This document discusses how the internet was initially thought to allow producers and consumers to connect directly without intermediaries in the 1990s, resulting in some disintermediation. However, in the 2000s, applications and interfaces that are more personalized through features of Web 2.0 may be changing the dynamics of intermediation by driving profit from individual user profiles rather than general targets, leading the authors to question if new forms of intermediation are emerging. The document was written by Paulan Nahirñak and Martín Parselis for a conference in Madrid, Spain from June 25-27, 2008.
