1. VUSD/ CSEA NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
August 30, 2012
The Vista Unified School District (“District”) and the California School Employees
Association Chapter #389 (“CSEA”) met at the District Office at 9:30am on Thursday,
August 30, 2012.
The parties continued to discuss the reopened contract Articles sunshined by the parties
in the Spring of 2012.
Articles to be negotiated by the parties are as follows:
o Article 4- Unit Member Rights
o Article 11- Pay and Allowances
o Article 14- Transportation
o Article 15- Health & Welfare Benefits
The parties have previously met three times to discuss the articles listed above.
Discussion:
o Article 4- Unit Member Rights. The parties did not discuss this Article; the District did share the
belief that the current contract language is sufficient.
o Article 11- Pay & Allowances. The District withdrew the proposal dated June 19, 2012. The District
presented a revised proposal. CSEA asked clarifying questions regarding the proposal. The parties
will continue to discuss this proposal at the next session.
o Article 14- Transportation. The District provided CSEA with a draft of the School Bus Team
Handbook. The purpose of sharing this document was to allow CSEA to provide feedback to the
District.
o CSEA stated they would need additional time to prepare their proposal for Article 15- Health &
Welfare Benefits. The parties agreed to meet on September 6, 2012 to receive this proposal.
The next negotiations sessions are scheduled as follows:
o September 6, 2012, 10:30- 11:30
o September 20, 2012, 9:30- 4:00
