HUMANITARIAN MISSION TO IRAN
Following the large earthquake in Bam, Iran in December 2003, I was requested
to lead a team, which consisted of nursing staff and EMTs (emergency medical
technicians). This group was attached to the military field hospital of the Saudi
Arabian National Guard. Initially we airlifted the seriously injured from Bam to
Kerman and then we set up a Primary Health Care Facility in Bam. My main
areas of responsibility were:
- Running and maintaining the ICU within the field hospital.
- Providing a practice nurse clinic where I dealt with post-traumatic
injuries which were then triaged to the appropriate facilities or were
dealt with in the clinic.
