descansa en dos sectores: el ingenio Central Roma-
na y el turismo.
It’s one of the most renowned destinations in
the Dominican Republic and it is one of the most
important tourist destinations in the country,
because it has great tourist attractions, hotels,
and charming beaches with Blue Flag certifica-
tion, well-known golf courses, tropical forests,
great historical heritage and several cultural
activities. This tourist enclave has been greatly
developed with high productivity, because its
economy rests in two sectors: the Central Ro-
mana sugar mill and tourism.
ATTRACTIONS
Juan Pablo Duarte Park: located in the heart
of La Romana, which is named after one of our
founding fathers. Here you will find a statue
in honor of this hero, and the Paseo de los
Inmortales, composed of statues of players
who have entered the Latin Baseball Hall of
Fame. In its surrounding one can find the
Santa Rosa de Lima parish, and the Munici-
pal Town Hall. Location Calle Duarte.
The Obelisk: built in the 50’s, this work has
striking images captured with allegorical paint-
ings of the local identity and tourist activities of
La Romana. Location: between Av. Libertad and
Dr. Teófilo Hernández street.
The Artistic: in this blacksmith’s workshop you
can see how the metals such as iron, bronze, stain-
less steel, aluminum and silver are melted follow-
ing the instructions of the artist and owner José
Ignacio Morales,known as “The Artistic”.At the end
of the day you’ll enjoy observing from lamps and
gates, to sculptures and gigantic metallic monu-
ments. The works of this famous workshop have
been awarded in large exhibitions worldwide.

SUS ATRACTIVOS
Parque Juan Pablo Duarte: localizado en pleno
corazón de La Romana, lleva el nombre de unos de
los padres de la Patria. Aquí, encontrará una esta-
tua en honor al patricio, y el Paseo de los Inmorta-
les, compuesto por estatuas de jugadores que han
sido inducidos al Salón de la Fama del Béisbol La-
tino. En sus alrededores se encuentra la Parroquia
Santa Rosa de Lima y el Ayuntamiento Municipal.
Ubicación: Calle Duarte.
El Obelisco: construido en la década de los 50,
esta obra posee llamativas imágenes con pinturas
alegóricas a la identidad local y a las actividades
turísticas de la zona. Ubicación: entre Av.Liber-
tad y la calle Dr. Teófilo Hernández.
El Artístico: en esta herrería podrás ver como a
base de fuego y golpes los metales como el hierro,
bronce, acero inoxidable, aluminio y la plata se fun-
den siguiendo las instrucciones del artista y propie-
tario José Ignacio Morales, conocido como “el Artísti-
co”. Al final, disfrutará de la belleza de unas obras de
arte majestuosas como esculturas y monumentos.
Las obras de este famoso taller han sido galardo-
nadas en diversas exposiciones a nivel mundial.

Cultural Village: this
ancient jail was turned into
a cultural village, and today
its facilities house a Bella Artes
school and a Dominican handicraft
shop, as well as a place to organize
concerts and art exhibitions. Location:
Avenida Libertad. Tel.: 809-851-6324.
Francisco Micheli Stadium: Baseball is the
most popular sport in the Dominican Repub-
lic; the season runs from October to January,
with games that take place during the week
and weekends. This stadium was inaugurated
in 1979, and it’s the home of the Toros del Este
team. So experiencing the energy, emotion
and passion in a Dominican baseball game is
a unique experience. Location: Avenida Padre

La Caleta Beach: this beautiful area is the
only public beach in town. It is an impres-
sive place to experience the “essence” of the
Dominican Republic, eat delicious fried fish
and enjoy a cold beer. Location: on the south
coast of La Romana.
Cueva de las Maravillas Natural Park (Cave
of Wonders): a natural museum of pre-Colum-
bian Taíno rock art that connects directly with
the history of the Spanish Island. Inside the
cave you can see around 500 engravings and
paintings on the walls in which the red and
black color predominates. Calcium deposits
have also given rise to stalactite formations;
the tour of the cave lasts about 35 minutes
and is done with experimented guides.

Aldea cultural
Santa Rosa de Lima:
esta antigua cárcel fue con-
vertida en una aldea cultural,
y hoy día sus instalaciones al-
bergan una escuela de Bella Artes y
una tienda de artesanías dominicanas,
al igual que un lugar para organizar con-
ciertos y exhibiciones de arte. Ubicación:
Av. Libertad. Tel.: 809- 851-6324.
Estadio Francisco Micheli: el béisbol es el de-
porte más popular en República Dominicana. La
temporada de juego se extiende desde octubre
hasta el mes de enero, con juegos que se desa-
rrollan durante la semana y fines de semana. Este
estadio fue inaugurado en 1979 y es el hogar del
equipo Toros del Este. Así que experimentar la
energía, la emoción y la pasión en un juego de
béisbol dominicano es una experiencia única.

Playa la Caleta: este hermoso litoral es la única
playa pública del pueblo. Es un lugar impresionan-
te para experimentar la “esencia” de la República
Dominicana, comer un delicioso pescado frito y
disfrutar de una cerveza bien fría. Ubicación:
en la costa sur de La Romana.
Cueva de las Maravillas: un museo natural de
arte rupestre taíno precolombino que conecta di-
rectamente con el pasado más remoto de la Isla
Española. Dentro de la cueva se pueden apreciar
alrededor de 500 grabados y pinturas en las pa-
redes en las que predomina el color rojo y negro.
Las sedimentaciones de calcio han dado lugar con
el tiempo a formaciones de estalactitas. El reco-
rrido por la gruta tiene una duración de unos 35
minutos y se realiza con guías experimentados.

Casa de Campo Resort Villas: is the most
luxurious, complete and exclusive complex
in the Dominican Republic, it has among its
attractions a resort, more than 100 villas and
apartments, three prestigious golf courses
that have been internationally recognized, an
amphitheater, harbor sports, polo, equestrian
center, shooting range, a beautiful private
beach, in addition to its charming marina, an
excellent place to go shopping, dinner and of

Altos de Chavón: it’s the recreation of a six-
teenth century Mediterranean village, famous
for being a cultural point and home of artists.
Its museum contains a collection of more than
3,000 indigenous artifacts. There is also the
beautiful San Etanislao Catholic Church and its
name in honor of John Paul II. This citadel is
one of the most striking tourist attractions, has
several restaurants, luxury boutiques and its
renowned stone amphitheater, in the Roman
style, with a capacity for 4 thousand people and
where recognized world famous artists such as
the legendary Frank Sinatra, who inaugurated
this masterful stage in 1982 with the American
jazz drummer, Buddy Rich, as well as other great
stars of music, have performed. In addition, the
most prestigious art and design school in the
Caribbean affiliated with “Parsons School of De-
sign’’ of the city of New York is located in this
beautiful setting.
GOLF
Dominican Republic is considered as the golf
mecca in Latin America, the Caribbean and La
Romana which have the best courses with an
impressive view of the Caribbean Sea. You can

Casa de Campo Resort Villas: es el com-

Altos de Chavón: es la recreación de una al-
dea mediterránea del siglo XVI, famosa por ser
un punto cultural y casa de los artistas. Su mu-
seo contiene una colección de más de 3,000 ar-
tefactos indígenas. Además, se encuentra la her-
mosa iglesia católica San Etanislao y su nombre
es en honor a Juan Pablo II. Esta ciudadela es
una de las atracciones turísticas más llamativas,
cuenta con varios restaurantes, boutiques de
lujo y su reconocido anfiteatro, al estilo romano,
con aforo para 5 mil personas, y donde se han
presentado reconocidos artistas de fama mun-
dial, como el legendario Frank Sinatra, quien
inauguró este magistral escenario en el año
1982 junto al baterista estadounidense de jazz,
Buddy Rich, además de otras grandes estrellas
de la música. También cuenta con la escuela de
arte y diseño de mayor prestigio del Caribe afi-
liada a “Parsons School of Design” de la ciudad
de Nueva York.
GOLF
República Dominicana está considerada como
la meca del golf en América Latina y el Caribe.

Teeth of the Dog: This emblematic and world fa-
mous golf course,designed and inaugurated by Pete
Dye in 1971, has 18 holes, 7 of which are facing the
Caribbean Sea. It is constantly placed as the #1 golf
course in the Caribbean and one of the top 50 of the

Catalina Island: this natural paradise unites the
beauty of its beach and its surroundings, with beauti-
ful landscapes; it is an excellent place to practice water
sports,since it has coral areas where you can explore the
marine beauty through the practice of snorkeling and
diving. Visiting Catalina Island is an exciting adventure
and for this you must contact those who sell the tour.

Teeth of the Dog: este emblemático campo de golf de
fama mundial diseñado por Pete Dye en 1971, cuenta

shots. The Links consists of a remarkable influence
of the Scottish style thanks to the tiny but difficult
hills and the almost omnipresent intervention of

impress you with its variety and modern design,
it offers 18 holes in one of the most beautiful
landscapes of this area, where the player will
find three different settings during the game,

BAYAHÍBE
Este poblado se encuentra enmarcado entre bellas
playas cargadas de cocoteros e innumerables ma-
nantiales, ubicados a unos 16 kilómetros de La Ro-
mana. Este hermoso lugar es frecuentado por miles
de visitantes que vienen a observar todos sus atrac-
tivos, en especial, sus hermosos atardeceres. Aquí,
el cielo se “viste” durante todo el año de diversas
tonalidades que van desde el rosa, azul, naranja y
rojo, uniéndose en el horizonte con las siluetas de
los barcos de pescas y catamaranes formando un es-
pectáculo sensorial impresionante.
This town is surrounded by beautiful beaches
loaded with coconut trees and innumerable
springs, it’s located about 16 kilometers from La
Romana. This beautiful place is frequented by
thousands of tourists who visit all its attractions,
especially its beautiful sunsets. Here, the sky is
dressed in different colors all throughout the
year ranging from pink, blue, orange and red,
with the ocean full of the silhouettes of fishing
boats and catamarans forming an impressive
spectacle.
ATTRACTIONS
Rose of Bayahíbe: the ‘’Pereskya Quisqueyana’’,
also known as the Rose of Bayahíbe, it’s the na-
tional flower of the Dominican Republics. It is an
endemic species of cacti that grows up to 4 meters
high and its beautiful light pink flowers bloom
between March and June. This is an endangered
species that is only found in this area, specifically
in La Punta.
Eugenia Beach: to the east of La Punta, this
small riverbank is located. From here, hundreds
of tourists leave in boats to visit the attractions
of Saona Island.
Bayahíbe Beach: this Caribbean oasis, with crys-
tal clear waters and fine white sand, is surrounded
by palm trees and coconut trees. From here, the
fishermen and excursion organizers travel to visit
the two closest islands to the beach, Saona and
Catalina. Location: west of La Punta.
La Punta: the coast of Bayahíbe is divided by a
rocky peninsula known as La Punta where you
can walk along its path of and enjoy a beautiful
ocean view. Here you will find La Divina Pastora
de Bayahibe, a church built in 1925, which was
named after the patron saint of the town.

Rosa de Bayahíbe: también conocida como la
Pereskia Quisqueyana, es la flor nacional de Re-
pública Dominicana. Esta es una especie endémica
de cactus de la isla, la cual crece hasta 4 metros de
altura y sus hermosas flores color rosa pálido flore-
cen entre marzo y junio. Esta planta, que está en
peligro de extinción, solo se encuentra en este
lugar, específicamente, en La Punta.
Playa Eugenia: para disfrutar de esta pequeña,
pero hermosa ribera debe dirigirse al este de La
Punta. Desde allí, salen en barcos cientos de turis-
tas para ir a conocer los atractivos de la Isla Saona.
Playa Bayahíbe: este oasis caribeño de aguas
cristalinas y de fina arena blanca, está rodeado de
palmeras y cocoteros. Es el punto de salida de los
pescadores y organizadores de excursiones para vi-
sitar las dos islas próximas: Saona y Catalina. Ubica-
ción: al oeste de La Punta.
La Punta: la costa de Bayahíbe está dividida por
una rocosa península conocida como La Punta, don-
de podrá caminar y disfrutar de una impresionante
vista al mar. Aquí, encontrará La Divina Pastora de
Bayahíbe, una iglesia construida en 1925, la cual fue
nombrada en honor a la santa patrona del pueblo.

fresh water sources known as springs or
indigenous eyes. The Taino Indians called them
‘’eyes’’ because of their shapes, these natural

The origins of San Rafael de Yuma date to the
beginning of the XVI century, this small town
limits to the north with the Salvaleón de Hi-
güey municipality, to the west with La Romana
province and to the south with the Caribbean
Sea. Its wooden houses painted in vibrant co-
lors and its emblematic park, attract the visi-
tors’ attention at first glance. On a plain bor-
dering three kilometers and next to the Yuma
River, you may find the House of Juan Ponce
de León, from which the Spanish general ruled
the Eastern region.
After San Rafael de Yuma, approximately 10 mi-
nutes away is the small coastal town of Boca de
Yuma with a beautiful bay where the Yuma River
empties into the Caribbean Sea, which makes it
an exclusive and unique place in the world. This
cove is an ideal place for fishing and boat trips.
ATTRACTIONS
This part of the country has natural wealth that
makes it a unique place, if you are interested in
visiting this area, you can enjoy various activi-
ties such as fishing, excursions to different parts
of the eastern part of the country, and above all,
if you are a lover of photography, this area will

birds, the colorful fishing boats or also navigate

al Río Yuma, se encuentra la Casa de Juan Ponce
de León, desde la cual gobernó la región Oriental
este general español.
Después de San Rafael de Yuma, aproximada-
mente a unos 10 minutos, se encuentra el pe-
queño pueblo costero de Boca de Yuma con una
hermosa bahía donde el río Yuma desemboca en
el mar Caribe, lo que la convierte en un lugar ex-
clusivo y único en el mundo. Esta ensenada es un
lugar ideal para la pesca y excursiones en botes.

Esta parte del país tiene riquezas naturales que
lo hacen un lugar único, si está interesado en

actividades como la pesca, excursiones a dife-
rentes puntos de la parte Este del país, y sobre

CofresíCave: it carries the name of a pirate who,
according to local folklore, used the cave as a base.
From this place there is a boat ride where you can
see iguanas, rhinoceroses and birds, especially pe-
licans.The ride lasts approximately 30 minutes and
includes a stop at Playa Blanca. Location: located
2 kms away from Yuma River and this tour is only
accessible by boat.
Playa Blanca: while traveling the Yuma River to
the Cofresí cave, you can stop at Playa Blanca and
enjoy this beautiful riverbank that can only be ac-
cessed by boat. Location: Boca de Yuma.
The Berna o Bernard Cave: this cavern is un-
doubtedly the most spectacular cave from the
point of view of the number and quality of the
petroglyphs it contains, in comparison with all
those that are known in the East of the country.
Around three hundred figures are engraved on
their floors and walls with beautiful stalagmites
and stalactites that show drawings and features
of the pre-Columbian culture. Location: Boca de
Yuma.
Hoyo Zumbador: it’s a small beach connected to
the ocean through an underground cave, as a re-
sult, the area looks like a hole. It is an ideal place to
swim. Location: Boca de Yuma next to El Arponero
Restaurant.
Ponce De León Museum: the purpose of this mu-
seum is to revive the legendary history of the
Spanish explorer and conqueror Juan Ponce de
León. Here the furniture, utensils and historical
artifacts are exhibited. This space was the house of
the conqueror in the between the years 1505-1508
and from here the explorer conquered the island of
Puerto Rico and set out to discover Florida. Location:

Cueva Cofresí: lleva el nombre de un pirata que de
acuerdo con el folclore local usó la gruta como base.
Desde este lugar se realiza un paseo en barco donde
podrá ver iguanas rinocerontes y aves, especial-
mente pelícanos. El paseo dura aproximadamente
30 minutos, e incluye, una parada en Playa Blanca.
Ubicación: situada a unos 2 kilómetros por el río
Yuma y este recorrido solo es accesible mediante un
viaje en barco.
Playa Blanca: mientras recorre el río Yuma hacia
la cueva Cofresí puedes parar en Playa Blanca y
disfrutar de esta hermosa ribera que solo se puede
acceder a ella en barco. Ubicación: Boca de Yuma.
La Cueva de Berna: esta caverna es, sin duda,
la cueva más espectacular desde el punto de vis-
ta del número y la calidad de los petroglifos que
contiene, en comparación con todas las que se co-
nocen en el Este del país. Alrededor de trescientas
figuras están grabadas en sus suelos y paredes con
hermosas estalagmitas y estalactitas que mues-
tran dibujos y rasgos de la cultura precolombina.

Hoyo Zumbador: es una playa pequeña conecta-
da al océano a través de una cueva subterránea,
como resultado, la zona parece un hoyo. Es un lu-
gar ideal para nadar. Ubicación: Boca de Yuma al

Museo Ponce de León: este espacio tiene como
propósito reavivar la historia legendaria del ex-
plorador y conquistador español Juan Ponce de
León. Aquí se exhiben muebles, utensilios y ar-
tefactos históricos. Esta fue la casa del conquistador
entre 1505-1508 y desde aquí luchó en contra de
los aborígenes, luego de este episodio el explo-
rador conquistó la isla de Puerto Rico y se propuso

The featured sites would be the part where
the known Quedagh Merchant of Captain
Kidd are, which was found near the coast of
Catalina Island in 2008, just 3 meters under
water, as well as the wreck of St. George, a
great option for certified shipwrecks divers.
DIVING AREAS
Among the multiple diving zones, the most
well-known are:

resting place of Captain Kidd’s Quedagh
Merchant is one of the most infamous pirate
ships in the world.As this place is protected and
is still being scientifically observed, obtaining a
permit to visit is necessary. Depth: Suitable for
all public.
Shipwreck Atlantic Princess: this wreck
is stranded outside the Hilton resort and
while the plan was to sink it intentionally, a
storm dragged it to a place with little depth.
The result is a new shipwreck that can be
enjoyed by experienced divers as well as
amateurs. Depth: 12m Suitable for all public.
El Faro: a magnificent Caribbean reef that
is in a shallow garden which has a variety
of coral and marine sponges, a place where
the typical Caribbean aquatic life flourishes.
Depth: 14m-18m. Suitable for advanced or
second level divers.

encuentra el conocido Quedagh Merchant de
Captain Kidd, que fue encontrado cerca de la

lo arrastró a un lugar con poca profundidad.

El Faro: un magnífico arrecife caribeño que está
en un jardín superficial, el cual tiene una variedad
de coral y esponjas marinas donde florece la típica
vida acuática caribeña. Profundidad: 14-18
metros. Apta para buzos avanzados o de segundo
nivel.
La Romana posee excelentes condiciones naturales
que lo convierten en un importante destino para
la práctica de buceo, una atracción que se suma a
las razones que han convertido a este lugar en una
parada obligatoria en cualquier recorrido turístico.
Su costa se caracteriza por tener corales a baja
profundidad, corrientes de agua favorables, barcos
hundidos y los denominados “Museos vivos del
mar”, que incluyen una amplia variedad de especies
submarinas y un patrimonio cultural subacuático de

emocionantes y nuevas aventuras para todo el que
esté dispuesto a practicar buceo o snorkeling.

these four shallow reefs are full of coral and ma-
rine sponges. Depth: 12m-14m. Suitable for all
public.
Shark Point: a favorite place to dive on the reefs
and The Marine Coral Wall. In this site you can
find stingrays and eels, angelfish and even sma-
ll sharks. Depth: 16m. Suitable for experienced
and qualified divers.
Peñón: in this place one can enjoy beautiful co-
rals with a variety of colors, watch stingrays, eels,
speckled fish and sharks. Depth: 14m-25m. Sui-
table for experienced and qualified divers.
Shipwreck ST. George: This transatlantic cargo
ship measures 240 feet, which used to transport
wheat and barley from Norway to America, was
sunk in 1999 to create an artificial reef. St. Geor-
ge offers clear visibility, large open areas, and
a large amount of marine life, here you can see
barracudas, sponges, crabs, squids and octopu-
ses. Depth: 30m-40m. Suitable for advanced or
second level divers.

llas: estos cuatro arrecifes poco profundos están llenos

marina. Aquí, podrá ver desde barracudas, esponjas,

Cueva de las Maravillas: it’s one of the big-
gest touristic attractions in the area, this natural
museum of pre-Columbian Taíno rock displays
around 500 engravings and paintings on the red

Sport fishing: is a popular touristic attraction that
complements the offer of the area as a leisure des-
tination. The insular condition of this destination
has named the country Billfishery #1 in the world
by Billfish Report, which distinguishes it as
the most important place to capture species of
beak (Blue Marlin, Swordfish and White Marlin,
among others); and in the area of La Romana,
Bayahibe and Dominicus is where these species
abound and the season extends from February
to May of each year, when these types of fish vi-
sit these warm waters.
Saona Island: this islet is characterized
by golden sand beaches and crystal clear,
shallow waters, surrounded by coconut trees
forming a perfect paradise to enjoy a day of
sun and beach. It is for this reason that a trip
by boat, catamaran or speedboat, makes this
excursion one of the most attractive. You can
also enjoy a delicious lunch and drinks of Do-
minican rum.
Tabaco Tour: this is an exciting and cultural
excursion where you will learn how the best ci-
gars in the world are made. Here you will witness
the processes and the techniques of the traditional
production of handmade cigars, from the planting
of the tobacco in the field to the packing of the fi-
nished cigar, while showing the proud work of the
most experienced cigar rollers and the tools with
which these artisans work to create the famous

como destino de ocio. La condición insular de este

captura de especies de pico (Marlin Azul, Pez Es-
pada y Marlin Blanco, entre otros), y en la zona
de La Romana, Bayahíbe y Dominicus es donde
más abundan estas especies y la temporada se
extiende desde febrero hasta mayo de cada año,
cuando los peces de competencia visitan estas
cálidas aguas.
Isla Saona: este islote se caracteriza por tener
playas de arena dorada y aguas cristalinas, poco
profundas y en sus alrededores enmarcadas con
cocoteros formando un paraíso perfecto para
disfrutar de un día de sol y playa, es por esta
razón que un viaje en barco, catamarán o lancha
rápida, hace que esta excursión sea una de las
más atractivas. Además, podrá degustar un rico
almuerzo y tragos de ron dominicano.

quista Park is the largest historical reconstruction
