9. Is MYTCL really accepted by community?
The protests
complaints that more than 31,000 hectares land in the Latpdadaung region
have been confiscated to make way for the $1bn expansion of the copper
mine, run by Myanmar Wanbao Mining.
The activists and monks staged a mass sit-in protest in 2012.
The protest was broken up brutally by riot police on 29th Nov 2012 when
some 80 protestors were injured, including several Buddhist monks, many
with horrific burns that experts have attributed to white phosphorous.
10. Is MYTCL really accepted by community?
The group- Nay Myo Zin, Naw Ohn Hlan, Tin Htut Paing, Ba Myint and
Than Swe - were arrested after scuffling with police in front of the Chinese
embassy in a protest denouncing the death of Lapadaung villager Khin
Win, who was fatally shote by security forces at the China -backed copper
mining project in Sagain Dvision's Monywa. on 29th December 2014.
11. Action on Protest Breaking Up
An investigation commission on Ladpadaung Copper Mining, chaired by
Aung San Suu Kyi, was founded around March 2013.
12. Increasing MYTCL
increased their investment from US$600Million to US$997Million in
August, 2013.
The GM of Wanbao said that expenses incurred due to specification in the
reviewed contract have dedicated that the company must increase its
investment.
