NURS07022 Module Introduction

  1. Following a period of study and reflection.
  2. Level 7 (Year 1 - Certificate Level) 20 academic credits (1 of 6 modules in Year 1 = 120 credits in total by the end of Year 1)
  3. Values-based, person-centred care.4 module learning outcomes on which the content and assessment are based.
  4. Online to the Moodle site, highlighting the tabs for navigating around the siteClick on the Module team tab to identify the local module team, site deputy and module coordinatorClick on the Module Handbook tab and identify key sections of the Handbook.
  5. Highlighting recommended reading given in the Module Handbook to help students prepare for each week. The more prepared students are, the more they will gain from taught sessions.
  6. Go back to the Moodle siteUse the Module Handbook tab to access the recommended readingUse the Week 1 and Week 2 tabs to demonstrate how students will access this information week-to-week.
  7. Go to Moodle and use the Timetable tab to access local timetable, stressing the need to check the online timetable at least every week for changes. Times and venues subject to change – highlight student responsibility for being in the right place at the right time.
  8. Attendance – highlight the 75% rule (less than 75% - not eligible to submit assessment). It is the student’s responsibility to sign the Registers.Punctuality – no admittance to class after 10 minutes from start timePreparation – lecturers will assume the recommended reading has been doneBehaviour – ground rules to be discussed in the next session e.g. mobile phones etc.
  9. Go back to Moodle and access assessment tab.
  10. Summarise written assignment. Stress the importance of the formative assessment.
  11. Stress that the topic is also part of the summative assessment so completing the formative assessment will help with the summative. Already part of the way there.
  12. 3 main areas in the form of a workbook.
  13. Go back to the assessment tab and access the Introduction to Nursing Workbook.Brief explanation of Turnitin and student guides for the same. Access Moodle and Assessment tab for link. Electronic submission, plagiarism.
  14. Stress the role of the Mentor – more information on this later in Preparation for Practice sessions.
  15. Students assessed against the HCSW induction standards.
  16. Go back to Moodle and access the HCSW standards information leaflet via the Practice Placement tab to identify the standards. Stress that these are all contained in the OAR to be discussed during the Preparation for Practice sessions.
  17. Consider outcomes – does anything need further clarification? Any questions?
