2. INTRODUCTION
• Joaquín is my grandfather. He was born in Málaga in 1910.
He had 5 brothers and a sister.
• At first he lived with his family. His father was a judge and his mother
couldn´t read.
• When his father died, my grandfather , his brothers and sister had to
go to a boarding school.
• And there, he studied Bachillerato. Then, he studied as a Social
Security Graduate and finally he passed the public examinations.
3. WORK
At first, he worked at what is now the Social Security Department
(Ministry of Labour).
In his thirties he earned about 20,000 pesetas per month.
He worked helping people to receive their pensions.
Sometimes, he substituted as a Labour Delegate in religious
ceremonies.
His working hours were from 08:30 to 14:30. In the afternoons he did
overtime in the Labour Delegation.
4. WORK
His rest period was two days per week ( Saturday and Sunday).
He always had a contract.
His life was good and he spent his free time playing music and
painting. He dreamt of being a person who could live without laws,
without secrets…
From what I´ve heard about him, he was a person who didn´t seem to
be from that era. He never spoke about politics or religion. He used to
walk along the street listening to his radio and he spent his free time
painting and speaking with other painters and musicians.
5. So, this was my grandfather´s life. I have to say that I had would have
liked to have met him.
It´s difficult to explain something like this… I hope you understand.
In memory of my grandfather, Joaquín Bugella Gómez.
