Banco Santander is among the leading
companies in the world in sustainability
■ The bank has improved its ranking in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the
prestigious global index of companies’ economic, environmental and social
activities.
Madrid, September 17, 2013 – Banco Santander is one of the top ranked companies this
year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the prestigious list of the world’s most
sustainable companies, measured by their economic and environmental activities and their
contribution to the communities in which they are present.
Santander achieved a score of 84 in the global index, based on the three areas assessed.
The bank has been included in the index since 2000 and has gradually improved its ranking to
become one of the top companies worldwide for its sustainability management.
Santander improved its score by one point in 2013, compared with the previous year. This
was thanks to its internal corporate sustainability strategy, its commitment to its employees
and customers, its solid and balanced model of corporate governance, its market-leading risk
management system and its adoption of the latest regulations and legal requirements in these
areas.
The result reinforces Santander’s standing as a sustainable bank. It was recently named
Sustainable Global Bank of the Year by the Financial Times and International Finance Corp, a
World Bank agency.
