Significant commercial applications are widely available –– medical, academic, agricultural and industrial settings: 6,000 hospitals in the US store thousands of curies of Cesium-137, a component of nuclear medicine. Cesium-137 is widely used in cancer therapy machines , hospital blood sterilizers and elsewhere as a water-soluble powder. Cobalt 60, which can also be used in dirty bombs, is widely used in food irradiation .
