U.S. Army and Con-way Truckload Partner in Recruiting

Program

Ceremony at Con-way Truckload Aug. 29

JOPLIN, Mo. - August 29, 2012

Representatives of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command and Con-way Truckload, a full truckload
carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE:CNW), will sign an agreement Wednesday, Aug.
29 at 10 a.m. CDT to provide priority hiring status to qualified soldiers participating in the
Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program. The ceremony will take place at Con-way
Truckload’s headquarters at 4701 E. 32nd St. in Joplin.

PaYS is a partnership between the Army and a cross-section of U.S. corporations and public sector
agencies. It was developed to help the Army attract, train and conway tracking deploy talented
people who want to serve their country and secure future success once their Army service is
complete.

“The U.S. Army is excited to have Con-way Truckload as a partner in the Army PaYS program,”
said Lt. Col. Vernon Jakoby, commander of the U.S. Army’s Kansas City Recruiting Battalion.
“This is clearly a win-win for both organizations. Con-way will gain employees who have
developed professional work habits and who have been held to the highest standards, while our
soldiers gain the opportunity to enter into another great organization where they can add value.”

Under terms of the agreement between the Army and Con-way Truckload, enlistees interested in
gaining specific job training and qualifications will receive that training during their military
service. Upon completion of their military service, soldiers who expressed an interest in working
for Con-way Truckload will receive a job interview if openings exist in their field of interest.

“It’s a privilege and an honor for Con-way Truckload to have over 650 veterans as part of our
team,” said Saul Gonzalez, chief operating officer, Con-way Truckload. “We look forward to
adding to that number with this partnership.”
