1. Experimental investigation regarding the effect of vortex generators on the
aerodynamic performance of the Dena+ vehicle
The main focus of this study is on investigating the effects of different shapes of vortex
generators on IKCO Dena+ vehicle’s aerodynamic performance. For this purpose, a 2:5 scale
model of the vehicle was used alongside various types of vortex generators. The position and
height of the vortex generators were chosen based on previous research. Four common shapes
among vortex generators such as Cylindrical, Delta, Bump and also a NACA 0012 profile were
chosen for this study. All the tests were conducted at 18, 36, 54 and 72 km/h wind velocities.
The results indicate a reduction of drag coefficient. Shape-wise, the NACA 0012 airfoil shaped
vortex generators had the best performance meaning in every tested velocity they presented the
most reduction in drag coefficient. Said vortex generators resulted in an 11% drag coefficient
reduction for the vehicle.
