Research Assistants and Data Clerks Vacancies
1. Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, is an international NGO supporting health programs
to improve the health of women and their families. Jhpiego-Kenya works in close collaboration with
both the Ministry of Medical Services and the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in the areas of
HIV, Malaria, TB, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Reproductive Health and Family Planning.
We are currently reviewing our database of Research Assistants and Data Entry Clerks who would
called up on need basis. Interested candidates should be available to take up Short Term
Assignments at short notice and be able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-
tasking abilities.
RESEARCH ASSISTANTS
Under the supervision of the assigned MER officer, the Research Assistant will manage data collection
by following laid down protocol, meeting deadlines and reaching agreed upon targets.
Responsibilities:
• Contribute to explaining the data collection process to participating study site workers and
obtaining their agreement
• Carry out primary structured interviews
• Recruit and consent study participants using a defined script and study procedure
• Maintain close communication with the study manager as specified by the supervisor to
ensure compliance with and adherence to the project plan and to identify, evaluate and
rectify problems
• Ensure each data collection tool is accurately and legibly completed
• Handle all the study materials carefully (unused and completed data tools) until the moment
they are handed over and accepted by the supervisor
Required Qualifications/Skills:
• University Degree or a Diploma especially in social sciences or development-related field
• Experience in conducting qualitative family planning or health-related research
• Experience in conducting research interviews
• Experience in using tablets, either for personal use or for data collection
• Strong organizational skills (for keeping data files organized)
• Ability to work independently and to exercise independent judgment
• Strong ability to work and communicate within a team
• Flexible to travel and work in the counties
2. DATA ENTRY CLERKS
Under the supervision of the assigned MER officer, the data entry clerk will compile, sort, and enter
assigned data.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare source data for computer entry by compiling and sorting information
• Enter data into a computerized system and/or statistical software
• Maintain data entry requirements by following data program techniques and procedures
• Verify data by reviewing, correcting, deleting or re-entering data as directed by the supervisor
Required Qualifications/Skills:
• University degree or a diploma
• Knowledge in Microsoft Office applications
• Good typing skills
• Result driven and thorough
• Prior experience in use of either of the following applications is an added advantage:
REDCap, CSPro, EpiData, KePMS
• Prior experience in entering qualitative data is an added advantage
