Repetition, Variety, and Gestalt INSTRUCTIONS de Beaufort
1. DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS de Beaufort
ASSIGNMENT: Repetition, Variety, Gestalt
In this assignment you must chose a simple shape or object as the building block
of your project and construct the image using nothing but this shape. In order to
avoid bland repetition, you are allowed to change the shape in terms of size and
color to allow for variety.
The easiest way to duplicate a shape is to press down on (option) and then drag
the pointer across the shape to reproduce it in a whole new layer. Please keep
track of your layers and merge when possible.
Additionally, using this shape and its variations, you must construct a whole new
image using gestalt principles of closure, similarity, proximity, and continuation.
The easiest way to do this is to find an existing image to place beneath your
shape layers while aligning them, and then hide this layer when everything is
lined up. So for the above example, the student placed raindrops over an image
of an umbrella, and then hide the umbrella layer before flattening the image and
handing it in as a jpg.
