DOMESTIC   VIOLENCE   Ø Domes<c  violence  is  controlling   behaviour  and  includes  all  kinds  of  physical,   sexual,  economic,  psychological  and   emo<onal  abuse  within  all  kinds  of  in<mate   rela<onships.       Ø The  perpetrators  of  domes<c  violence  or   abuse  are  usually  men  and  the  vic<ms  or   survivors  are  usually  women  and  children   that  they  know.

Health  Impact   •  Women exposed to Domestic Violence Are: •  Mental Health: Twice as likely to experience depression •  Sexual and Reproductive Health: 16% more likely to have low birth weight baby •  15 times more likely to acquire HIV and 1.5 times more likely to contract STI/ STD •  Death and Injury: 42% women experiencing physical or sexual abuse experience injuries as a result •  38% of women murdered globally were committed by their husbands/ partners
