The European Union is a group of 27 countries that work together through shared governing bodies like the European Parliament and European Commission. Member states agree to common rules and standards in exchange for economic and social benefits. The EU began in 1957 with six founding members and has since expanded to cover most of Europe. Its goals include promoting peace, democracy, prosperity, and sustainable development across the continent.
