The world is changing in a event driven world Event driven architecture is not a new technology. IBM MQ is already 25 years old. The popularity is increasing, because it is a robust, decoupled way to exchange data. Today there are new popular 'new kids on the block'. Kafka is one of them and gets lots of attention also in the enterprise. The principle however are still the same, called Pub Sub principle. HCL will add to the App Dev pack the possibility to consume and produce to a broker/stream. There are frameworks who helps you to focus on the business logic. In this session I will explain this principle and show you that is not that difficult to make use of it. Connect your existing code to a service bus or queue, producing and consuming.

Today almost every product has an API, to integrate in other products or to made the data available to the outside world. Most API’s are using traditional patterns and technology. With the rise of Angular, React and other modern frameworks there is a need for non blocking API’s. Meet Reactive streams, like Spring Webflux, to super charge your API. In this session I will tell about and show you Reactive API’s and more

Times Square is the most visited place globally with about 380,000 pedestrian visitors a day - roughly the same amount of people which go to Wix’s dashboard. Building a page which receives such high traffic requires having great performance and intelligent architecture. In this talk, Eyal will go over the challenges of rebuilding Wix’s dashboard, the architecture and how we got it to load under 1 second.

There are many resources out there that walk you through the process of setting up distributed systems, queuing and asynchronous processes — with and without NServiceBus. Despite all the online education, teams continue to make the same common mistakes when designing and implementing microservices architecture. While the mistakes can have devastating consequences, they are easy to avoid when approached intentionally. Jeffrey Palermo and Justin Self share their experiences in overcoming common microservices pitfalls and show how NServiceBus naturally encourages better architecture, such as easy adherence to SOLID principles. Learn: * What a microservice really is (and is not) * What mistakes teams commonly make * How to avoid the pitfalls and design more robust and scalable architecture * How to equip your team for a microservices architecture

The WP REST API infrastructure was introduced in WordPress 4.4. The introduction of this infrastructure allows WordPress developers to now use WordPress as a headless CMS. A headless CMS has its frontend component (the head) stripped and removed from its backend, and what remains is a backend delivering content via an API. Some common use cases for headless CMS are as follows: Serving data to other web applications Mobile Apps Websites and web apps built with MVC-style JavaScript frameworks Developers can install the WP REST API plugin to expose endpoints for WordPress for posts, pages, media and users. Developers can also extend the WordPress core REST infrastructure to register their own endpoints for custom post types and WordPress options. The WP REST API plugin will expose database content via JSON. This data can be used by developers to create sites using JavaScript frameworks such as React and also use the JSON data in mobile apps. Bronson will explain and demonstrate how you can use WordPress and the WP REST API to create a website that uses React on the frontend and WordPress on the backend as a headless CMS.

As SeatGeek's traffic continues to grow, so too has its infrastructure needs. Recent expansion of the operations team has allowed us to replace our existing service discovery solution with Consul, improving our ability to scale and manage an elastic cloud environment. At the same time,we saw this opportunity to migrate from EC2 Classic to VPC and take advantage of AWS's latest offerings. In this talk, we will discuss Consul, the problems it has solved, and adoption issues that surfaced along the way. In addition, we will also highlight our experiences with VPC, including setup, routing, access control, and migration with the extremely useful EC2 ClassicLink. Progressive web apps combine the best of the web with the best of native mobile apps. These apps create increasingly more informed experiences, the more the user interacts with the app, without the need to download a native app. Progressive web apps include features like app store free installation, connectivity independent experiences, push notifications, background synching, additional security and performance gains. In this session we’ll dive into the technologies behind these next-gen web features and learn how they’re driving the evolution of the web.
