Note the pattern of change in the following model verbs.
me me (to/for me) José me dio una foto de los mapuches.
te you ¿Te dio una carta?
le you (formal) Él quiere darle un libro a usted.
him Yo quiero darle un libro a él.
her Quiero darle un libro a ella también.
nos us Nuestros amigos nos compraron chocolates.
les you/them ¿Ellos les mandaron tarjetas postales a ustedes?

Position of indirect object pronouns
ust like Direct Object Pronouns, the indirect object pronoun is
placed immediately before a conjugated verb, but maybe
attached to an infinitive or a present participle.
Ellos) Me dijeron que esa hey told me that that movie is
película es muy buena. really good.
Vas a comprarme esa revista? re you going to buy me that
(Tú) Me vas a comprar esa magazine?
revista?
A él or A ella) Estoy dándole
mi tarjeta de crédito. ’m giving her/him my credit
card.
e estoy dando mi tarjeta de

4. Indirect object pronouns
hird-person indirect object pronouns (le, les) are generally used
with the indirect object noun. This redundancy does not occur in
English.
es escribí a mis primos. wrote to my cousins.
ambién le escribí a Mónica. wrote to Mónica too.
e and les are often clarified with the preposition a + pronoun.
e escribí a ella anoche. wrote to her last night.
t’s common to use the forms a mí, a ti, a usted, a él, a ella, a
nosotros/as, a ustedes, a ellos, a ellas with the indirect object
pronoun for emphasis.
sabel me mandó el paquete a mí.
sabel sent the package to me. (me only! not to someone else, ha ha!)
