INFRASTRUCTURE
Broadband
• Continue To Gather and Map Local Assets
• Three vendors with successful implementation track records in other states wish to expand to
Virginia and are putting a plan together to present to local governments
• Assist our localities and region build a multi-purpose network serving all public needs
(schools, public safety, governmental operations) in a “budget neutral” manner
Climate, Environmental and Readiness (CLEAR)
• Community forum held at UMW with 35 community leaders identified regional concerns about
environmental degradation, crisis planning, preservation of regional resources and economic and
environmental resilience
• Developing a program to enhance energy conservation activities for vulnerable or under-
served populations
• Surveying changes in agricultural land use
Regional Transportation
• Educated FRCC members and the community on transportation issues w/ published
articles and public speaking opportunities
• Maintained an active presence at FAMPO and VDOT Public Meetings
• Engaged in continuous dialogue with our CTB representative(s)
• Posted letters to the Governor, CTB, VDOT, FAMPO and our General Assembly Delegation
regarding support of our transportation priorities
9. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
• Continue to offer assistance to FredXchange, a non-profit group organized to build an
entrepreneurial ecosystem. FredXchange is also responsible for organizing Startup
Weekend and partnering with Germanna Community College to offer workshops.
• Assisting in setting up colocation space and in the development of other programs to
be identified in the near future.
Regional Information System – “Connect the Dots”
• Provide the basis for public/private partnerships to develop:
Regional Economic Development Toolkit
Regional Online Job Board
Regional STEM Resources and Opportunities Database
• Simventions is providing the software (originally developed for our armed forces),
technology and training support Simventions will license the software free of charge to
the University of Mary Washington.
• The University of Mary Washington will provide the team that will work with
community organizations to both collect and maintain the regional information and
develop the desired reports and queries.
• The Fredericksburg Regional Alliance will provide the access point to Connect the Dots
through their website.
