Opening Remarks

Michel Thiry has over 35 years worldwide professional experience and has worked in many cultural
environments. He graduated as an architect and has worked on a number of major construction projects
for over 20 years. He is now recognized as a worldwide authority in strategic applications of project,
program and value. As such, he has supported the development and implementation of a number of
strategic programs for large multinational organizations, including their restructuring as Project-Based
Organizations (PBO). In 2006 he was elected PMI Fellow for his continued contribution to project
management and in 2007 he was nominated Fellow of the Association for Project Management (APM).
David Hillson is well-known internationally as a leading thinker and expert practitioner in risk management,
and he consults, writes and speaks widely on the topic. David specialises in both strategic and tactical
risk, with a particular interest in opportunities and risk psychology. David’s contributions to the risk
discipline over many years have been recognised by a range of awards, including “Risk Personality of
the Year” in 2010-11, and the PMI Eric Jennet PM Excellence Award in 2011. David is also an Honorary
Fellow of the UK Association for Project Management (APM), and a PMI Fellow in the Project Management
Institute (PMI®), both marking his contribution to developing project risk management.

Mark Langley became PMI’s President and CEO in December 2010 after serving over eight years as
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. In the chief executive role, Mr. Langley is responsible
for overseeing and serving as the lead advocate for PMI’s complex global organization, consisting of
more than half a million members, certification holders and other stakeholders in more than 185 countries.
In support of the PMI Board of Directors, Mr. Langley’s primary responsibility is leading the organization’s
alignment to and execution of PMI’s strategic plan through the development and implementation of its
operating strategies and organization.

formation, application management and technology product management roles. As the Change Delivery
Director for Barclays Retail Bank, John leads a team of talented change professionals who deliver both
business and technology programmes leveraging an agile-based, joint delivery framework.
Dr Terry Cooke-Davies has been a practitioner of both general and project management since the end
of the 1960s and a consultant to blue-chip organisations for over twenty five years. He is the founder
and Group Chairman of Human Systems International, a global project management knowledge transfer
organization. Terry has a PhD in project management, has more than 50 publications to his credit and has
co-authored five project management books including “The Right Projects, Done Right” (Jossey Bass
2006), “Aspects of Complexity” (PMI 2011) and “Best Industry Outcomes” (PMI 2012).
