Introduction:
Increasing pressure on wild water bodies increased over the years due to
continuous rise in population, urbanization, Industrialization, mechanization,
tourism induced threat on endangered wild fisheries resources and
unsustainable exploitation of fisheries resources leading to over exploitation,
decline in fishery catch, species diversity and destruction of Aquatic
ecosystems. Hence this idea aims to explore the possible difficulties at
ground level in order to better management of fisheries resources and also
doubling of farmers income by increasing unit area fish production, new
employment opportunities creation in its value chain to land less poor
peoples, and achieving nutritional security as this work aims via
Implementation of Fisheries Management approaches for promoting
Sustainable aquaculture and value addition as alternative livelihood
opportunities to fishermen and fisherwomen for fish production, income
doubling, promoting fish consumption and nutritional security.
How to implement the innovative idea:
1. Preparation of the Draft Plan of action (POA) after exploring and
understanding about existing near by resources and facilities
2. Collection of the key information about the Public representatives and
officers for meeting for seeking coordination in required POA.
3. Collection of the targeted stakeholders data (localities, available
facilities in area, technically trained or not, financial support is there or not
for starting business &local public demand for this specific business is there
or not, gap, critical issues to address, Strength, weakness ,opportunities and
threats etc).
4. Organizing awareness meet with via of pubic representatives and local
officers.
5. Collection of feedback from the stakeholders for actual needed
technological gap(availability of data on nearest aquaculture producers &
market accessible in area for continuous supply of required fish varieties to
the business, Ice plants for cold storage, Fridge, utensils for value addition)
and financial support required for bringing the sustainable technology.
6. Extensive study to know the Helping hands as technically supporting &
Training Fisheries research institutes like ICAR-CIFE-Mumbai, CIFA,
CIFRI, MPEDA, CIFT, CMFRI, CIBA, RGCA, NIFPHAT, KVK, FRS and
public financially supporting (NFDB, State fisheries depts, NABARD,
NCDC, FISHCoPFed) schemes both in center level and sate level, If any
schemes like PMMSY, state fisheries departmental & other allied department
linked schemes, ATMA, Kisan Credit cards and other loans etc.
7. Preparation of detailed POA, based on the beneficiaries demand technical
training and financial support advisories for Implementation of the Promoted
(eg: fish food kiosk) if the particular business is supported to the beneficiary
under any Schemes/Bank Loan by inviting Public representatives and
associated officers.
8. The beneficiary invite for Inauguration of business on any good days as
per beneficiary perceptions and beliefs.
9.Advertisement in local news paper, good poster of business,
regarding Location of fish food kiosk, contact details, email,
Consumer need based fishery value added products preparation on
the demand ordered by the consumers. In this way we can promote
Aquaculture and value addition of fishery products
Expected outcomes from innovative approaches:
Unused large number of potential aquatic resources can be brought under sustainable
aquaculture practices which will increase fish production and minimize the efforts in
wild fisheries resources from over exploitation.
Ponds excavated under Blue revolution, PMMSY, State fisheries department funds, bank
loans, private ponds should be mapped as Aqua sites in particular district and periodical
monitoring should carried out by nearby technical staff for on site technical advisories
and identification of ground level difficulties .
Renovation of farm ponds excavated under NREGS schemes for fish farming by
supporting them under kisan credit loans for promoting Aquaculture.
Seasonal water bodies can be utilized for short time fish seed rearing activities which
will helpful to doubling the farmers Income due to efficient Sustainable use of available
Aquatic resources.
It will also helpful in meeting local demand of large quantity& quantity of fish seed
requirements in targeted area/remote areas and also provide seed for small scale
farming practices like Integrated Agri cum Aqua farming, Animal cum Aqua farming,
IMTA farming and semi intensive aqua farming (Net income range 2-6Lakhs/ha/year).
Surplus production in area and domestic marketing fish produced will helpful in
providing large number of employment opportunities in its value chain to unemployed
youth and land less poor peoples also for achieving nutritional security in targeted area
due to increase in awareness on food income gives food purchasing power
Fish harvested from aquaculture ponds transported through electrical 3 wheeler vehicles roofed with solar
panels will provide energy required meeting cold storage during the transportation.
Marketing of sufficient quantity of fresh fish based on the local demand at affordable price will helpful to
promote consumption of fish further in achieving nutritional security.
Proper hands on training on Value added fishery products will helpful for efficiently utilization of low
cost fishes for promoting through value added fishery products via products diversification practices based
on the consumers demands in the area expected net income range from 1.5-3lakhs/small scale kiosk/year.
