Hagar Act II
1. Hagar part2
Gen 21:9-21
9) And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian,
which she had born unto Abraham,
mocking.
10) Wherefore she said unto Abraham,
Cast out this bondwoman and her son:
for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with
my son,
even with Isaac.
11) And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight
because of his son.
12) And God said unto Abraham,
Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad,
and because of thy bondwoman;
in all that Sarah hath said unto thee,
hearken unto her voice;
2. for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
13) And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make
a nation,
because he is thy seed.
14) And Abraham rose up early in the morning,
and took bread,
and a bottle of water,
and gave it unto Hagar,
putting it on her shoulder,
and the child,
and sent her away:
and she departed,
and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
15) And the water was spent in the bottle,
and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.
16) And she went,
and sat her down over against him a good way off,
as it were a bowshot:
3. for she said,
Let me not see the death of the child.
And she sat over against him,
and lift up her voice,
and wept.
17) And God heard the voice of the lad;
and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven,
and said unto her,
What aileth thee, Hagar?
fear not;
for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.
18) Arise,
lift up the lad,
and hold him in thine hand;
for I will make him a great nation.
19) And God opened her eyes,
and she saw a well of water;
and she went,
and filled the bottle with water,
4. and gave the lad drink.
20) And God was with the lad;
and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness,
and became an archer.
21) And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran:
and his mother took him a wife out of the land of
Egypt.
Gen 21:9
9) And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which
she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
He either learned this from his Mother doing it in
private,
or it was just the foolishness that is bound in a child;
Either way it appears jealousy has reared it’s ugly head.
(like it did with his Mom 16:4)
Gen 16:4
4) And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and
when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress
was despised in her eyes.
5. Prov 30:21
21) For three things the earth is disquieted, and for
four which it cannot bear:
Prov 30:23
23) For an odious woman when she is married; and an
handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
1Cor 13:4-5
4) Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth
not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
5) Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her
own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Ps 22:6
6) But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men,
and despised of the people.
Prov 20:11
11) Even a child is known by his doings, whether his
work be pure, and whether it be right.
Gal 4:29
6. 29) But as then he that was born after the flesh
persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so
it is now.
Gen 21:10
10) Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this
bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman
shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
Gen 16:2
2) And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD
hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in
unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children
by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
If only she had been so firm in her faith 5 chapters
earlier.
Originally, she was not only going to help God out by
the “Hagar affair”
but was planning on “children”.
Sarai intended to perpetuate this.
Gen 16:2
2) And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the
LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray
thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may
7. obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened
to the voice of Sarai.
Gen 21:11
11) And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight
because of his son.
What a tangled web we weave when we plan to help
God out.
Abraham obeyed Sarai in the “Hagar affair” with out
asking God.
Now a price is paid but not as high a price as David paid.
Isa 46:10
10) Declaring the end from the beginning, and from
ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying,
My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
Gen 17:19
19) And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son
indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will
establish my covenant with him for an everlasting
covenant, and with his seed after him.
Gen 17:21
8. 21) But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which
Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next
year.
Gen 16:15
15) And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called
his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
Gen 16:10
10) And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I
will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall
not be numbered for multitude.
Gen 12:1-2
1) Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee
out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and
from thy father's house, unto a land that I will
shew thee:
2) And I will make of thee a great nation, and I
will bless thee, and make thy name great; and
thou shalt be a blessing:
Rom 4:19
19) And being not weak in faith, he considered not his
own body now dead, when he was about an hundred
years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:
9. Gen 21:12
12) And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous
in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy
bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken
unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
God gives Abraham a tough command.
“Let it not be grievous in thy sight…”
He can’t ignore it,
he can’t change it,
but God said
change your point of view (“sight”).
The only way to change your view-point is
“get more Bible”.
Lev 10:6
6) And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and
unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads,
neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath
come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the
whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the
LORD hath kindled.
Gen 21:13
10. 13) And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a
nation, because he is thy seed.
Now Abraham can rest easy
knowing God is taking over the situation
and promised Ishmael will have a large family.
Gen 21:14
14) And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took
bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar,
putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her
away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness
of Beersheba.
Abraham is a great man, but I doubt he felt like it. He
has seen:
Lot go and
now Ishmael is going,
soon he will be required to “offer” Isaac,
followed by Keturah and her children, all being taken
away.
…and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.
Gal 4:23-24
23) But he who was of the bondwoman was born after
the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
11. 24) Which things are an allegory: for these are the two
covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which
gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
Jezebel vows to kill Elijah. “And when he saw that” (1Ki
19:3) & He beat a cowardly retreat to Beersheba, where
he left his servant, and continued on into the wilderness
to crawl under a juniper tree where he requested that he
might die.
1Kgs 19:3-4
3) And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his
life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to
Judah, and left his servant there.
4) But he himself went a day's journey into the
wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper
tree: and he requested for himself that he might
die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away
my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
Part 2
Gen 21:15-16
15) And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast
the child under one of the shrubs.
12. We would have reversed this; she keeps the bottle and
cast the child
16) And she went, and sat her down over against him a
good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me
not see the death of the child. And she sat over against
him, and lift up her voice, and wept.
Ps 63:1
1) A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness
of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek
thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for
thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
Isa 49:15
15) Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she
should not have compassion on the son of her
womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget
thee.
Gen 21:17
17) And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of
God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her,
What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the
voice of the lad where he is.
13. Exod 3:7
7) And the LORD said, I have surely seen the
affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have
heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I
know their sorrows;
Exod 22:21-23
21) Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress
him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
22) Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
23) If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at
all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;
…fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad
where he is…
Two-fold effort a praying mother and a praying son.
Freewill is essential for deliverance.
Gen 21:18
18) Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I
will make him a great nation.
Gen 21:13
13) And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make

have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will
multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he
beget, and I will make him a great nation.
She already has God’s word on the outcome of her
child’s life. Why did she think he was going to die?
Gen 21:19
19) And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of
water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and
gave the lad drink.
Num 22:31

he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way,
and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down
his head, and fell flat on his face.
15. 2Kgs 6:17-20
17) And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee,
open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD
opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and,
behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots
of fire round about Elisha.
18) And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed
unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray
thee, with blindness. And he smote them with
blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19) And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way,
neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you
to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to
Samaria.
20) And it came to pass, when they were come into
Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of
these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened
their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the
midst of Samaria.
Isa 35:6
6) Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the
tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall

raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth
the righteous:
Ps 13:3
3) Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten
mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
…filled the bottle with water…
Good thing she keep the bottle even though it was
empty.
Luke 2:49-51
49) And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought
me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's
business?
50) And they understood not the saying which he

Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother
kept all these sayings in her heart.
17. Luke 2:16-19
16) And they came with haste, and found Mary, and
Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17) And when they had seen it, they made known
abroad the saying which was told them concerning
this child.

them in her heart.

the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of
men.

brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream
more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the
eleven stars made obeisance to me.
10) And he told it to his father, and to his brethren:
and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What
is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy
18. mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down
ourselves to thee to the earth?
11) And his brethren envied him; but his father
observed the saying.
Heb 2:1-3
1) Therefore we ought to give the more earnest
heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any
time we should let them slip.
2) For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and
every transgression and disobedience received a just
recompence of reward;
3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great
salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the
Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard
him;
Gen 21:20-21
20) And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in
the wilderness, and became an archer.
