In observance of October as Domestic Violence Awareness month, Oon Saturday,
October 1, 2011, Dress for Success Memphis hosted an onsite domestic violence
session, at its office on Domestic Violence. I, in whichattendance were 15 Comment [CC2]: or workshop?

expert speaker was scheduled to attend but cancelled the day before the event.
A Verizon Wireless Representative was informed of the event but was not able to

The 2012 session will include an expert panel be more focus on involving and
involve more community partners and having an expert panel who will bring
awareness to the issue, besides the open forum. Also from this year experience
we may need to have two sessions, one for individuals to speak about their
experience and another for the entire community/referral partners to bring
awareness to the issue.
Although our session this year was a small in number gathering, it reached
touched our community in a major way. To further align with our goal of
increaseincreasing the awareness about dDomestic vViolence, Dress for Success
Memphis collected gently used cell phones at two of our fundraisers (The Little
Black Dress Event & Upscale Garage Sale) that totaled 4 days over a four-day
period. These phones were donated to Verizon for recycling and distribution to
2. area shelters that render services to women making strides to overcome domestic
violence.
Also oOur Executive Director, Susan Kyles, appeared inon a local media news
stations and to informed the community of about the partnership between Dress
for Success and Verizon Wireless, for whom we are certainly grateful.
