“ I like meeting my friends online and chatting. I like getting my skills up. I learned to read on Runescape [a massive multi player online game …] I learned maths through working out the money and I learned map-reading.” The Byron Report’s Call for Evidence The Byron Report -
Violent Content “ I quite like my son playing this game. It connects him with friends from different villages. There’s lots of camaraderie between them.” (Mum, rural community, Leicestershire) “ I think it’s awful. I would not let my son go on these games. It’s horrifying what they think is OK. They can behave in a completely different and totally unacceptable way. They think it’s OK because it’s virtual but I’m not so sure. It can’t be good to go around being so aggressive.” (Mum, rural community, Leicestershire) Columbine High School Shootings – April 1999 January 7 th 2009, Virginia. A boy of 6 misses school bus so steals his fathers car to get to school. The boy told police he learned to drive from games like GTA and Monster Truck Jam. ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

The players can take their own time to explore the issues and, if the game is designed well, they can come to their own conclusions rather than be force fed an opinion.” Gobion Rowlands – Red Redemption Soul Control Funded by the DCSF, Soul Control is an anti-knife crime game that aims to show the realistic consequences of criminal behavior. ,[object Object],[object Object]

Wireless Health Risks ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Professor Lawrie Challis , head of the committee on mobile phone safety research, calls for pupils to be monitored amid mounting public concern over emissions from wi-fi networks. “ Children are much more sensitive than adults to a number of other dangers, such as pollutants like lead and UV radiation, so if there should be a problem with mobiles, then it may be a bigger problem for children.” Alasdair Philips - Director of consumer group Powerwatch, believes "We are not talking about problems caused by heating. Our brains and nervous systems work by using electrical signals. I believe these signals are being interfered with by exposure to this wi-fi radiation.”
The New Dark Age? Physicist Jonathon Hueber believes that because technology is becoming so complex, innovation will have ceased around 2024 and we will be in his ‘dark age’. “ The impact on society has been stunning in extending our ability to develop ideas in practical manifestations, which enable us to produce food, travel, communicate, manufacture, heal and amuse ourselves in ways which would have been hard to predict at the beginning of the twentieth century. So can we learn from the past 100 years and devise a curriculum, which will better prepare teachers and youngsters who may be living in the next century?” Products with Electronics: Designing and Making the Future Part 2 Andy Cooper, Nottingham Trent University “ Games make use of sub-conscious learning techniques, engaging the player with the game world – it’s a natural and fun way of learning” Gobion Rowland, Red Redemption

  1. CALL ‘SETTING THE SCENE’ and use sky background
  2. Mention scapeghost as only simialr in genre to fallout 3
  3. Gilligans Island The show followed the comic adventures of seven castaways as they attempted to survive and ultimately escape from a previously uninhabited island where they were shipwrecked.
  4. LITTLE SISTERS MSN LIST - ADD AS TITLE
  5. Top comments are from the byron report
  6. 1minute 30 leeroy runs in. talking over Ventrillo. Video also shows complicated nature of the game interface
  7. Site frequently goes down because its over subscribed
  8. Pupil-participants’ interest and motivation though noticeable were short-lived. The ease of interfacing with peripherals like digital camera via USB port or Bluetooth technology to facilitate design images manipulation in real time. My favorite new technology Hold up and show Flip camera. Make a five second video to distribute around work later
  9. Emissions from Wi-FI networks is a lot lower than mobile phones. It is believed that a classroom containing 1 router and 20 laptops have the same emissions as a single mobile phone Quote one = “Children are much more sensitive than adults to a number of other dangers, such as pollutants like lead and UV radiation, so if there should be a problem with mobiles, then it may be a bigger problem for children.” Quote two = "We are not talking about problems caused by heating. Our brains and nervous systems work by using electrical signals. I believe these signals are being interfered with by exposure to this wi-fi radiation.”
  10. Technology will become so complicated only the top companies of the time will be able to proceed forwards with it.
  11. byron review - only a low percentage of people play in extent of 30 hours or more per week. It is not clear whether this is because of addictive content or lack of other activities to undertake.
  12. MY most important – Teachers - Access a wide variety of learning materials that they can customise for the exact needs of their pupils. Pupils - work at their own pace and with a wider choice of learning styles, through a more personalised curriculum. Parent - support children in any learning which takes place outside school.
  13. Andy Cooper - “The impact on society has been stunning in extending our ability to develop ideas in practical manifestations, which enable us to produce food, travel, communicate, manufacture, heal and amuse ourselves in ways which would have been hard to predict at the beginning of the twentieth century. So can we learn from the past 100 years and devise a curriculum, which will better prepare teachers and youngsters who may be living in the next century?” Gobion Rowland - “Games make use of sub-conscious learning techniques, engaging the player with the game world – it’s a natural and fun way of learning” Teacher education is very important also – Need the CPD to go alongside this technology or it will be the children teaching the teachers! Also say – ‘I hope you all havent felt… as a boy I’ve focused on games to much… games play massive part in these ‘news techs’
