1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Prime Quest Energy South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Prime), is an emerging enterprise operating in the
energy savings space – more particular the savings driven by lighting solutions, in homes,
business and industrial facilities. The anchoring of the business is a Value Added Partnership
(VAP) relationship with Philips Lighting – the global lighting and technology leader. Philips is the
largest and most innovative lighting business in the world by market capital and market share. It
is also the most innovative in the realm of lighting technology.
Prime has been through a stringent accreditation and assessment process to qualify as a suitable
VAP for Philips to engage into a meaningful and long-term relationship. Prime is a Level 1 BEE
Contributor. In addition, Prime is owned and operated by entrepreneurs Ravi Naidoo and Mike
Stringer, who are both experienced businessman and involved in various enterprises and are
post-graduates holding amongst other qualifications MBAs in Business Leadership and
Sustainability from the University of Cumbria in the UK.
Prime has positioned itself to access public sector opportunity where projects are in-line with the
Presidential mandate to green the economy and reduce energy consumption and costs across all
State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and all governmental department and agencies. In addition, the
industrial sector of the economy shows large potential for savings and compliance with the
Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 (OSHA). All our solutions are designed against
the standards and prescriptions of the OSHA. Compliance is a core part of our culture at Prime.
The Hospital Sector (Public and Private) is also a focus area for Prime – with historic experience
in healthcare and the healthcare environment from both of its founders. Municipalities are a further
focus area within government-agencies as they largely own the streetlight networks in our towns
and cities as well as large legacy-building infrastructure. This is non-revenue generating
expenditure and can be drastically reduced.
The marketing objectives for Prime is to plant our value proposition within the customers who
make up these sectors and convince them of the value and benefit to themselves as end-users
from improved efficient lighting as well as cost reduction in operational expenditure, whilst also
being responsible energy-savvy corporate citizens. In addition to dealing with installations in
existing buildings, Prime is also present in the area of new electrification and new buildings as
South Africa increases infrastructure-spend.
The Prime offering is hugely empowered by the backing of the Philips Lighting global business
with its industry-leading technology, support and product warranties– coupled with Prime adding

the lighting experience and customer relationship management. This is a good forging to
establishing sustainable customer engagements. This is a win-win relationship for Philips and
Prime in our partnership to provide the best product, service and support to our client.
2. THE COMPANY – PRIME QUEST ENERGY

with infrastructure in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal and Western Cape Provinces.
2.1.1 Our Objectives
The objectives of Prime are to deliver energy efficient solutions to the market in the form of LED
lighting systems that reduce heat, costs and ultimately bring down electricity bills on the lighting

in a manner that facilitates ease of implementation and finance. In addition, we ensure more
efficient productive and aesthetically appealing work, social and recreational environments with
the highest quality lighting products from the World Number 1 lighting company – Philips. We

2.1.6 Unique Selling Point / Distinctiveness
Our USP is the ability to back the sales and marketing pitch with real warranties and guarantees
that ensure predictable peace of mind in the event of product performance defect. This is
supported by the brand equity of the largest industry player, with specified burning hours in our
warranty and time (3 to 5 years generally). Industry leading warranties ensures peace-of-mind for
our customers and increased reliability in our solutions. This affords us customer-satisfaction

solution. This is a unique service, concept and distribution channel in comparison to competitor
approaches to market. This averts the expensive task of contracting specialist engineers and
architects to perform these reviews. We are able to do this with the confidence of experts who
have an in-depth understanding of lighting.
3. THE RATIONALE BEHIND LED AND ENERGY SAVINGS
LED research and development has resulted in reliable and bankable technology that provides
safe and predictable usage, whilst affording users cost-savings from Day 1. This makes for a
sound logical proposition as to why businesses and public environments should make the change
to the all-round more efficient technology.
3.1 SOCIO-CULTURAL
The socio-cultural trend has been to be more aware and compliant in terms of savvy energy
consumption. The cultural trend has been to reduce household and business monthly expenditure
and electricity costs is a meaningful part of this as we face increased energy costs from state
producer Eskom. We seek to harvest this trend and further stimulate the awareness and ease of
access to implementation in industry.
3.2 TECHNOLOGICAL
The product from Philips Lighting is technologically superior in its engineering and design and
technology plays a large role in this sector. In addition, Prime adopts technology to reduce fixed
overheads, create a modern and empowered team and to be a disruptive business in this sector.

Our approach is agile and focused, without needing to use multiple product vendors as Philips
offers the most comprehensive lighting range in the world.
3.3 ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
The increased prominence of environmental legislation, global pressure around planetary
pollution and renewable energies has resulted in global trends towards carbon-credit monitoring
and compliance. The industrial environment is becoming more accountable and more committed
to impacting positively on the road ahead.
The COP-22 carbon-tax and its imminent adherence by Multinational Companies and signatory
nations, is further incentive for industrial players to move to greener solutions at all levels of their
operations. South Africa ranks highly on the global per capita carbon emissions radar. (See Figure

3.4 PUBLIC POLICY AND LEGISLATION
The previous ESKOM and Energy-Savings incentives by the Department of Energy (DoE), has
been replaced with a tax-credit offering from the South African Revenue Services (SARS). SARS
- in terms of Section 12 (c), (i) and (l) offer rebates based on the kilowatt-hours (kWh) saved in a
calendar year, as a result of investment into more efficient energy solutions. This includes lighting
and Prime is able to offer this statutory benefit as a turnkey solution via our SANAS Accredited
Measurement and Verification (M & V) process. This rewards businesses who invest in capital
expenditure that relieves the pressure on the national grid. This also applies to our Solar product
range. We are supporters of this approach.
In addition, the OSH Act places specific LUX Level requirements on office and industry to comply
with. Non-Compliance with these stipulations can result in expensive law suites and escalation in
vocational injuries. Compliance to the Act is compulsory and a key part of good corporate and
social governance Poor lighting has prejudicial impact for workforce-wellbeing.

The cultural trend has been to reduce household and business monthly expenditure and electricity costs is a meaningful part of this as we face increased energy costs from state producer Eskom. We seek to harvest this trend and further stimulate the awareness and ease of access to implementation in industry. 3.2 TECHNOLOGICAL The product from Philips Lighting is technologically superior in its engineering and design and technology plays a large role in this sector. In addition, Prime adopts technology to reduce fixed overheads, create a modern and empowered team and to be a disruptive business in this sector.

GLOBAL CARBON EMISSIONS 3.4 PUBLIC POLICY AND LEGISLATION The previous ESKOM and Energy-Savings incentives by the Department of Energy (DoE), has been replaced with a tax-credit offering from the South African Revenue Services (SARS). SARS - in terms of Section 12 (c), (i) and (l) offer rebates based on the kilowatt-hours (kWh) saved in a calendar year, as a result of investment into more efficient energy solutions. This includes lighting and Prime is able to offer this statutory benefit as a turnkey solution via our SANAS Accredited Measurement and Verification (M & V) process. This rewards businesses who invest in capital expenditure that relieves the pressure on the national grid. This also applies to our Solar product range. We are supporters of this approach. In addition, the OSH Act places specific LUX Level requirements on office and industry to comply with. Non-Compliance with these stipulations can result in expensive law suites and escalation in vocational injuries. Compliance to the Act is compulsory and a key part of good corporate and social governance Poor lighting has prejudicial impact for workforce-wellbeing. 4.
