2. Global Soil Partnership activities
5 key pillars
1. Promote sustainable management of soil resources for soil protection, conservation and
sustainable productivity (Several national projects e.g. KCEP, KCSAP, etc.; tree planting)
2. Encourage investment, technical cooperation, policy, education awareness and extension in
soil (KCSAP, etc.)
3. Promote targeted soil research and development focusing on identified gaps and priorities
and synergies with related productive, environmental and social development actions
(KCSAP, KCEP, etc.)
4. Enhance the quantity and quality of soil data and information: data collection (generation),
analysis, validation, reporting, monitoring and integration with other disciplines (KCSAP,
etc.)
5. Harmonization of methods, measurements and indicators for the sustainable management
and protection of soil resources (KALRO -NARL Soil Labs through GLOSOLAN)
3. Activities in 2019-2020
• Member of the Global Soil Network; Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN)
and African Soil Laboratory Network (AFRILAB)
• KALRO Kabete Labs (NARL) serve as the National Reference Soil Laboratory
• In 2019-2020 Kenya participated in:-
Providing data to support global carbon map
Providing standard operating procedures for evaluation of soil chemical, physical
and biological properties at NARL. These will be used to prepare harmonized soil
laboratory procedures/methods (GLOSOLAN)
Participating in global soil analysis quality control exchange programme (WEPAL)
Submitted our needs for equipment and capacity building; GLOSOLAN is in the
process of procuring a Flame photometer for the National Reference Soil Lab
Reached out to other soil labs in the country
Participated in the 2nd meeting International Network on Fertiliser Analysis (INFA) on
June 29-30, 2021
