Church Hours Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a
Monday through Friday lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the
same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

for a Living Bible Study, 6:30-7:20 pm
When the Story of Christmas first Reached Rome
--A New Study from the Gospel of Luke
Experience the Bible and the early church as it comes alive as we recreate the home of Priscilla and Aquila
in Rome. The first church in Rome met regularly in their home as early as 34 AD. However, in 49 AD the church
was disbanded as Christians and Jews were driven out of their homes and forced into exile by the Roman Emperor.
Priscilla and Aquila were not able to returned to their home in Rome until 54 AD, but when they did they were
instrumental in re-establishing the church. This Christian husband and wife team taught many young pastors for
service in the early church, but they had never heard the Christmas Story.
The staging area in our fellowship will be transformed into a replica of a Roman house. Costumes,
candlelight, and dramatic narrative will take you back to life as it was in the early church.
The Gospel of Luke didn’t arrive in Rome until 64-65 AD. When it did there was a new understanding of
the Message that Jesus brought to the world.
Not ready for Christmas yet? Neither were They!
Join us to see what really happened. Oh, don’t forget to bring your Bibles.
Morningside Fridays
Every Friday morning at 10:30, a small group of women from Westhampton Baptist Church have been
meeting with residents from Morningside Assisted Living Center for Bible study. From a very simple beginning
the program has grown into a true “Friendship Community.”
At the Church Council meeting, Monday, September 24, 2012 the program was formally adopted as a
ministry of the church. WBC women have become friends with residents, sharing their faith, their concerns for
their families, and for the other residents at Morningside. Many of these residents seldom see a friend. If you
would be interested in being a part of a “Friendship Community” join us on any Friday at:
Morningside in the West End
3000 Skipwith Road
Richmond, Virginia or call us at 282-4243
Breakfast Anyone?
In an effort to keep our congregation informed, the Pastor Search Committee will be holding a “town hall”
gathering over breakfast on Sunday, October 28th. In lieu of Sunday school on this date, we will gather in the
Fellowship Hall for breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and after breakfast the search team will use this time to update you on
our work and answer any questions that you may have. It is important that you make every attempt to be in
attendance as it is our desire that the membership be informed of our progress and the results of our time with our
VBMB consultant will be shared at this time. We ask that you continue to pray for God’s will in the life of WBC.

your Board of Deacons to serve with Sandi Bassett, Susan Butler, Botsey Johnson, Belinda Lane, Mary Ann
Johnson, Bruce Shepperson, Bob Turner, Monica White and Al Wright during the new church year. These
are your deacons for the coming year, and each one of them is committed to the moral, spiritual and temporal
welfare of Westhampton Baptist Church. Please get to know each one of them, and if you have a need, do not
hesitate to call upon any of them.
We have many challenges as we face the new church year. But there is no challenge that we can not
master if we put our trust in the Lord. Psalm 34:19 tells us: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the
Lord delivereth him out of them all.” Please join your Deacon Board in support of Westhampton Baptist
Church during the new church year.

Community Yard Sale
Been thinking of holding a yard sale to get rid of that excess clutter? WBC will be sponsoring a community
yard sale on Saturday, November 3rd from 8-12:00. We will be asking for a donation of $10.00 per table and
the event is open to anyone who would like to rent a space. If you have items that you’d like to part with but
not enough to warrant getting a whole table, we’ll have a table designated for that use and the proceeds of the
items sold will go to the church. Please contact Johnny if you’d like to donate an item(s) to sell or to rent a
table.
4. Note: For Deacons, Members of the Pastor Search Committee, the Steering Committee,
and interested Church Members

“Facts, Social Trends, and Demographics of the Richmond Area”. John grew up in Westhampton Baptist
Church. He is the son of Jane and Berkeley Martin and now consults with Fortune 500 companies across North
America helping them develop strategies to serve a changing society. His presentation will help us prepare for
the coming 3-5 years and help us shape a vision for the future of Westhampton Baptist Church.
