INDIAN HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICAL
ASSOCIATION
2. Introduction
Indian Homoeopathic Medical Association is a national platform of Indian homoeopaths is relentless in its efforts to raise the
standards of homoeopathic education & practice in India.
IHMA serve the human society by awarding the benefits of homoeopathic system of treatment to public, especially the low
socio-economic groups by conducting regular medical camps and fight to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession. It
has fought tooth and nail many absurd decisions of the authorities concerned and this way gained maximum acceptance
among the homoeopathic community which is evident from the growth it achieved along the length and breadth of India.
Since its inception, IHMA took firm stand against the corruption and nepotism that were prevalent in the Central Council of
Homoeopathy at the time. The corruptions were so gross that there were even vigilance cases against some of the top office
bearers of the CCH. As a result of the complaints filed by the IHMA before the enquiry commission led by honorable Justice
Usha Verma, the then CCH was replaced by elected members.
3. History
IHMA -the pioneer organization of elite homoeopaths of India came into being on April 2004 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala as
the leaders of KHMGA, the forerunner of IHMA felt the need for a national platform to fight the malignancies curbing the
growth of homoeopathy- the scientific system of medicine. Within a short span after its formation, IHMA has stamped its
presence in the Indian homoeopathic scenario. IHMA was relentless in its efforts to raise the standards of homoeopathic
practice and education in India.
IHMA protested strongly against the practice of National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkota in announcing their MD entrance
examination notification in local Bengali dailies only and thereby denying the opportunities of candidates from other states. As
a sequel, Union health Minister and Vice Chancellor of Kolkota university intervened in the matter and directed the NIH to
withdraw the earlier notification and then to publish once again the notification in all leading dailies of the nation.
In Kerala, IHMA played pivotal roles in many issues concerning Homoeopathy in state like appointment of tutors in Govt.
Homoeopathic Medical Colleges, Allocation of new MD courses etc. Kerala Govt. Homoeo Medical Officers’ Association- a
sister concern of IHMA enjoys the representation of more than 95% of the Govt. Homoeo Medical officers of Kerala.
IHMA is the only organization in India which fights against fake courses like External MD & External PhD in homeopathy.
Because of the constant agitation of IHMA, authorities has frozen OTC rule & short term courses to MBBS holders. We started

conduct and promote research in Homoeopathic system of medicine by formulating parameters of, supporting and conducting
active research in homoeopathy. We also aim to fund worthwhile research projects with the help of like minded supporting
groups and persons.
Objectives
1.Conduction of research in Homoeopathic system of medicine
2.Formulation of parameters for medical research in Homoeopathy
3.Epidemiological survey of different diseases to find out the most suitable medicine (genus epidemics) for prevention and
eradication of these diseases
4.Collection of statistical data of the incidence and cure rate of specific diseases
5.Conduction of health awareness programs especially in AIDS, Diarrheal diseases, Viral epidemics, Type I / Class A personality

IHRC Accredited Clinics & Hospitals
Homoeopathic Institutions are given accreditation by IHRC which pass the criteria and standards required by us. Theses
centers can also work as accredited research centers to undertake research and other clinical studies under the supervision of
IHRC. After due inspection by our expert panel, according to the facilities two types of Accreditation are given out by IHRC.
Those premises satisfying the full standards of IHRC gets A Grade Accreditation and those satisfying minimum standards is
given a B Grade Accreditation. Both the accreditation is valid for a period of three years after which a re-assessment is done.
Those premises awarded with IHRC Accreditation can display the Accreditation Certificate in their institutions. The fee for
accreditation/re-assessment is R1000/- (one thousand rupees only).
8. Recent accomplishments
IHRC played an important role in the control of viral fever epidemics in Kerala in recent years. Timely intervention in the form
early case identification, case studies and finding genus epidemcius from IHRC and IHMA had helped to curtail many
unnecessary morbidity and mortality. In other states too IHRC provides timely advice to seasonal diseases and other epidemic
outbreaks. One important project of IHRC was the retrospective study on the efficacy of preventive medicines in
Chickunguniya (in the Kerala outbreak) conducted in association with the community medicine department of Govt.
Homoeopathic Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. The results and suggestions were submitted before the Hon. Minister
for Health and Family Welfare for Kerala at the venue of 3rd annual conference of IHMA Kerala state. We have conducted a
two day’s research work shop in 2007 that was widely appreciated as the most modern and cost effective event in
Homoeopathic Research till now. The fruits of that work shop are already started unfolding.
Forthcoming projects
IHRC is planning a few milestone activities in the field of Homoeopathic Research. Case control studies, Double Blind Clinical
Trials, Publication of Homoeopathic Research, Activities aiming at Standardization of Homoeopathy are a few of them. IHRC is
also planning to conduct more workshops and seminars in the coming years.

IHMA School of Homoeopathy proposes a comprehensive course package, imparting meticulous personnel training for
cultivating the necessary skills which are essential for effective Homoeopathic practice. This certificate course, Basic training
program in the practice of Homoeopathy incorporated theoretical and clinical training of topmost standards at renowned
centers in Kerala. This course will boost the morale of each and every participant. Development of any science is based solely
upon its academic growth potential comprising scientific research. Homoeopathy though emerging as the forerunner amongst
allied sciences at present, research in Homoeopathy stands relatively dormant over the past two centuries.
Homoeopathy having its roots in Germany flourished in India soon after its introduction. Homoeopathic education however
was confined to the certificate courses to propagate Homoeopathy as conceived by the erstwhile practitioners. A systematic
curriculum was designed only as late after the constitution of the Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) in 1971. However,
Homoeopathic education worldwide is a specialization requiring a basic degree in medicine. The diploma and degree courses
were conceptualized to impart adequate knowledge in the field of medicine and Homoeopathy. The first degree college in
India was commissioned in the year 1975 at Kozhikode, Kerala with subsequent introduction of P.G. Courses in 1991.
Homoeopathic education in India even after three decades of its materialization has failed however to propagate the science.
Homoeopathic medicines and their action have proved their mettle over the years, despite the stagnation of academics at
present. A revival at the academic front is the need of the hour. A rejuvenated curriculum is to be deployed such that students
11. of this true healing art are well equipped in the present era. The present day ambassadors of Homoeopathic education in India
however stand inadequate. These kingpins, capable of upgrading the educational standards unfortunately are least disturbed
by the debate of Homoeopathic education. Their vested interests alone are the bane of Homoeopathic Medical Education. The
fracas created over the extension of the external PG and the attempts to equalize it with regular M.D. Course stand
testimonial to the lack of vision of these self acclaimed stalwarts.
The ROTP (Reorientation training program) envisaged by the Dept. of AYUSH is in total disarray owing to the utopian ideas of
the office bearers of CCH. This training program had been devised to cater knowledge to the teaching fraternity. However, the
faculty of this program was left in the dark without proper direction as regards their deployment. The mode of selection of
these faculty and centers is quite hilarious, the faculty themselves unaware of what they have to teach. Such propaganda by
the so called elite has led to the deterioration of Homoeopathic education in the country.
The Govt. Homoeopathic Medical College, Calicut, the first degree college is at the verge of a downfall owing to the vested
interests of the present CCH members and their followers. The utter selfishness and ego of the authorities paved the way for
this degradation. This fiasco reflects directly upon the helpless student community who suffer this dogmatism. The timely
intervention by the state government by issuing orders to place the Principal under suspension has saved the institution for
the time being. The present scenario of Homoeopathic students in Kerala is pitiable.
The graduates of Homoeopathy are offered with P.G. Courses in three Homoeopathic subjects and that too in just a single
college. There are more than 200 Homoeopaths who graduate every year. Curtailing of the P.G. seats from the expected 42 to
9 is highly deplorable. The curriculum for the graduates is one which leaves the aspiring Homoeopaths dejected as he cannot
comprehend even the very principles laid down by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. The fresh graduates thereby are unable to
successfully practice Homoeopathy.
In these times of dejection and despondency, Indian Homoeopathic Medical Association (IHMA) alone offers a ray of hope.
IHMA has strived to usher in new ideas and programs to take Homoeopathic education and practice to a higher level such that
the fresh graduates are amply equipped to offer their service to the suffering humanity. IHMA stands for the aspiring
Homoeopaths. The research wing, Indian Homoeopathic Research Centre (IHRC) was constituted to act as a catalyst in the
higher education and research front and it has succeeded to a large extent in its endeavor.
12. The basic educational curriculum however needs to be revamped. The young Homoeopaths require effective guidance to
establish successful practice. IHMA aims to groom the Homoeopaths to be an efficient practitioner of the true healing art.
IHMA has charted out specific training programs for the fresh Homoeopaths understanding the dilemma faced by those who
have graduated from even the best institute of the country. IHMA School of Homoeopathy was conceived to empower and
enlighten the young Homoeopathic graduates. IHMA School of Homoeopathy proposes a Basic and Advanced Training
Program in the Practice of Homoeopathy to rejuvenate one and all.
The IHMA School of Homoeopathy is headed by the Managing Director, Dr. Praveen Raj. P. you may contact him through e-
mail at paleripraveen@gmail.com and to hear his voice, you may call at +919448483214.

15. Join IHMA: The national platform of Indian Homoeopaths
We do not have a single mouthpiece representing the qualified homoeopaths of the nation nor does we have common stands
or a common voice about multiple issues that keep popping up critical on Homoeopathy or at times misconceptions related to
Homoeopathy. At times when the nation desires to hear from an alternative medical system we deliver the same in the form
of peaky scattered voices instead of one from a central common source which is well attended to by the print and visual
media. Most of the serious developments at the national level related to Homoeopathy are mostly not the choice of the
younger and the middle generation of Homoeopathy who has whole-heartedly, unconditionally committed their career to this
therapeutic discipline, but those who spent a successful plight as Homoeopaths through times unlike the rough terrains of
today. Our choices, opinions and reasons were not never ever looked into or heard, nor were they ever considered.
The standardization and a perfect streamline and integration of the multiple approaches prevalent in Homoeopathy across the
nations under various schools of Homoeopathy led by powerful teachers of Homoeopathy are a vital priority. Their
contradicting and critical teaching does mean mayhem. Intolerance to other schools of Homoeopathy is unfortunate. This
indirectly speaks loud about the vacuum on a common platform which could integrate such schools and bring them to
absolute use for the generations of Homoeopaths ahead. This platform has to be a homoeopathic association with firm
presence across the nation which can be the mother of all and which will contain every qualified Homoeopath in its stream.
The Homoeopathic medical professionals in India, in multiple domains under state and central govt., in academics, govt. health
service and private practice are all poorly integrated though all carry similar basic qualifications. They are unfortunately too
well insulated between each other and a poor awareness about how things function within another stream especially when
related to research bodies and their activities is widely noticed. In effect each stream turn out an island of activity rarely
integrated and less informed about the other.
The effective achievements of Homoeopathic departments related to public service bodies as a part of the govt. in some states
could not be pushed to be adopted by other states due to the lack of a force of a more national or a central nature which
could access health departments of every state and convince them about the effective plight in those states where
Homoeopathy is well promoted at the govt. sectors, the best example being Kerala where almost every panchayat has a govt.
homoeopathic dispensary apart from the govt. district homoeopathic hospitals, the new NRHM clinics, and the collegiate
16. hospitals under the academic sector under govt. and private. Here we are talking about generation of thousands of govt. jobs
for qualified homoeopaths which gives them the freedom and the recognition from the society apart from the monetary
benefits. An association at the national level, compared to IMA to allopath could have re-written the fate of every
Homoeopath in this nation for sure. This is precisely where the further development & evolution of an existing association in
Homoeopathy which now holds a near national status by being present in 13 states get important.
IHMA has a well defined functionality at the chapter, district state and national level with working committees at state and
national levels. The IHRC, a research body under IHMA takes up the vast challenges in the field of Homoeopathic research and
often leads the activities when related to similar epidemic & pandemic outbreaks like that of today. The tri-monthly IHMA
Panorama at the national level and the monthly IHMA News at the state level has always been firm and efficient means of
communication with its members and a platform for propagating works related to research activities, drug studies, clinical
discussions & trials and almost anything connected to Homoeopathy in India and abroad.
