3. Project Overview
In this section you will outline the aim of the project/task and give an
overview of the activates you undertook to complete it.
4. What was the theme of your project and
what attracted you to it?
• The theme of my project was gaming. I find Gaming an interesting topic because there are many
varied opinions on the subject. A lot of people may find gaming to be a bad influence, and some
may think it’s a good influence which is why I decided to do an interview on gaming, It’s good to
find out how someone else feels about it.
• One thing that attracted me to it would be that it’s a very controversial subject, Like I said before
people either like it or hate it and there’s many factors that contribute to why people either like
or hate it.
• Another thing that attracted me to it would be that It gave me an opportunity to work with my
strong point of knowledge. I have been learning about the gaming world for years and I just find it
a great topic to talk about personally. There's many different aspects of gaming that makes it
great.
• One other thing that attracted me to it would be that It gave me the idea of my interview being
animated. People find it entertaining when people animate gaming and I wanted to make my
interview funny which is when the idea sprung to mind.
5. What research did you undertake and how
did it help develop your project?
• Firstly I did some intricate research on the different types of
animation and what style would be best for my interview then I
conducted research on the different types of animated interviews and
how they will help the production of my project.
• With this kind of research it gives me a better idea on how to
construct my interview and I even tried to experiment with types of
questions to ask for the best kind of answer.
• I made sure my research is entirely related and has the proper
knowledge in order to better my skills.
6. How did you develop and improve your ideas
throughout the project?
• I tried different approaches into animating my interview and even
looked at different examples from other animators.
• The different animators showed different styles of animation and also
the different techniques that each animator incorporated into their
animation.
• I also tried experimenting with my own style and improve my drawing
skills, my goal had been to improve my skills enough to beat my fmp
last year and this was the perfect opportunity to prepare.
7. What was the outcome of the project/task?
• The outcome of all the developments lead me to my game interview.
• My gaming interview seemed like the best option for my form of
creativity and even links to my strong points, ie gaming. I felt like with
the animation plus the chaotic gaming would create the best source
of entertainment.
• I was very tempted to do an animated podcast but the only issue I
had with the idea is that I struggle to uphold conversations and
talking more than 1 on 1 is also a struggle. It’s hard to co ordinate
when people talk about their different opinions.
8. Personal Response
This section will explore your thoughts and feelings about the
experience. This will help gain a understand of how your personal
feelings may have impacted the final outcome.
9. How did you feel about the project before
you started?
• I was really excited to do the project when I heard about it, and I already had a few ideas to start
with. I feel like the projects this year are much better compared to last years projects, I feel like I
get more freedom to do what I want. I was also quite nervous about the project as well because I
was afraid of having a bad idea or it not working out how I want.
• I think I was more confident about this project than a lot of my other ones because the ideas I had
for this project were mainly based off things I know and can work with. I also think that with the
ideas I had I felt like I could conduct a lot more research and have a bigger general idea to work
with.
• I was a little scared about this project because I am still struggling with my time management,
better than last year but still not great in my opinion. I really felt like I needed to prepare myself
more for the project so I could keep on top of organization and time.
10. What do you think about your project development and
how did it help you to refine your idea?
• I feel like I did well with my Idea development and that I covered a lot of factors to contribute to
my project. I made sure that my research tied in with my idea development and especially made
sure that my Idea was refined using It. I tried to cover how that my general Idea would help my
product then giving some analysis based on my product and some examples that I can reference
my idea to.
• Another thing with my project development that I believed refined my idea would be that I could
analyze the different types of animation as well as looking at how animators animate interviews.
It gave me insight about how I should construct my animation and how types of questions effect
the outcome.
• One other thing that I believed helped would be when analyzing how people animated
interviews, I noticed that some animators use less framed but more detail and it’s to practice
mouth movement which is something I’ve been wanting to refine in my animation.
11. Did you collaborate on your project or engage
contributors, etc.?
• I collaborated with my friend who let me interview her. She also
helped me with the idea of playing games while doing the interview.
• She also gave me reference ideas on how she wanted her character,
and she gave a massive contribution to my project.
• Other than my friend I had no other collaborators.
12. How did you feel when the project was
completed and why?
• I was honestly relieved that the project was completed. It has caused
me so much stress and pressure after losing half of my work and it
was very hard to complete on time and it was more frustrating
handing in things late.
• I also felt quite sad about it as well because it was still fun in ways and
I especially liked interviewing my friend, I feel like it gave me a
confidence boost in my social skills.
13. Evaluating the project
In the previous sections, you have been commenting upon the project development. The
evaluation may include some similar information but it will also include critical comment.
An evaluation must include information about the good and bad points of the project and it
is important to be honest. Finally, you should make a judgment about the effectiveness of
the success of the project
14. What were the good points about the project/task and what did you
learn from them? [try and think of at least 3, more if possible]
• The good points about my project would probably be the questions that
actually made it into the project. They were the inly ones I was happy with
and could be even called animation. After losing a lost of my work it
became harder and harder to get all 10 questions the way I wanted and in
the end I scrapped the hard ones and tried to input more detail into the
ones I did and also make them longer to make up for lost time.
• Another good point would probably be the skills I learn along the way
while animating and the amazing help from my siblings in the end. They
taught me that there are much easier ways to animate without using
photoshop and I think I might use a different software for future use.
• Lastly a good point would probably be how well the footage turned out and
the amount of depth I got from the interview with my friend
15. What challenges did you face and how did you
respond to them? Try and think of at least 3...
• One big challenge I faced was the memory wipe that took out half my
work. I had to salvage and scrap my work at the same time and think
of ways to fix my animation before the deadline.
• Another big challenge was incorporating more detail into my
animation with the small time I had left to fix my animation. This was
because I had to make up for lost work and create something shorter
but better.
• Lastly would probably be using photoshop. I now realise that
photoshop is much harder to use than the other software me and my
sibling used in the end and that photoshop cs5 should just not exist, it
has way to many bugs and exploits.
16. What were the negative points about the
experience, and what could you have done to
improve them?
• Negative points would be:
• Using photoshop, honestly made everything a lot harder and made my
animation choppy. To improve I’m going to use pro create and ibis paint
instead, it’s accessible both on phone and pc and gives animators so much
help
• Losing work to a wipe, even though the work was saved on one computer
it didn’t transfer to the other computer and therefore was lost. To improve
I’m going to back things up on a memory stick at all times.
• Time, I think that this project should have had more production weeks
especially as some types of projects take longer to make than others
depending on the type you do.
17. How would you rate the final piece? [think along the lines of
poor, satisfactory, good or excellent...justify your rating]
• In my complete honest opinion I would rate my project between poor
and satisfactory. This is only because of the fact I lost so much work
but in the end it turned out okay and it helped I switched
programmes in the end. I really wish thay my work hadn’t been lost
but it also made me realise that my skills would be pit to use better
on pro create and I could probably produce something better for next
time.
• It has been hard doing this project and it’s annoying this isn’t the first
time my work has been lost because it sets me back on my grades.
From now on everything will be backed up and I’m going to work
even harder on my animating skills so I can create in a shorter time
frame.
18. What is your opinion of your final piece? What
elements do you think are successful and why?
I’m not happy with it but some parts I am happy with it. I feel like the
overall footage was better than my animation mostly because I had to
cut out a lot of audio detail in order to get visual detail. I think thay the
parts me and my sibling worked on using pro create turned out 100
percent better than I thought and it saved so much time and honestly
gave me a laugh. I think that part has made my project more successful
as its elevated my work onna different level.
19. How well did your project apply the characteristics
and conventions of the medium you worked in?
• I think it worked out pretty well I tried to keep things as relative as
possible and also keep it focused around the audience I’m aiming for
and I tried my best to just keep the overall humor of this project.
• I kept animating as best as I could so all parts thay I’ve included tie in
together and time together. It might not be the best but it’s the best I
can do and I think that it’s pretty good.
20. How did you design appeal to your target
audience?
• My audience is for people who love animation, gaming and
entertainment which Is a wide variety of people. I kept as much
humor in as I can while staying on track of the interview and I also
kept in the gaming aspect that brings out the chaos. These are some
of the things I think thay the target audience would be drawn to and
it also gives people a chance to loom at my animation and drawing
improvements from last year.
21. Analysis
In this section, you will focus on the details of the project and make
sense of what happened in the project. You should demonstrate how
your decisions informed the project development and the success of the
outcome.
22. In what ways was the overall project a
success?
• I think that it’s a success because in the end it was still completed and
it still has length to it. I was afraid it would only be two minutes long
but it’s ended up longer than I thought. Although I had to cut out so
much I feel like it gave me an opportunity to find ways to improve
under pressure which I feel like I did which is another success to me,
finding different softwares and drawing techniques really made a
difference for me and even though my animation might not be
consistent anymore, some people like changes in animation, it’s
almost like giving people a taste of a completely different style.
23. What elements did not go well and why?
• Half of my work went missing during production therefore I had to
sacrifice more of my animation in order to be done almost on time for
evaluation.
• I think one thing that did not go well would probably be working on
two different formats of Ps. It has been very hard transferring all the
work over and refining it on time.
24. How did your skills develop during the portfolio? [remember,
skills aren't just technical, remember things like organization,
time management, communication, etc. as well]
(Don’t remember needing to do a portfolio for animation) will talk to
dave.
25. What meaning and messages did you want to
convey and were you successful?
• My main message was for people to have fun in whatever they do,
even an interview can be fun with the right people and still give off
critical and valid answers.
• I believe that I was successful in conveying the message as people
found my interview entertaining and educational.
26. What feedback did you get from your peers
and viewings?
• The feedback I’ve had to far has been very positive and supportive.
People were upset thay the couldn’t see what more I had to offer but
they were still amused by the animation I still had left to give. People
really seemed to laugh at it so I felt like it was good.
27. What would you do differently in the future
and why?
• Id probably make a shorter animation but with more detail and to me
it seems a little harder the longer they are, especially with the
production time I had to do it.
• I’d also maybe find a better style to work with as well therefore
keeping my drawings more consistent as well, making more sense of
the animation.
28. What knowledge have you gained that would help you in the
future to improve your project? Also, what knowledge from
academic literature and professionals has helped and why?
• I have gained the knowledge to never use photoshop for animation
again, I have been shown the different softwares that can really open
up my door of creativity and In the future I should be able to produce
much better animation and in a shower period of time which is better
for me because I still have issues with time management.
• I also learned while using certain softwares that there are many ways
to organise my layers and work so nothing will go missing or get
jumbled up in the wrong section.
29. Action Plan
This section will identify what you would do differently in the future and
identify ways you could develop.
30. If you were making a similar project in the
future, what would you do differently?
• Id give myself more time to back up my work and organize it properly
because I do not want to lose work again.
• I’d also probably just try and improve on my drawing skills; I think that
is something I can always evolve and make better.
• I think another thing that I’d do would be to record on a different
device so that there's no hassle moving the audio onto the pc.
31. How could you develop your skills for future projects? Please
identify the appropriate resources and courses. For example,
webpages, tutorials, books, short courses and qualifications.
• Pro create is greater to help my editing skills when finishing and touching
up my animations
• Fire alpaca and krita are much better options for animationnas they
provide all the resources to better develop how you want to animate and
also gives a much wider variety of brushes and palletes to work with.
• Ibis paint is for on the go so I now have even more time to animate and I
can do it where I want and it’s equipped with some of the best drawing
tools and tips to help better drawing skills.
• There are also different Web pages that you can look at other people’s
tutorials and other people’s work and you can even post your own and
have people send you feedback right away so you can get those critical
points that could massively improve your work.
32. What personal attributes could you develop to
ensure you are working at a professional level?
• Adapt and learn in order to have a wider and more professional
vocabulary when writing.
• Adapt to different softwares therefore when working for different
people you already have the skills to work on whay they use and
make a good impression.
• Constantly learning on the go even if you become good at what you
do just shows the best level of optimism.
