etiquette, propriety, social grace, to educate, discipline, the

Actually, Muslims are already taught ‘Adab ’ in following the
Prophet from the categorization of “Hukm taklifi ” and Fiqh :
[1] Fardh ‘ain before Fardh kifaaya;
[2] Wajib before mandub (sunnat );
[3] Removing harm (mafsadah, or mungkar) has priority over
bringing new benefit (maslahat);
[4] That which is near or closest, before the far and the distant;
[5] Concern for our shortcomings rather than relishing or indulging in
self-praise;
[6] Aakhirah (eternal Hereafter ) has precedence over Dunya
(temporal world). etc.

“Say [O Prophet]: "If you love Allah, follow me, [and] Allah will
love you and forgive you your sins; for Allah is much-forgiving, a
dispenser of grace.”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 31)

There are many who claim to “Love” . And they would think that
they have this kind of feeling for Allah, even.
Yet Allah, in this verse, puts things into perspective. The reality is
that “we do not truly know or have intimate knowledge of Allah yet.”
It is only through Allah’s Messenger that this knowledge is
possible. And the benefit from this knowledge can only be possible
by obeying and following the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w.
Thus the ADAB requires firstly our attachment towards how we
regard the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. – who is the Most Beloved of
Allah’s creation.

“The Prophet has a higher claim on the believers than [they
have on] their own selves, [seeing that he is as a father to
them] and his wives are their mothers: and they who are
[thus] closely related have, in accordance with Allah’s
decree, a higher claim upon one another than [was even the
case between] the believers [of Yathrib] and those who had
migrated [there for the sake of Allah]. None the less, you are
to act with utmost goodness towards your [other] close
friends as well: this [too] is written down in Allah’s decree.”
(Qur’an: Ahzab: 33: 6)

Say: "If your fathers and your sons and your brothers and
your spouses and your clan, and the worldly goods which
you have acquired, and the commerce whereof you fear a
decline, and the dwellings in which you take pleasure - [if
all these] are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger
and the struggle in His cause, then wait until Allah makes
manifest His will; and [know that] Allah does not grace
iniquitous folk with His guidance.“

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“None of you is a (true) believer until he loves me more
than he love his own self, or his parent, or his son, or
every other human being.”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“I am Muhammad (Praised one) and Ahmad (Most Praised);
and al-Muq-fiy (the Most Honoured) and al-Haashir (the
Gatherer of man) and Nabiy at-Taubah (Prophet of
Repentance) and Nabiy ar-Rahmah (Prophet of Mercy). ”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

It was said (to the Prophet s.a.w.) “Supplicate (Allah’s wrath)
upon the Mushrikeen (polytheists) , and he replied: “Verily I was
not sent (as prophet) to condemn, but rather I am sent as a
Mercy.”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“None of you is a (true) believer until his desire (do not
oppose, but) inclines to whatever (teachings) I bring.”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“I am the Most Beloved of Allah, and this is not to boast. And I
will be the bearer of the banner of “The Praise” on the Day of
Judgement under which will follow Prophet Adam and all who
came after him, and this is not to boast.”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“And I am the first to intercede (for others) and whose intercession
will be the first (the foremost to be) accepted (by Allah) on the day
of Judgement, and this is not to boast.”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“And I am the first to approach the gate of Paradise which Allah
then would open it for me, and I shall enter it together with all
the humble amongst the believers, and this is not to boast.”

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

“And I am the noblest of all (creations) of Allah, since those of
beginning till the last (of time) , and this is not to boast.”

That “Love” is a feeling we have unto whom we hold with special
esteem. But there are many feelings which people may regard as
“love” or called it as such isn’t it? What is it actually?
How do we know their differences?
What is to “love” someone?
People who claim to be in love, may be deluded, when they
impose their personal likes and dislikes; their priorities; their choices
and preferences etc. rather than that of their “beloved’s”
likes/dislikes, choices, preferences, concerns, priorities, etc.

Some feel as though we ‘love’ the Prophet s.a.w. but the more
pertinent concern should be to consider, “how would the Prophet
s.a.w. feel towards us, who have so much shortcomings ?”

“I asked from Allah that He would make the accounting (judgement)
upon my nation (Ummah) known to me and not be witnessed by
other nations (communities of other prophets).
Then Allah Most Exalted, said : ‘O Muhammad! I will be judging
them, and whenever there are shortcomings amongst them, I will
cover them for your sake, so that they would not shame you.’ ”

“There has certainly come to you a Messenger (Muhammad)
from among yourselves it grieves him that ye should perish:
ardently anxious is he over you: to the Believers is he most kind
and merciful”
(Qur’an: Taubat: 9: 128)

“Endure, then, with patience (all that they who deny the truth may say]
-always remembering that it is none but Allah who gives thee the
strength to endure adversity -and do not grieve over them, and neither
be distressed by the false arguments which they devise.”

"Oh, my Allah! To Thee I raise my hand to complain of the
feebleness of my strength, of my lack of resources and of my being
unimportant in the eyes of people.
Oh, Most Merciful of all those capable of showing mercy! You are
the Robb ( Lord, Sustainer, Cherisher) of the weak, and You are my
own Robb ( Lord , Sustainer, Cherisher). To whom are You going to

entrust me to? To an unsympathetic folk who would sullenly frown
at me, or to an alien to whom Thou hast given control over my
affairs?

Not in the least do I care for anything except that I may have Thy
protection for myself.
I seek shelter in Your light - The light that illuminates the Heavens
and dispels all sorts of darkness, and which controls all affairs in this
world as well as in the Hereafter.
May it never be that I should incur Thy wrath, or that You should
be displeased with me. I must remove the cause of Thy displeasure
until You are pleased. There is no strength nor power but through
Thee."

for they do not know.”

DA’WAH TO TA’IF
His response to the angels who were ready to destroy the
unbelievers who tormented him.

“No (don’t destroy them) ! But my hope is that Allah
will bring forth from their descendents, people who
worship Allah Alone, and do not set up partners
(i.e. commit shirk) to Him. ”

“Certainly did Allah confer [great] favour upon
the believers when He sent among them a
Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His
verses and purifying them and teaching them the
Book and wisdom, although they had been
before in manifest error.”

“So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were
lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech]
and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from
about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for
them and consult them in the matter. And when you
have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves
those who rely [upon Him].”
(Qur’an: Aali ‘Imran: 3: 159)

“And if you (call) invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and
you see them looking at you while they do not see. Give due
allowance for man's nature, and enjoin the doing of what is right;
and leave alone all those who choose to remain ignorant.”

“So be patient, [O Muhammad], as were those of determination
among the messengers and do not be impatient for them. It will be on the Day they see that which they are promised - as though they
had not remained [in the world] except an hour of a day.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

When Moses , upon whom be peace, read the Tablets, he found
mentioned in them the merits of the nation (Ummah) of Muhammad,
may blessings and peace be upon him, and said: "O Lord! Which is
this mercy-given nation that I find in the Tablets?”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Allah answered: "It is the nation of Ahmad*, whose people are
content with whatever little provision I give them, and I am content
with whatever little good works they do. I make each one of them
enter the Garden by his testimony that La ilaha illa'Llah.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):
And Moses said: "I find in the Tablets a nation of people who shall be
resurrected and assembled on the Day of Rising with their faces like
full moons. Let them be my nation!"
But Allah replied: "They are the nation of Ahmad; I shall gather them
resurrected on the Day of Rising, when their foreheads and limbs
shall be blazing white from their wudhu’ (ablutions) and their sajda
(prostrations).”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):
Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people whose
clothes are on their backs and whose swords are on their shoulders,
people of certitude and dependence ; they glorify Allah from
minaret-tops, and they continue to seek to fight for every righteous
cause, until they do battle against the Dajjal. Let them be my
nation!"
But He said: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation for whom the earth
is a place of worship and ritually pure, and for whom booty is lawful;
let them be my nation!"
But He replied: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people who fast
the month of Ramadan for You, and whom You then forgive all they
had done before; let them be my nation!"
But He replied: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people who go
on pilgrimage to the Inviolable House for Your sake, whose longing
for it is never exhausted, whose weeping is long and tumultuous,
whose talbiya is clamorous; let them be my nation!"
But He said:"They are the nation of Ahmad.“

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "What will You give them for that?"
And Allah said: "I shall grant them more forgiveness, and shall allow
them to intercede for those who come after them.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people who ask
forgiveness for their sins; when they raise their food to their mouths
it does not reach their stomachs before they are forgiven; they start
with Your Name and end with Your praise; let them be my nation!"
But He said: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation whose members will
be the foremost on the Day of Rising, but are the last to be created;
let them be my nation!"
But He replied: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people whose
gospels are held within their breasts and they recite them; let them
be my nation!"
But He replied: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people among
whom, when one of them intends a good deed but does not perform
it, it is written as one good deed for him, while if he does perform it,
it is written as ten to seven hundred times its worth; let them be my
nation!"
But Allah said: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation among whom,
when one of them intends a sin but does not commit it, it is not
recorded against him, while if he does commit it, it is written as a
single sin; let them be my nation!"
But He replied: "They are the nation of Ahmad.“

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation who are the best of
people, who exhort to good and forbid evil; let them be my nation!"
But He said: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):

Moses said: "O Lord! I find in the Tablets a nation of people who will
be resurrected and brought on the Day of Rising as three groups. One
group shall enter the Garden without reckoning, another's reckoning
will be easy, and another will be rigorously judged, then made to
enter the Garden; let them be my nation!"
But He said: "They are the nation of Ahmad.”

Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah be pleased with him,
said (narrating a hadith):
Moses said: "O Lord! You have spread out all this goodness for
Ahmad and his nation; let me be a member of his nation!"
But Allah told him: "O Moses! I have chosen and preferred you over
other people with My Message and My Speech; take what I have
given you, and be one of the thankful.“

Al-Ham-dulil-laah ! Shouldn’t we be glad and grateful to this!
Our affection and love for the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w.
commensurate with how well we know him, his virtues, his concerns,
his excellences etc. which Allah has accorded him.
During his time, people had the privilege to meet him face-to-face,
encounter, interact, and gaze upon his Noble and blessed
countenance.
For us now, we can be expected to love the Prophet only after
fulfilling several approaches.

Generally we should first confirm his Prophethood, obey his
commands and prohibitions; support, help and protect him, reviving,
practicing, teaching and spreading his Sunnah; invite all to Allah, to
the Book of Allah and ways of Allah’s messenger; inculcate in
ourselves his noble characteristics and Adab. Maintain esteem
respect and love for the Prophet s.a.w.; preserve his Sunnah from
neglect or attack (in practice and by teaching them); sharing his
likes/dislikes; understanding his Shari’ah; loving for People of his
House (Ahlul-Baytihi) and his loyal companions, and the true Ulama’ ;
showing compassion to his entire Ummah; extend his message of the
Mercy of Allah for the worlds.

True love must be ‘sincere’ and ‘selfless’ – something related to
our Islamic concept of Tauheed. We love the Prophet s.a.w. because
of Allah s.w.t.
How do you inculcate this?
It must begin with a true sense of “gratefulness”. Only from this
can the feeling of true “love ” grow.
What we seek is that “love” (hubb) which Allah and His
Messenger s.a.w. meant by “love”, not our self-deluded
‘understanding’ of love.

“O Allah! Grant us the love for You, and the love for Your
Messenger Muhammad s.a.w., and the love towards whoever
has love for You, and make us to love doing every deeds which
can bring us towards Your Nearness, and make us to love You
more than our love for cool (drinking) water.”

“O Allah, bless our master Muhammad, Your slave and Your Messenger, the
Unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of our Master Muhammad, and

  • 18. There are many who claim to “Love” . And they would think that they have this kind of feeling for Allah, even. Yet Allah, in this verse, puts things into perspective. The reality is that “we do not truly know or have intimate knowledge of Allah yet.” It is only through Allah’s Messenger that this knowledge is possible. And the benefit from this knowledge can only be possible by obeying and following the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w.   • 20. “The Prophet has a higher claim on the believers than [they have on] their own selves, [seeing that he is as a father to them] and his wives are their mothers: and they who are [thus] closely related have, in accordance with Allah’s decree, a higher claim upon one another than [was even the case between] the believers [of Yathrib] and those who had migrated [there for the sake of Allah].   • 65. Al-Ham-dulil-laah ! Shouldn’t we be glad and grateful to this! Our affection and love for the Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w. commensurate with how well we know him, his virtues, his concerns, his excellences etc. which Allah has accorded him. During his time, people had the privilege to meet him face-to-face, encounter, interact, and gaze upon his Noble and blessed countenance. Generally we should first confirm his Prophethood, obey his commands and prohibitions; support, help and protect him, reviving, practicing, teaching and spreading his Sunnah; invite all to Allah, to the Book of Allah and ways of Allah’s messenger; inculcate in ourselves his noble characteristics and Adab. Maintain esteem respect and love for the Prophet s.a.w.; preserve his Sunnah from neglect or attack (in practice and by teaching them); sharing his likes/dislikes; understanding his Shari’ah; loving for People of his House (Ahlul-Baytihi) and his loyal companions, and the true Ulama’ ; showing compassion to his entire Ummah; extend his message of the Mercy of Allah for the worlds.   • 67. True love must be ‘sincere’ and ‘selfless’ – something related to our Islamic concept of Tauheed. We love the Prophet s.a.w. because of Allah s.w.t. How do you inculcate this? It must begin with a true sense of “gratefulness”. Only from this can the feeling of true “love ” grow. What we seek is that “love” (hubb) which Allah and His Messenger s.a.w. meant by “love”, not our self-deluded ‘understanding’ of love.
