust.
They aren’t worshipping idolsanymore, so why does God
allow things like that to happen?
31. And ye have not his word abidingin you: FOR WHOM HE HATH
SENT, HIM YE BELIEVE NOT” (John 5:37–38).
When the Jews had Christ crucified, they said, “His blood be on
us, and on our children” (Matt. 27:25).
God is simply giving them what they asked for. They said, “We
have no king but Caesar” (John 19:15).
So, God let the Roman general Titus come in A.D. 70 and
crucify 500 of them along the road to Jerusalem and then raze
the temple to the ground.
He gave them Roman Catholics in the Middle Ages to put
yellow stars on them, crowd them into ghettos, and burn them
in the Inquisition.
He gave them RussianOrthodox (Eastern Catholics), ruled over
by a Czar (Caesar), to harass them with progroms.
He raised up Hitler and the concentration camp commandants
(all of them Roman Catholics) to kill six million of them in the
gas chambers.
Because that’s what they said they wanted, and because they
wouldn’t listen to what the Lord told them about His Son.
God will continue to let the Gentiles oppress the Jews until they
repent of turning His Son over to the Romans to be crucified
(Acts 2) and believe on Him as their Messiah.
A remnant does that in Revelation 7, and they wind up in
Heaven after the Antichrist kills them.
32. A final remnant does that in Zechariah 12 at the Second
Advent, and that’s when God destroys the Gentile nations that
are after them and cleanses the nation of Israel of its sin of
rejecting Christ (Acts 3:19–21).
Acts 3:19-21 Repent ye therefore, and be converted,
that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of
refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was
preached unto you:
21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of
restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by
the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world
began. KJV
Given all of that, what should the Bible-believingChristian’s
attitude be toward the Jews and the nation of Israel?
You can’t be anti-Semitic. Whenever you curse that Jew, you
place yourself under a curse.
Num 24:9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as
a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that
blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. KJV
(Num. 24:9; notice that that verse is about Israel, not
Abraham).
33. God may raise up someone to punishHis people, but don’t let it
be you (Matt. 18:7, Luke 17:1).
Matt 18:7 Woe unto the world because of offences!
for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to
that man by whom the offence cometh! KJV
Luke 17:1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is
impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto
him, through whom they come! KJV
Concerning the Jew, a Christian is to be a “beloved enemy”
(Rom. 11:28).
Rom 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are
enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election,
they are beloved for the fathers' sakes. KJV
Christianshave not replaced the Jews (Rom.11:1).
Rom 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people?
God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of
Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. KJV
Any other viewpointis conceited ignorance (Rom. 11:25).
Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should
be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in
34. your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened
to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
KJV
When it comes to the State of Israel, God only promised a
second return (Isa. 11:11), not a third or fourth. The present
nationof Israel, then, is the fulfillment of that prophecy.
Isa 11:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that
the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to
recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left,
from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and
from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from
Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. KJV
The best thing that the United States could do in regards to
Israel is to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem (as the
Congress voted to do under the Clintonadministration)and to
sign a military alliance with Israel. We might have the whole
world against us, but at least we would have the blessing of
God on our nationonce more (Num. 24:9).
Num 24:9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as
a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that
blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee. KJV
Verse 11
35. Esth 3:11
11) And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given
to thee, the people also, to do with them as it
seemeth good to thee.
Ahasuerus gives Haman a “blank check” to do what he wants,
and the king has no idea aboutwho the people are.
Part2
Esth 3:12-15
12) Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth
day of the first month, and there was written according to
all that Haman had commanded unto the king's
lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every
province, and to the rulers of every people of every
province according to the writing thereof, and to every
people after their language; in the name of king
Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.
13) And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's
provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all
Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in
one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth
month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of
them for a prey.
36. 14) The copy of the writing for a commandment to be
given in every province was published unto all people, that
they should be ready against that day.
15) The posts went out, being hastened by the king's
commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the
palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but
the city Shushan was perplexed.
“The thirteenth day of the first month” (vs. 12)
Esth 3:12
This is the day before Passover.
So, this law to annihilatethe Jews is written the day
before the Jewish holiday commemorating the nation’s
deliverance from Egypt. It is rather ironic no matter which
way you look at it.
From Haman’s point of view, he was signing the Jews’
execution order the day before the nation’s birthday.
From the Lord’s point of view, Haman is going to end up just
like Pharaoh in Exodus 14, and he signs his own death warrant
at the Passover season.
Esth 3:13
37. 13) And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's
provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all
Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in
one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth
month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of
them for a prey.
Now, in verse thirteen you have the decree that was written on
the thirteenth day, and it is a decree to kill all Jews.
verse 13- Notice the word “posts”.
That is where we get post office and postman and parcel
post. The idea of the word is men on horseback carrying
dispatches between fixed stations.
In modern horse racing, the expression is “the horses are
at the post;” i.e., they are at a stationary house to begin
the race.
Because the word is so closely connected with horses and
riders, you get words that relate to such. Like the common
expression “posthaste”. It means to be quick aboutdoing
something, but originallyit was taken from Henry VIII. He
had sent out a rider with a message, and he said, “Post,
haste for thy life.”
Some English words can have several different meanings?
A post isn’t just a pole you stick in the ground. The
scholars are always complainingaboutthe King James
38. Bible being “archaic.” Quite often those “archaic”
meaningsare still used today.
Esth 3:13-14
13) And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's
provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all
Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in
one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth
month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of
them for a prey.
14) The copy of the writing for a commandment to be
given in every province was published unto all people, that
they should be ready against that day.
Verse 13 and 14 containsome great devotional application.
Death is a universal decree against mankind.
“Life is short; death is sure.” Romans 5:12,
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon
all men, for that all have sinned.”
Solomon said, “There is no man that hath power over the
spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the
day of death: and there is no discharge in that war” (Eccl.
8:8).
39. Unless the Rapture takes place, everyone will die; there is
no way to avoidit. Therefore, it behooves every man to
“be ready against that day” (vs. 14).
Esth 3:15
15) The posts went out, being hastened by the king's
commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan
the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to
drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.
That’s a devotionalapplication ofthat verse, you
understand.
It was written to the Gentiles getting ready to kill the Jews.
The day for us is unsure.
John 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not
yet come: but your time is alway ready. KJV
“Are you ready to die”? Have you made preparationsfor
death?
After death, you are going to live somewhere forever.
Have you prepared for it?
40. The Lord called that rich fellow in Luke 12:20 a “fool”
because he had made preparationsfor life on earth, but
he had made none for life after death.
There is a famous story used by preachers to illustratethis
point. A certain king had a court jester who “played the fool”
for him to keep him entertained. The jester played the fool so
well that the king gave him a challenge. He gave the jester a
fool’s “scepter” made of pure gold and sent him to search
throughout the kingdom for anyone who was a bigger fool than
he was. When he found someone, he was to give that person
the scepter and bring him to the palaceto present him to the
king. After several years of searching, the jester returned to the
palace to find the king on his death bed. The sickly king was
cheered to see the jester and asked, “Did you find a bigger fool
than yourself? Were you able to give your ‘scepter’ to anyone?”
The jester hung his head and replied, “No, sire, I was not. I
found no fool bigger than myself.” “Well, no matter,” said the
king, “for I must leave you now anyway to go on a long journey,
and no one will be able to accompanyme on that trip to
entertain me.” “Where are you going?” asked the jester. “I do
not know.” replied the king sadly. “What preparationshave you
made for this journey?” enquired the jester. “None,” said the
king. “Then, sire, I must present you with this golden scepter,
for you are the biggest fool I have ever seen.”
41. Verse 15: “And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the
city Shushan was perplexed.”
The order to kill all of the Jews goes out, and it sets the
whole city to talking and wondering what was going on.
o There were those who had no idea of what was going
on. No Jew had ever done them any harm, and their
philosophywas “live and let live.” But they were in
no position to say anything. Besides, it wasn’t their
neck on the chopping block.
o I am sure there were some who completely agreed
with Haman. A Jew had probablybeaten them out of
a job or business deal, and they were out for blood.
o Then there was a small group who knew what was
about to happenwas wrong, and they began to make
plans to hide the Jews and protect them.
That’s the way it was in Germany during the Holocaust.
Not every German was a Jew-hating Nazi.
There were a number of Germans who saved Jews from
the concentrationcamps. The Yad Vashem, the Holocaust organization in
Israel, recognizes 19,700 “righteous Gentiles” responsible
for rescuing Jews (figure taken from the organization’s
website).
But most Germans, though they had nothing against any
Jew, were scared of doing anything lest they be shipped
off to prison camps of their own.
42. Meanwhile,Haman and Ahasuerus are sitting around drinking
and having a good time;Haman is gloating on the upcoming
genocide of the Jews.
Doctrinally speaking, this passage points propheticallyto
the upcoming genocide which Satan and the Antichrist
will attempt to carry out against the Jews (Rev. 12).
During the Tribulation, the Jewish populationof the world will
be reduced to a tenth or less of its present number (Isa. 6:10–
13).
Isa 6:10-13 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and
make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they
see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and
understand with their heart, and convert, and be
healed.
11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered,
Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the
houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate,
12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and
there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.
13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return,
and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak,
whose substance is in them, when they cast their
leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance
thereof.
