2. History of the Drug
• Methamphetamine, also known as meth, began use in WWII as a drug to
relieve soldiers from drowsiness.
• Japanese kamikaze pilots were given the drug in order to stimulate their senses.
• Public meth use became widely known when surplus stored for military use became readily
available for the Japanese public.
• Later, in the 1950s, meth was prescribed as a diet aid and a counter to depression.
• In the 1960s, meth grew popularity as the demand of injectable meth became widely popular.
• In the 90s, Mexican drug trafficking has set up large factories in California, some of which can
produce over 50lbs of meth in a single weekend. It is very common for a meth addict to be able to
cook it in his own home. Most of the drug is being produced in Asia, allowing it to be available in
Thailand, Myanmar, and China.

Swallowing 20-30 minutes to feel affects Putting meth into gel capsules and
taking orally. Can also be inserted

Smoking 7-10 seconds to feel affects Drug enters blood stream through
the lungs
Shooting Up 15-30 seconds to feel affects Meth injected directly into veins.
Bumping 3-5 minutes to feel affects Meth enters the body through the

8. Effects on the Body’s Systems:
Nervous System Irritability, insomnia, confusion, tremors,
convulsions, anxiety, paranoia, and aggressiveness.
Cardiovascular System Hypertension, dysrhythmias, acute aortic, and acute
myocardial infarction
Digestive System Ischemia, blockage of large intestine, vasoconstriction
Respiratory System Chest pain, difficulty breathing, lung congestion, and
respiratory failure.

9. Medical Uses:
• Methamphetamine can treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but it may be easily abused.
• Meth impairs the judgment of the consumption of alcohol, leading people to drink an unhealthy amount of
the substance. This could then lead to alcohol poisoning.
• Meth can completely rip apart a person or family. This can lead to a family feeling that they have been given
up on. Also, meth can change a person’s perspective on his/her life, leading to the feeling as if they are not
wanted. All in all, meth is a very dark drug that should not be touched.
