Lessons and Treks
Now that they are retired, my moth-
er and father are discussing all as-
pects of their future. "What will you
do if I die before you do?" Dad
asked Mom.
After some thought, she said that
she'd probably look for a house
sharing situation with three other
single or widowed women who
might be a little younger than her-
self, since she is so active for her
age.
Then Mom asked Dad, "What will
you do if I die first?"
He replied, "Probably the same
thing."
A young schoolboy was having a
hard time pronouncing the letter
''R,'' and all the other kids were, of
course, teasing him about it. To
help him out, the teacher gave him
a sentence to practice at home:
''Robert gave Richard a rap in the
ribs for roasting the rabbit so rare.''
In class a few days later, the teacher
asked the boy to recite the sentence
out loud.
The boy nervously eyed his class-
mates--many of them already
laughing at him--then replied, ''Bob
gave Dick a poke in the side be-
cause the bunny wasn't cooked
enough.''
Sometimes when I reflect back on
all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think
about the workers in the brewery
and all of their hopes and dreams.
Well what if I didn't drink this beer?
Those workers might be out of
work and their dreams would be
shattered.
Then I said to myself, "It is better
that I drink this beer and let their
dreams come true than be selfish
and worry about my liver."
A boy asks his father, "Dad, are
bugs good to eat?" "That's disgust-
ing. Don't talk about things like that
over dinner," the dad replies. After
dinner the father asks, "Now, son,
what did you want to ask me?" "Oh,
nothing," the boy says. "There was
a bug in your soup, but now it’s
gone."
My friend told me he had the body
of a Greek god. I had to explain to
him that Buddha is not Greek.
Q: If you were forced to go through
one of the following doors, which
door do you go through with 100 %
certainty you'd stay alive: a door
with a man with a gun behind it, a
door with a tiger who hasn't eaten in
7 years behind it, or a door with an
electrical chair behind it?
A: The one with the tiger behind it,
because if it hasn't eaten in 7 years
it's dead.
3. The KEY to positive change is held
within your MIND and it’s Natural
Powers!
There is a way to create positive
change in your life; to achieve that
which you truly desire, to increase
your level of enjoyment, confidence,
comfort and peace of mind. Truly
understanding your mind is empow-
ering beyond belief. Fact is; when
we truly know about our MIND, we
connect with our inherent KNOW-
ING. This KNOWING is responsible
for Motivational energy, for the Pla-
cebo effect, Spontaneous Healing,
Miracles and so much more; it is the
seat of our inherent Confidence and
Power. People often tell me: “I have
lost my confidence” or “I have no
confidence”. Not so! Your confident
energy and power is intact within
you, it always has been. Like every
acorn knows it is an oak tree, your
inherent KNOWING, knows the
vastness of your potential.
We all have minds brim full of un-
tapped potential. Einstein said we
only use a small percentage of our
mind’s power and that “imagination
is more powerful than knowledge”.
Will you consider exploring the truth
about the power of the human mind
and looking at how this truth can
support you and your desires and
needs at this time? Come join me for
a series of 6 weekly classes as I
present scientific facts, mind, body
and energy facts, video footage, life
stories of healing, and live demon-
strations. Come join me as I provide
you with an interactive, dynamic,
challenging experience that is pre-
sented in an entertaining, logical and
inspiring manner. Come open your
mind to your vast potential.

BlackBerry Hearing,
was established to address the
shockingly high price of hearing
aids.
Blackberry Hearing,
an Irish company, is making
quality hearing aids much more
affordable and is adding numerous
clinics across the country as
demand increases. The company
offers its customers the option of a
free hearing test at home or a free
hearing test in a clinic held in a
partner pharmacy.
Michael Ormonde, a
recent customer from Newbridge,
had this to say: “I would highly
recommend Blackberry Hearing
from a service point of view. They
managed everything and
responded quickly all the time. The
first thing I noticed, however, was
the price. I was amazed at the price
and having worn the hearing aid
for some time the quality is even
better than (the much more
expensive) hearing aids I’ve had
before.”
Meanwhile, a local
woman, Kathleen Murray,
added:“I’d never had hearing aids
before. We were recently away in
Liverpool and I could join in on
every conversation. It wasn’t until
we came away I realised the
impact of what had just happened.”

There is no need to pay exorbitant
prices for hearing aids any more.
Blackberry Hearing aids start at
€399 for one, or €799 for a pair
with the grant. They are modern,
high quality, digital hearing aids
made by Widex in Denmark, one
of the top six makers of hearing
aids in the world and well
renowned for the quality of their
hearing aids.
The transparent pricing of the
product is a deliberate and key
policy decision by Blackberry
Hearing, in contrast to many other
hearing aid suppliers, where there
is a deliberate policy of having no
pricing information available or
upselling to higher prices after
testing.
Customers
Blackberry Hearing customers
have enthused about the price,
the quality and the service
with customer video reviews
being regularly posted on their
Facebook page, at

The policy is working as
Blackberry Hearing clinics are
booking out quickly across the
country due to the life changing
and positive impact that affordable
quality hearing aids make to
people’s lives.
Blackberry Hearing keep it
simple by offering two hearing aid
models, both of which address
mild to profound hearing, are very
discreet and comfortable and are of
the highest quality.
John Ryan, who co-
founded the company with Dave
Gleeson, said: “We are
encouraging our customers to
share their new found hearing
experience. Our customers tell us
how much of a difference their
new affordable, quality hearing
aids are making to their lives and
they are passing on the message to
friends and family”.

The Power of Knowing
This Course is Changing People’s Lives
4. One of the greatest days in the mod-
ern era for Tipperary GAA was wit-
nessed in Croke Park on Sunday last
as both the senior and minor hurling
teams led the county to respective
All-Ireland success on a scale so un-
imaginable that it took more than a
pinch to realise that it was in fact a
magnificent reality.
The Tipperary Senior Hurling Team
led by Captain Brendan Maher (Bor-
ris Ileigh) and the management of
manager Michael Ryan (Upper-
church-Drombane), coach - Declan
Fanning (Killenaule), selectors -
John Madden (Lorrha-Dorrha) and
Conor Stakelum (Borris-Ileigh) are
All-Ireland Champions for the 27th
time following their 2-29 to 2-20
defeat of Kilkenny in the final in
Croke Park last Sunday before an
attendance of 82,016.
Cue scenes of mass celebration as
six years of hurt and hunger were
buried in the Croke Park sod when
Brendan Maher hoisted aloft the Li-
am McCarthy Cup to rapturous
cheering and applause as golden tape
descended from above to confirm a
royal status on the kings of hurling
for 2016. Not a Tipp soul departed
the arena as each and every one
stood to salute and greet the men on
hurling's throne who delivered on the
greatest stage of all, creating a carni-
val atmosphere which scorched its
way rapidly down to the Premier
County as the festivities kicked off
in earnest.
This win was no accident it was
borne out of selfless belief and de-
sire from a fantastic group of play-
ers, all thirty four of them who
applied themselves to the task with
ruthless determination and attitude.
Preparations for the day couldn't
have been better and while nervous-
ness was palpable around the county
in the week leading into the final
there was also a sense that maybe
something special might unfold too
and that was it. Nobody dared speak
to out of turn for fear of jinxing what
was hoped for. For that Tipperary
Supporters take a bow, when asked
for restraint you delivered too as the
team was allowed prepare without
any interruption to their training, a
foundation surely set for the chal-
lenges that lie ahead when this year
is done.
What a team performance on Sun-
day, it was magical and at times sub-
lime as the Kilkenny team, worthy
champions, yielded to the greater
Tipperary force on the day. Tipper-
ary players hunted in packs particu-
larly the complete back unit and put
body and limb on the line in pursuit
of achieving their end goal. In doing
so the forward line were in devastat-
ing form and apart from a small bit
of errant shooting nailed scores to
the board as they pushed on and on.
With the half forwards dominating
too the profit from the inside trio
was stunningly spectacular as their
yield for the day delivered 2-21 of
Tipp's 2-29, the goals coming cour-
tesy of John O'Dwyer and John Mc-
Grath.
That inside line also delivered a Man
of the Match performance by Sea-
mus Callanan whose nine points
from play out a thirteen point tally
was testament to a worthy winner of
the accolade. Though Seamie walked
away with the award he had at least
four more breathing down his neck
for it that his hair must have been
singed such was Tipp's domination
on the day.
Left is Sunday Game presenter
Michael Lyster, Seamus Callanan
Man of the Match and Aogán Ó
Fearghaíl, President of Cumann
Lúthchleas Gael.
Congratulations to all the players,
management and backroom person-
nel on the All-Ireland victory, it was
certainly a whole team performance
and everyone is thanked enormously
for the efforts in ensuring Tipperary
is back on top of the hurling ladder
for 2016 at least.
Finally for now, a special word of
praise and enormous thanks to Mick
Ryan, Declan Fanning, John Madden
and Conor Stakelum for your guid-
ing and preparation of the team this
year, all the hard work of you and
the players on often long and cold
miserable nights has been converted
into the greatest prize of all and for
that we thank you. Time to rest, re-
flect and above all else enjoy this
moment in time, you certainly de-
serve it.
Thanks to An Garda Síochána for
providing escorts to our senior and
minor teams on Sunday as they
made the journey to Croke Park, as
always it is very much appreciated
and of huge valuable assistance in
getting teams to the venue on time,
míle buíochas.
ALL-IRELAND MINOR HURL-
ING FINAL
Tipperary are the All-Ireland Minor
Hurling Champions for 2016 follow-
ing their 1-21 to 0-17 victory over
Limerick in the opening match in
Croke Park last Sunday.
That hard earned win against what
was expected to be a resolute Limer-
ick side was the perfect recipe to the
Tipperary cake upon which the sen-
iors would lay the topping a few
hours later.
With emphatic wins in their last two
outings, Tipp management knew the
potential for a Limerick backlash
from their Munster Final defeat was
real and so set the task for manager
Liam Cahill and his team of Michael
Bevans, John Sheedy, TJ Ryan and
Sean Corbett to counteract the plot,
one they successfully and deservedly
managed.
Tense and tough Cahill's side stood
tall and took on the Treaty challenge
where it mattered most, on the score
board. Nip and tuck in the first half
Tipp were one ahead at the break
and when Jake Morris goaled for
Tipp it gave his side the cushion they
required and they held out to secure
the Irish Press Cup for the first time
since 2012.
To wild and ecstatic cheers from his
team mates Brian McGrath walked
the steps of the Hogan Stand to re-
ceive the cup and in doing so started
off what would be a wonderful day
for Tipperary.
Congratulations to the team, manag-
er Liam Cahill, his fellow selectors
and all his backroom staff on your
wonderful achievement. Pipped at
the post last year, redemption is
yours and you deserve every bit of
praise and acclaim that comes your
way.
ALL-IRELAND HOMECOMING
Monday night's homecoming cele-
brations in Semple Stadium were
absolutely outstanding. The crowd in
excess of thirty thousand was the
most wonderful sight for players to
witness as they walked out on the
stage to the rapturous cheering, ap-
plause and jubilation of the magnifi-
cent Tipperary Supporters, thank you
all, you were fantastic, wow what a
night and occasion you created.
The tremendous night would not
have happened without the wonder-
ful work of the organising home-
coming committee led by its
chairman John Devane, event man-
ager Con Hogan and Semple Stadi-
um Manager David Morgan and all
Stadium staff. Thanks to those who
erected the stage and sound and
helped in any way.
A special word of thanks to the won-
derful people from Tipp FM who got
the show on the road with fantastic
entertainment and music to create
the brilliant atmosphere for a most
wonderful and special night for Tip-
perary. Thanks to everyone who
played a part no matter how big or
small it all worked a dream for Team
Tipperary.

5. It’s that time of the year again and the
filing dates for the 2015 Income Tax
Returns are almost upon us. On the
31st October each year, a selfemp-
loyed individual/company director
and PAYE worker with untaxed non
PAYE income is required to:
• File his/her Income Tax Return for
the previous calendar year.
• Pay the Balance of tax for the previ-
ous calendar year.
• Make a Preliminary Tax payment
for the current calendar year.
For customers who file the 2015
Form 11 return and make the appro-
priate payment through the Revenue
Online Service (ROS) the due date is
extended to Thursday the 10th No-
vember 2016.
PAYE customers who are required by
Revenue to file a Form 12 for 2015
and who opt to use the ‘e’ version,
the due date is also extended to 10th
November 2016.
TAX AND FINANCIAL REVIEW
POINTS
Late filing issues
• A surcharge (fine) of the
tax due of up to 5% or €12,695
whichever is the lesser can arise if the
return is filed within two months after
the deadline.
• If the return is filed more
than two months after the deadline, a
surcharge of 10% is imposed subject
to a maximum of €63,485.
• Interest of .0219% per
day also arises on any liability not
paid which approximates to about 8%
a year.
2. Use all available reliefs and cred-
its
The following are some of
the more popular reliefs remaining:
• Health expenses are
available for relief at the 20% stand-
ard tax rate. Not all medical and den-
tal expenses are eligible. Keep
evidence of the expenses claimed.
• Nursing Home fees and
the costs of employing a person to
care for an incapacitated person in
their home are relieved at the taxpay-
ers’ marginal rate of tax.
• Home Carers Tax Cred-
it is a valuable credit available for
certain married couples depending on
their incomes.
• Tuition fees for third lev-
el courses will qualify for income tax
relief at the standard rate of tax for
approved courses in approved colleg-
es. The relief is only available on the
excess over €3,000 for full-time
courses and €1,500 for part-time
courses. Relief is not available in re-
spect of administration, registration
or examination fees.
3. Farmers and tax
Farmers are currently experiencing
levels of income volatility across all
farming sectors.
Availing of the following can help in
reducing your tax bill:
• Get an actual or reliable estimate
of your liability for 2016 to reduce
this year’s preliminary tax payment.
• Claiming the correct stock relief.
• Payment of legitimate family
wages.
• Offsetting entire 2015 super levy
liability even when payment is spread
over three years.
• Pension top-up.
• Carefully consider income
averaging:
- New averaging rules for the 2015
tax year.
- For farmers previously in averag-
ing the profits were averaged over
three years but from the 2015 tax year
this has changed to four and five
years depending on the farmer.
- When profits are rising income av-
eraging yields a benefit but where
profits are falling averaging could be
a cost.
- It is not a straight forward process
opting in and out of income averaging
as opting out can result in additional
tax payable because Revenue has the
right to review the previous years.
- Income averaging is not for every-
one and all parties must understand
how it operates.
4. Pension tax relief and pension
review
- If cash flow allows one way of re-
ducing your self-employed tax bill is
to make a pension contribution. Tax
relief up to 40% is available on pen-
sion contributions.
- A contribution to your Personal Re-
tirement Savings Account (PRSA) or
Retirement Annuity Contract (RAC)
before the tax deadlines can be made
by the self-employed.
- Employees who are already includ-
ed in their company pension scheme
can pay an Additional Voluntary
Contribution (AVC) before this date
and offset it against the contributor’s
2015 tax bill.
- Medical Professionals such as GPs
who are members of the GMS
scheme and Medical Consultants who
are employees of the HSE can have
two occupations with both the Private
and Public Sectors. These profes-
sionals have the option of making
both AVC contributions and contribu-
tions to their PRSA or RAC within
Revenue maximum limits.
- Your pension should be reviewed
with your adviser on a yearly basis at
least. As you approach retirement
you need to know exactly the asset
mix of your pension funds i.e. equi-
ties (shares), bonds, property and
cash etc. Your attitude to investment
risk at this stage of your life is very
important.
- You also need to consider what lev-
el of tax free lump sum you are likely
to gain at retirement and how the rest
of your fund will be drawn down dur-
ing retirement i.e. Annuity draw-
down, transfer to an Approved
Retirement Fund (ARF)/Approved
Minimum Retirement Fund (AMRF)
or taken as taxable cash.
- Statistics are proving that people are
living longer and funding for retire-
ment is important for everyone to
consider.
Everyone’s financial circumstances
are different and it’s important to get
independent tax and financial advice
when reviewing your own financial
matters.
I can be contacted at the details below
in relation to the above information or
any other financial and tax need.

BUSINESS
Search for Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur gets underway in Tipperary
The latest search to find Ireland’s Best
Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) is getting
underway in Tipperary this week,
through Local Enterprise Office Tipper-
ary.
With a €2million investment fund avail-
able, including a €50,000 investment
fund for Tipperary winners, the enter-
prise initiative from the Department of
Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation and En-
terprise Ireland attracted 1,400 applica-
tions across the country last year and
supported over 450 young entrepreneurs
through training, mentoring and direct
financial assistance.
Announcing the start of this year’s pro-
gramme, the Minister for Jobs, Enter-
prise and Innovation, Ms. Mary
Mitchell O’ Connor T.D. said:
“The quest to find Ireland's Best Young
Entrepreneur is one of the most exciting
initiatives to create new businesses and
new jobs in recent years. IBYE gener-
ates that "can-do" spirit in which young
people excel. I want to foster that spirit
and to demonstrate that there is help out
there for any young person that wants to
take a risk and start their own business.
The first-stop-shop to get advice and
support on starting a business is your
Local Enterprise Office. I want to con-
gratulate the Local Enterprise Offices
on rolling out IBYE and I look forward
to meeting Ireland's young entrepre-
neurs up and down the country. I
would encourage all young entrepre-
neurs, between the ages of 18 and 35 to
talk to their Local Enterprise Office
about the IBYE programme and discuss
their business ideas.”
The initiative is co-ordinated by all 31
Local Enterprise Offices and begins
with a nationwide competition across
three categories at county level: Best
Idea, Best Start-Up Business and Best
Established Business. Around 450 ap-
plicants, across every Local Authority
area, will be invited to regional ‘Entre-
preneur Bootcamps’ in November, to
help them develop their business and
new venture ideas.
Speaking about Ireland’s Best Young
Entrepreneur (IBYE), Minister for Em-
ployment and Small Business, Pat
Breen T.D., said: "Ireland's Best Young
Entrepreneur (IBYE) initiative offers a
very significant stepping stone into the
world of running your own business for
young people aged 18 to 35. It's not just
the scale of the investment fund on of-
fer that makes IBYE so important,
IBYE entrants can go on to receive in-
tensive enterprise boot camp training
from their LEO under the programme,
to help them establish and develop their
entrepreneurship careers. The level and
depth of the business mentoring, train-
ing and advice available during the
LEO bootcamps has proven to be ex-
tremely effective in helping young am-
bitious business people to cope with all
aspects of running a business, especially
the preparation of focused business
plans. Such plans are an essential tool
for making a success of any business.
IBYE has proven to be a great success
in all the regions and I would encourage
young people with a business idea or
currently running a business to apply
for Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur”.
With an investment fund of €50,000,
Local Enterprise Office Tipperary will
award six investment prizes to three cat-
egory winners and three runners-up,
before the Regional Finals early next
year.
The local winners in the Best Start-Up
and Best Established Business catego-
ries will receive €15,000 each and the
two runners-up will each receive
€5,000. The Best Business Idea winner
locally will receive an investment prize
of €7,000 and the runner-up will receive
€3,000.
Rita Guinan Head of Enterprise with
Local Enterprise Office Tipperary ex-
plains: “The €50,000 investment fund
for Tipperary winners is a very impor-
tant part of the competition and will
help more young entrepreneurs to grow
their businesses and create more jobs
here locally. Other business supports,
such as management training, network-
ing and one-to-one mentoring are also
at the heart of the IBYE competition.
450 young entrepreneurs benefitted
from these business supports last year,
so the rewards are there for participants,
as well as for the winners. Taking part
in IBYE will help Ireland’s young en-
trepreneurs to move their businesses to
the next level, whatever stage their
business is at.”
To enter, young entrepreneurs between
the ages of 18 and 35 in Tipperary are
being asked to visit the competition
website at www.ibye.ie, to submit their
entry online. The closing date to enter is
Friday, October 14th and there is no
entry fee.

tablishing its own piece of history since

Athletic Track; Equipment Store I.A.A.F
Standard Equipment; Maintenance
Equipment and Security Fencing. 50%
was funded by the Department of
Sport/Education over a time period
stretching back to 1982. A further 10%
was invested in this project by the local
authority – North Tipperary C.C and
Templemore Town Council. The re-
maining 40% has been raised from inter-
nal sources of Finance. This equates to
€640,000 covering the entire project –
not bad for a town with a population of
2,500 people. The club is debt free.
The Clubs hinterland covers 650sq miles
in area. The club possess twenty Quali-
fied National Coaches (through A.A.I.),
ranging from ‘Little Athletics’ to level
three Coaches.
29 Athletes from the club have repre-
sented Ireland at International Level.
Tomas Coman represented Ireland in the
Sydney Olympics, while Margaret Dan-
agher represented Ireland at the World
Cross Country in Leopardstown in 2002.
Three Athletes from the Club obtained
Athletic Scholarships to the U.S.A.
• Margaret Danagher and
Monica Reilly obtained Scholarships to
the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma
• Brian Murray achieved a
similar reward in the University of Mo-
bile in Southern Alabama.
National Medals continue to be won an-
nually at Juvenile, Junior, Under 23,
Senior and Masters Level. This year
alone, yet another athlete, Simon Archer,
has been awarded a Sports Scholarship
to Letterkenny Institute of Technology,
having run 22.32 second indoors in the
200 metres.
But Templemore Athletic Club is unique
in other ways, apart from owning its own
Sports Complex, it caters for:
1. Special Olympics
2. Para Olympians
3. Fit-4-Life
4. Woodland Strollers walking Group
In Special Olympics in 2015 Irelands
Gold Medalist on the ‘Track’ in Los An-
geles was won by Club Member Rachel
Ryan in the 400 metres. Rachel has been
a member of Templemore A.C. for four-
teen years and this was a just award for
years of endeavour.
In Paralympics, Catherine Dunne won
National Titles at Wheelchair Shot, Dis-
cus and 100 metres. Many other Paral-
ympians use the excellent Templemore
Facilities to prepare for the ‘Rio’ Paral-
ympics later this year.
The Advent of Fit-4-Life in 2012,
through A.A.I. is managed by a sub
committee of women and men. The
present membership is approximately
110 members. They meet in squad ses-
sions with their team leaders on Thurs-
day nights at 8.00pm and in smaller
groups (as time allows), 2 of 3 times on a
weekly basis throughout the year. This
is a programme set up by A.A.I. to en-
courage fitness and recreational running
through involvement in the local club.
As an off-shoot from Fir-4-Life people
decided that they needed a walking
group – so ‘Woodland Strollers’ were
formed earlier this season, catering for
men and women who meet on the Athlet-
ic Track on Mondays at 8.00pm. This is
then followed-up by smaller groups of
friends meeting up throughout the week
and walking the local woodlands, (with
safety in numbers being the aim, as well
as healthy walking).
Templemore A.C. has come a long way
from a green-field development and no
athletes to its existing facilities, which
will be expanded further in the future
and a combined membership of competi-
tive and non-competitive persons of over
300 members.
International Athletes
Many athletes from Templemore Athlet-
ic Club have gone on to represent Ireland
at International Level, covering a wide
variety of events and distances. Those
athletes are:

7. to win Division one in a time of 18 min-
utes 49 seconds:
Adrian McGinley, Tony Fogarty, Robbie
Kennedy, Jack Corbett
As a double our second team won Divi-
sion Two – Adrian Young, peter mad-
den, Johnnie Doran and Luke Herke.
So ‘Gold’ on the double after waiting
nearly forty years.
As far back as 1992 the club won its first
Novice Road and Novice Cross Country
Titles. The team members were:
Michael Delahunty (4)
Stephen O Toole (6)
Johnnie Doran (1)
Jeremy Lyons (10)
Martin O Meara
Mark Jordon (5)
Richie Butler
James Tierney
Tommy Conroy
That was the beginning of
a wonderful period in Cross Country for
Templemore A.C. In 1993 Johnnie
Doran won the County Intermediate 8k,
Cross Country in Clonmel Race Course
that was followed up by the club winning
the Men’s Intermediate Title the follow-
ing year. The winning team on that No-
vember day in 1994 was:
Brian Murray (1st)
Mick Delahunty (2nd)
Donie kennedy (4th)
Mark Saunders (10th)
John Slattery (13th)
The remainder of the team tommy Con-
roy, James Tierney and Richie Butler.
In 1992, 1993 and 1994, Templemore
again with the familiar names of Johnnie
Doran, Stephen O Toole, Jeremy Lyons,
Martin O Meara, Mick Delahunty, Donie
Kennedy, Michael Browne, Con
Kennedy and Denis Carroll won a three-
in-a-row of County Novice Cross Coun-
try Titles. Then in 1994 Templemore
A.C. won the County Senior (B-Section)
Cross Country with Connie Lynch our
first man home.
The same names again feature strongly
in the victories achieved in the Novice A
& B winning Road Race Teams of the
1990’s, with Michael Delahunty and
Mark Jordon being victorious in 1993
and again Tom Ryan (Borrisoleigh) win-
ning the Race in Ballynonty in 1995.
The only County Senior Women’s Cross
Country Title was won in 1995 with the
scoring three being, Michelle Howe,
Mary Kinnane and Dolores Ingram. This
was over 4k and was staged in Moyglass.
In 1993 on the same day that Johnnie
Doran won the Novice C.C Title, Tem-
plemore A.C. had a glorious double
when Margaret Danagher won the Nov-
ice ladies Title.
Prior to the nineties, Mick Doyle
stamped his claim on the Road Races
winning Novice & Masters Titles on the
Road and at Cross Country. Mick also
holds the club record for the Marathon of
2 hours 43 minutes.
Present Day
The next crop of Athletes continues to
come on the conveyor belt for the future.
People like the ‘Dooley’ gang, Roscrea,
Ondrei Olah, Eimear Delargy, Fiona and
Siobhan Hennessy, Jack Barnett, Nessa
Towey, Nevins, Crous, Cozens, Conor
Ryan, the Carroll’s, Robert Kennedy,
Robert Bennett and Liam Meade etc. are
all being nurtured by the club coaches
for the coming years
Sadness
The club recently lost a stalwart from the
coaching fraternity with the passing of a
former coaching pillar, Seamus Kavan-
agh (R.I.P). Seamus trained Athletes at
Cross Country and in Track & Field
where he specialised in the Discus. He
was a great exponent of the All Ireland
Track & Field League and saw it as a
means of giving all Athletes a chance
(over 16). We again extend sympathy to
his entire family, but in particular his
granddaughter Rebecca who at under-9
is also an up and coming Athlete.
Appreciation
The survival and success of the past forty
years did not happen by chance. The
hard work of the Coaches, Trainers,
Committee, Track Development Com-
mittee, Fundraisers and helpers (in all
and many capacities) have all teamed up
to earn success and good name the club
now holds throughout the land. Every-
one, past and present can claim part of
the success that Templemore Athletic
Club has become.
A ‘Thank You’ also to all our Sponsors
and Donors, both in public and in private
who have also played a key role in the
clubs path to success.
Please God we can all soldier together to
continue on the pathway to further suc-
cess in the coming year.
Certainly this Club leaves an impression
on the heart and soul of the local com-
munity and indeed further afield, the
memories which neither time nor cir-
cumstance shall ever eradicate.

Limerick City and County Council
has given its planning approval for
the conversion of a former industri-
al unit near the University of Lim-
erick at Plassey into film studios.
The new ‘Troy Studios” will cover
about 16,700sq m.
Already a number of film-makers
in the US has indicated their will-
ingness to use the new studios. It is
estimated that up to 500 people —
350 full-time and 150 part-time
will be employed in skills areas
such as hair and make-up, digital
animation, and film production.
Templemore College of Further
Education provides targeted pro-
grammes that enable students be-
come job-ready for careers in the
film industry including Make-up
Artistry, Hairdressing, Digital Me-
dia, and Film and TV Production.
Noel Colleran Ph.D., principal of
the College sees the development
of Troy Studios as significant of an
appreciation of the durable em-
ployment opportunities associated
with the film industry. He went on
to say ‘I am satisfied that Tem-
plemore College is responding to
these new opportunities by provid-
ing excellent programmes associat-
ed with the film industry to ensure
our students progress into employ-
ment with confidence in their abili-
ties and skills to be successful’. He
continued, ‘there may be students
who have just completed their
leaving cert. or indeed more mature
students, who feel that this is the
career path for them, and if so there
is still a number of places available
on these, and other programmes in
the College’. A full list of pro-
grammes is accessible at

With your Events and

dreds of events across Ireland
and overseas. From nation’s
capital to county town, every-
one’s getting involved and The
Source Arts Centre is opening
its doors until late on Friday 16
September for an evening of
free entertainment and birthday
celebrations for you, your fam-
ily and friends to enjoy. The
Source is 10 years old this au-
tumn!
This year The Source Arts
Centre celebrates its 10th birth-
day celebrations on Culture
Night. As part of the annual
outpouring celebrating the
Arts, the night commences
with the official launch of Tip-
perary based artist Sheenagh
Geoghegan’s exhibition ‘Sto-
ma’. Sheenagh graduated with
a BA in Fine Art (Painting
Dept) from the Crawford Col-
lege of Art in 2003. In 2013
she completed an MFA at The
Slade School of Art, University
College London where she was
awarded the Stanford Scholar-
ship, The Orpen Award and
The Charles Heath Hayward
Award. For her project at The
Source Arts Centre, she looks
to investigate space and objects
‘as archives of experience’ in
terms of their ability to tap into
our collective sense of disori-
entation and disquietude.
Later on in the night and cele-
brating more Tipp’ talent,
Thurles musician Diarmuid
Sutton performs his new album
‘It Is What It Is’. While living
in Galway, Diarmuid met The
Stunning's drummer Cormac
Dunne when his car broke
down after a gig. Giving him a
lift home, Diarmuid and Cor-
mac got talking about Féile in
Thurles and the great bands of
the 90’s. Diarmuid played
some of his own music for
Cormac and the drummer
agreed to record it with him in
studio. Galway bassist John
O'Dwyer joined them that
week, and the rest is history.
Support acts and lots more free

The current Miss Tipperary, Niamh Kennedy, is
organising an event as a fundraiser for The
Alzheimer Society of Ireland on Saturday 17th
September. The event
takes place in, Larkins
Bar & Restaurant,
Garrykennedy, where
Niamh also works, from
5pm to 8pm and beyond!
There will be live music,
a BBQ, face painting for
kids and a prize raffle
with plenty of amazing
prizes.
Niamh was crowned Miss
Tipperary back in May of this year in the Aherlow
House Hotel. She will represent Co. Tipperary in
Miss Ireland on the 23rd of this month and possibly
go on to Miss World in Washington DC later this
year if crowned Miss Ireland.
Niamh told the Tipp Tatler why she is organising this
event in aid of The Alzheimer Society "The 'Beauty
with a Purpose' is a very important part of the Miss
World organization. With this in mind I have decided
to hold a fundraiser in aid of The Alzheimer Society
of Ireland. This charity is very close to my heart as
several family members, including my Father, have
passed away from the disease.
My dad was diagnosed in 2001 at just 42 years old.
In the years following, a brother and sister were also
diagnosed. My fundraiser will be in memory of all
members of my family that have passed away from
the disease."
Entry will be free to the event with charges for the
food and raffle tickets. All proceeds are going
directly to The Alzheimers Society.
Miss Tipperary Holding
Fundraiser in Garrykennedy
for Alzheimer Society A Jewellery Exhibition by Eileen
Hassett, Jewellery Designer and
Goldsmith, in the Templemore Li-
brary which ran during August has
been extended until September
15th. A beautiful collection of
necklaces and earrings which she
created, is on display in the library.
She decided to host the exhibition
locally after a successful exhibition
in the School of Jewellery in July.
Her interest in jewellery has always
been there, so she decided to act on
this passion and started with a course in Tem-
plemore College, before going on to complete
other courses in Colaiste Mhuire in Thurles.
Joining students both from Ireland and abroad,
she studied at the Grennan Mill Craft School in
Thomastown, an important centre for the study
of crafts, before doing further studies with the
Thurles Chamber and then the School of Jewel-
lery Ireland.
Drawing inspiration from letters written by her
late father Donal Clarke who was the founder
of Clarkes Hardware in Templemore, she has
entitled her exhibition “A Dancing Master”.
Having an interest in her family history, she
discovered the letters which were written for a
competition in 1937. One such letter was about
the “Dancing Man”, which was a dancing pup-
pet type figure
which fea-
tured at fairs.
This and the
other letters
can be seen on
www.duchas.
ie in the
School’s Col-
lection section under ‘Mr. Clarke,
homemade toys’.
Included in the necklaces Eileen
has created, is the Dancing Man
which has blue and gold precious
stones Citroen and Topaz, and the
Irish Dancing Cailin which has red
and green precious stones, Peridot
and Garnet.
While the “Dancing Man” is one
of her collections exhibited, the
other two are
“Square Peg in a Round
Hole”, which illustrates how
we don’t always fit in, and
the “Native Indian Collec-
tion”, an idea which was in-
spired by a trip to Salt Lake
City with a group from Jim
of the Mills.
Eileen, who also runs a business dealing with
uniforms and ladies fashions, will run her exhi-
bition at Templemore Library for the month of
August. Opening times at the Library are Mon-
day to Wednesday
10am-1pm & 2pm-
5.30pm, Thursday

Counselling
By Jim O’Shea
- Anxiety
(continued from previous issue)
Here are a few more hints on how to
deal with severe separation anxiety,
again offered by HELPGUIDE.org –
Educate yourself about separation
anxiety disorder. If you learn about
how your child experiences this
disorder, you can more easily
sympathize with his or her struggles.
Listen to and respect your child’s
feelings. For a child who might
already feel isolated by his or her
disorder, the experience of being
listened to can have a powerful
healing effect.
Talk about the issue. It is healthier
for children to talk about their
feelings. Be empathetic, but also
remind the child that he or she
survived the last separation.
Reduce your own stress. Children
are like sponges. They absorb all our
feelings including our stress. By
reducing your own stress, you ease
the atmosphere in the home, and
convey a sense of peace and calm to
your child. This is a really important
point.
Anticipate separation difficulty. Be
ready for transition points that can
cause anxiety for your child, such as
going to school or meeting with
friends to play. If your child
separates from one parent more
easily than the other, have that parent
take the child to school or to meet the
friends.
Provide a consistent pattern for the
day. The importance of certainty
for children with separation anxiety
problems is vital. If your family’s
schedule is going to change, discuss
it ahead of time with your child.
Set limits. Let your child know that
although you understand his or her
feelings, there are rules in your
household that need to be followed.
Offer choices. If your child is given
a choice or some element of control
in an activity or interaction with an
adult, he or she may feel more safe
and comfortable.
Keep calm during separation. If
your child sees that you can stay
cool, he or she is more likely to be
calm, too.
Support the child's participation in
activities. Encourage your child to
participate in healthy social and
physical activities.
Help a child who has been absent
from school return as quickly as
possible. Even if a shorter school day
is necessary initially, children's
symptoms are more likely to
decrease when they discover that
they can survive the separation.
Praise your child’s efforts. Use the
smallest of accomplishments—going
to bed without a fuss, a good report
from school—as reason to give your
child positive reinforcement.
Communicate with your child’s
school. Ask the Principal to allow
leeway for a time about punctuality,
so that the pressure on the child is
eased. If your child has been absent,
reintroduce him or her gradually to
school.
Communication with home. Ensure
that the child has the opportunity to
make a short phone call home to get
reassurance.
Using school support staff.
Cutbacks have affected the number
of support staff, but the use of a
Guidance Counsellor can be very
helpful for children suffering from
Separation Anxiety Disorder.
Kidshealth.org offer a range of
suggestions about books that may
help you to reassure your children.
These include The Good-Bye Book
by Judith Viorst, The Kissing Hand
by Audrey Penn, Even if I Spill My
Milk? By Anita Grossnickle Hines
and Benjamin Comes Back by Amy
Brandt.

Dear Heart of Jesus, I ask You this very
special favour (mention one). Take it
Dear Heart of Jesus and place it within
Your own broken heart where Your Fa-
ther sees it. Then in His merciful eyes it
will become Your favour, not mine.
Amen. Say this prayer for 3 consecutive
days, promise publication and favour will
be granted. Never known to fail. M.C.
