- 8. Living and working in Brno
City of Brno:
Brno is the second-largest city in the Czech
republic. It was founded in 1243, although
the area had been settled since the 5th
century. Today Brno has about 380,000
inhabitants and is situated in south-eastern
part of Czech Republic, close to Bratislava,
the capital city of Slovakia, and to Vienna,
the capital city of Austria (both 130 km).
Brno is famous for its trade fairs and
motorcycling Grand Prix circuit, but it is also
an interesting tourist destination. There are
also situated many high schools and
universities (Brno is also the city with the
highest number of universities. There are
currently 6 universities with 27 faculties),
during the school year the city lives with
night life. In the centre, you can find many
restaurants, clubs and bars. In comparison
with Prague, Brno is not occupied by crowds
of tourists, so the visitors can feel how the
real Czech life looks like.

- 9. Living and working in Brno
Brno also offers many possibilities of cultural
enjoyment in its numerous theatres, museums,
cinemas and clubs. The City of Brno regularly
holds various cultural events, festivals (e.g.
„Brno - City in the Centre of Europe" associated
with a fireworks competition „Ignis Brunensis")
as well as some notable sporting events (Brno
Grand Prix of road motorcycles). Brno is also a
city of modern shopping and entertainment
centres.
Transportation:
In Brno, there is operated a system of public
transport, which contains buses, trams and
trolley-buses. All of these means of transport
run during day in few-minute intervals. During
night, there are operated only buses, which go
every full hour from “Hlavní nádraží” to all parts
of the city, to be returned back for next
meeting on the same place. These night buses
are by the people called “Rozjezd” and
especially on weekends are full of people.

Nightlife in Brno:
Generally the clubs in Brno are not like
clubs in bigger European cities. They do not
have very good DJs who would prefer only
one music stream, that would make the
club to a drum´n´base legend. Mostly they
mix up everything – oldies, pop, rock…
Which can also be very funny because
Czech people love to dance especially on
weekends.
