  here?
During this presentation we will
 give you some information about
 SCVS and the course, and
 answer any questions that you
 may have.

Please hold questions until
           the end. :)
Communication:
It is very important that students and
parents keep an open line of
communication with their instructors.
Please make sure that you check your
e-mail on a regular basis. If you call
your instructor and get his/her
voicemail, please don’t hang up.
Virtual School Expectations:
Students are expected to:
1. Check their Virtual School Email DAILY for
   important information and updates from
their teachers. Note any important dates or
information and communicate it to parents.
2. Work on their lessons INDEPENDENTLY
during their Scheduled Virtual course time.
3. Stay on pace and finish assignments
    outside of class if necessary.

                                                 5
The Role of the teacher in Virtual School
Your teacher is to help you:
* Understand the content AFTER you have reviewed
   the information thoroughly, taken notes,
completed all of the practice activities, studied,
and made an attempt at submitting the
assessments. THEN, if you still have questions
you will schedule a tutoring appointment with your
   teachers for additional help.
* Stay on pace and complete the course in the
    required time frame.
* Communicate the student’s progress to the
   Student, Parents, Guidance counselor, and
   administration (if necessary).

                                                        6
Communication:
If you need to contact your instructor you can:
1. CALL or TEXT their contact phone number:
Make sure you leave your first and last name, course
you are calling about, the best phone number to
reach you, and a brief message. Your instructor
will return your call as quickly as possible. Your
instructor will return your calls and reply to e-mails
  within 24 hours Monday-Friday.
2. EMAIL your teacher through EITHER your Virtual
School Dashboard (for general questions) OR
through your course (for questions about the
    CONTENT of your course)
3. SCHEDULE an appointment for tutoring, monthly
calls, and Discussion Based Exam (DBAs)
28 Day Grace Period:
After you are activated into the
  course you should get started
immediately. The first 28 days are
  considered a “test drive”. This
  enables the student/parent to make
sure this is the right learning
  environment for the student.
During the grace period - It is very
important that the student stay on or
ahead of pace and that they have a
passing grade in the course. We want
to make sure that the students are
 learning, succeeding, and enjoying
 this academic environment.
Please print the pace chart for each course you

are taking. These can be found in the “course

   information” tab in each course.
Students that are not making sufficient
  progress during the grace period
may be withdrawn with no grade
  and placed in another course.
Please contact your instructor with any
  questions, concerns, or problems
that you have during your grace
  period
Students should be submitting work on
a weekly basis. If you are unable to
submit work for any reason (vacation,
  illness, family matter, etc.) please
contact your instructor so they are
  aware of the situation
The traditional pace is set up to
 finish each segment in 16
 weeks. The accelerated pace is
set up to finish each segment in
 8 weeks.
Monthly Calls:
Each month, the student and
parent must complete a monthly
call with their instructor for each
course they are taking.
During this call we will discuss the
student’s success in the course. The
instructor will go over the student’s
 grade, pace, and progress. Please
 discuss any concerns or questions
you may have with your instructor.
Academic Integrity Policy:

Academic Integrity means...

*Your work on each assignment will be
  completely your own

 *Your collaboration with another classmate
on any assignment will be pre-approved by
  your instructor
*You will not practice plagiarism in any form

*You will not allow others to copy your work

*You will not misuse content from the Internet

Please read the detailed Academic Integrity
Policy under the course information tab
Discussion Based Assessments
  (DBA)/Oral Exams:
These assessments are done with
  your instructor on the phone.
  Please make an appointment,
  call, or e-mail your instructor
when you get to this type of
  assessment. They are
  REQUIRED and must be
  completed BEFORE taking the
  module exam.
During the DBA:
Your instructor will talk with you
 about the content that you
 learned in the module. Please
 make sure that you have
 completed all the assignments in
 the module before doing this
 assessment.
It is the student’s responsibility to
    contact their instructor when they
are ready to complete this type of
    assessment 

The student should NOT move on to
the next module until the DBA has
  been successfully completed
  (unless instructed by the teacher)
