2. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression from
it to the full product?
Looking back I feel that I have learnt a lot in the progression from the
preliminary task to the full project. I have learnt that lighting is vital to
have a decent front cover. As you can see the quality of the actual photo
in the preliminary task is better, this is because the photo was taken
outside so all light is natural, whereas the photo for ‘Chord’ magazine
was taken indoors with little natural light. However I learnt how to adjust
some colour settings to make the photo look better in the progression
from preliminary task to full product. I also learnt that the use of fonts
and having an element of consistency is important. As you can see on the
preliminary, the colours and font type of the sell lines are different.
Whereas on the full project all the sell lines are the same size (except
from the main one), also they are the same font style, keeping the page
consistent. Finally they all have an outer glow, another skill I learnt in the
progression from the preliminary to the full project.
Another aspect I feel I have learnt in the progression from prelim to full
product is the positioning of the models. The model in the prelim is
positioned very central, thus leaving hardly any room around the edge
for sell lines. As you can see on the music magazine the model is
positioned into the left, leaving ample room for the sell lines down the
right.
3. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression from
it to the full product?
As you can see there is a massive difference between the
preliminary and the full project. During the progression I
learnt how to change the colour of the font, which
makes a big difference to the effectiveness of the
contents page. I also learnt, by looking at existing
magazines contents page, that the layout of the
contents page is important. It is important because the
contents page has to be easy to read and understand,
therefore distinguishing between regulars and features
makes it easier to understand. As you can see the layout
of the full project is much more professional than the
preliminary. I have done this with the additions of the
three sub-headings and separating the page numbers
from the text by having them a different colour.
4. Overall
Overall I feel I that I have learnt a lot more in the technological side rather
than the photography side of things. I have learnt so much in the
progression from preliminary to the full project. I feel that I was able to
pick up important factors from the creation of the prelim such as the use
of font, the effectiveness of colour and the importance of consistency on
a page.
Although I feel that I have learnt more to do with technologies than the
photography side, I believe that I have still learnt a bit. For example how
important natural light is to achieve a good picture and positioning your
model to fit in enough space to have enough room for sell lines.
