3. Our Mind Set:
Our world has flattened and is interconnected
Information is just going to continue to grow exponentially
Students of today and tomorrow learn differently than we did
We are life long learners
We are self-directed learners
“The illiterate of the 21st century
will not be those who cannot read
or write, but the ones who cannot
learn, unlearn and relearn”
(Alvin Toffler)
“How we connect with
each other is how
learning occurs”
(Stephen Wilmarth)
“Collaboration and
sharing knowledge are
highly prized skills”
(Alan November)
4. “Combining face-to-face and technology helps
engage the teacher and students into a learning
community where everyone benefits and grows
into a lifelong learner. Learning is becoming
relationship-based or a huge learning network”
(Nellie Deutsch)
.
5. What are Digital Literacies?
They refer to our ability to effectively
make use of the technologies at our
disposal. It’s not only a checklist of
technical skills, but also about the social
practices that surround the use of new media.
So not just knowing how to create a blog entry,
but knowing how to use this to connect with a
wider community of readers and writers, and
what sort of online persona one projects
though one's post.
Not just knowing how to upload photos to
Flickr ( a photo sharing site), but knowing
whether to publish them under a Creative
Commons license and what this implies in
terms of digital rights and usage.
