2. Introduction to xG Technology
► Leading player in cognitive radio network technology – enabling more
efficient use of scarce and/or expensive wireless spectrum
– continuing rapid growth of wireless data consumption creating „spectrum crisis‟
► Positive third party product validation
► Exceptional in-house R&D and product delivery team and extensive patent
portfolio (over 60 US and 140 international patents and patent filings)
► Significant near-term opportunities within existing core vertical markets
► Developer of xMax an all IP mobile broadband solution for real-time voice &
video, broadband data, and SMS (LTE is data only with limited voice)
A drive test I conducted of the xG xMax network in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (all while watching the spectrum in
real-time on a spectrum analyzer) showed that when the mobile unit drives into an area with existing
interference, the xMax network automatically changes to a different channel to avoid the interference. This
change occurred fast enough that not a single syllable of speech was missed.”

4. Cognitive Radio Overview
► Cognitive (smart) radios are able to identify spectrum (i.e. radio
frequencies) that is not being used, and to quickly tune to those frequencies
to transmit and/or receive signals.
► Have the ability to instantly find other spectrum if interference is detected
on the frequencies being used.
► Can adapt their own power output, modulation, channel plan, network
protocol, etc.. dynamically to maximize throughput (or range) and minimize
interference.
Cognitive radios dynamically optimize spectrum utilization through
opportunistic use of all available resources

11. xMax Cognitive Technology
xMax Layered Cognitive Approach:
– Spectrum sensing: Interference based detection of transmitters.
– Spatial processing: MIMO technologies allow resistance to interferers.
Optimize SNR using multiple antenna processing.
– Spectrum sharing: Able to operate in crowed shared spectrum (ISM
UNI II etc.). Detect interferers, mitigate them, or avoid them by changing
operating parameters or frequencies.
– Spectrum management: Capture the most available spectrum.
Terminals and Base Station can change operating frequencies
dynamically.
– Spectrum mobility: Use spectrum dynamically. Mobile user stations
and base stations can decide to change bands where they operate.
