The system being analysed will be the bed and tipping mechanism of a tipper trailer
of an articulated lorry as shown in the image below. In this analysis I will be
calculating the equilibrium of the
system when the bed is tipped to
different angles, other calculations
would also tell me the length that the
hydraulic ram will need to be as the
angle at alpha changes. I will be
calculating equilibrium with it loaded to
capacity and the hydraulics fully
extended and another with the same
variables but halved.
The important measurements that I have
gathered from the CAD drawing (left) are
the lengths of the tipping section (8712
mm), the length of the chassis between the
hydraulic ram and pivot point (8900 mm)
and the maximum angle that the trailer can
tip to (43º) I also found that according to
(Megaway China, 2015) the maximum
payload of this trailer is 35,000 Kg.
