Options for dashDB & DB2
on Cloud
Jennifer Chen, IBM,
IBM Employee
dashDB is a fully-managed, self-service data warehouse in the cloud that puts powerful analytics at your
fingertips. DB2 on Cloud is a flexible hosted offering that keeps management of the database environment in
the hands of the DBA. Regardless of the service being used, one of the first tasks you’ll have is getting your
data into the database and there are various options available to do that. In this session you’ll learn about
the different options for data loading and movement, when to use them, and best practices. Staging your data
in a cloud-based storage like SoftLayer Object Storage (Swift) or Amazon S3 will also be covered.

Implementing High
Availability and Disaster
Recovery for DB2 on Cloud
Kelly Schlamb, IBM,
IBM Employee
IBM’s DB2 on Cloud offering gives you everything you know and love about DB2 for LUW in a cloud-based
packaging of infrastructure and software. Benefits include rapid provisioning for instant productivity and
monthly subscription-based licensing. Like with DB2 on-premises, there are various options available for high
availability and disaster recovery. In this session you’ll learn how to setup HADR for both HA and DR
purposes between DB2 on Cloud servers. DB2 on Cloud is also a great DR option for your on-premises DB2
databases and this configuration will also be discussed in detail. Other strategies, including how to backup and
restore databases using cloud-based storage (SoftLayer Object Storage and Amazon S3) will also be covered.

Migration of DB2 from 9.7
to 11.1 in preparation for
the cloud
Chris Godfrey, IBM,
IBM Employee;
Kimberly Floss, PepsiCo,
Client
PepsiCo and IBM will discuss the migration they choose to take when upgrading their SAP ECC environment
from DB2 9.7 to v11.1 by using CDC to minimize down time. Come see how PepsiCo prepares their
environment to move step by step from v9.7 to 11.1 to DB2 hybrid cloud.

Using IBM DB2 BLU V11.1
for SAP BW - High
Scalability and
Performance
Improvements
Karl Fleckenstein and
Brigitte Blaeser, IBM
Deutschland R&D
GmbH, IBM Employee
In this session, we will give an overview how the new DB2 V11.1 BLU technology extensions are seamlessly
integrated into SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW). Very fast SAP BW query processing on very large BW
objects with billions of records is the major benefit of DB2 BLU for SAP BW. Among the highlights, we will
demonstrate how the new BLU MPP option allows large SAP BW system scalability. We will show that the
usage of new DB2 V11.1 OLAP functions allows additional function push-down from the SAP BW application
server into the DB2 database server. This improves SAP BW query performance up to many factors. Finally,
learn best practices to run SAP BW on DB2 V11.1 most efficiently.

IBM Data Server Manager
in a diverse user
environment
Ben Lenard, Argonne
National Laboratory ,
Client
In most corporate organizations, Windows is the dominant platform for developers, DBA’s, System
administrators, and users. At Argonne National Laboratory, the desktop OS'es range from Mac, SLES, Ubuntu,
RHEL, Debian, and Windows. That being said, I arrived in an environment where developers and users either
solely used the DB2 CLI or they were forced into running Windows within a VM so that they can use IBM Data
Studio. IBM DataServer Manager has allowed me to engage the developers and users so that we can get the
most benefit out of our DB2 LUW investment while producing better code. DSM has allowed me to create a
self-service environment so that developers can understand their code.

Getting the Most Out of
BLU: DB2 BLU Best
Practices for SAP Systems
Olaf Depper, IBM, IBM
Employee; Andreas
Christian, IBM, IBM
Employee
This session summarizes the lessons learned from recent DB2 BLU conversion projects. It explains how to
configure DB2 BLU databases for optimal performance. This affects both the DB2 configuration, like the sizing
of DB2 memory consumers to make sure all active data fits into memory, but also the application
configuration, like which tables/objects to convert to BLU. We will also look at the different approaches to
convert systems to DB2 BLU and what can be done to accelerate conversion times and to minimize conversion
downtime.

DB2 LUW pureScale -
taking high available
scalability to a public Cloud
Thomas Rech, IBM, IBM
Employee; Martin
Heitkämper, arvato
Systems GmbH, Client
When running software in a public Cloud environment it’s always about easy scalability, e.g. for web
services or DaaS. But what, if your legacy application can’t use DaaS but still needs reliability of its
database and the Cloud provider even does not guarantee availability of VMs? This is where DB2 pureScale
comes in. Join the rollercoaster ride towards a scalable and high available DB2 database in a public Cloud
environment and see, what’s possible and which problems had to be solved on the way.

Tummala, Standard
Charter Bank, Client
Data availability is a key requirement for many critical database applications. IBM DB2 provides many features
to meet this requirement. In this session, we will go thru an array of features that deal with DB2 Availability.
We will also examine a case study of one global banking client, Standard Chartered Bank, who has effectively
integrated DB2 technology, such as DB2 HADR Reads-On-Standby and Federation, extensively to improve the
availability and performance of their core-banking and internet banking platform. Allowing the bank to
consistently meet business SLA's and improved performance with having database resources more available

Hybrid Cloud Data
Management with DB2
and dashDB
Jennifer Chen, IBM,
IBM Employee
The recently released DB2 for LUW V11.1 is the foundation for hybrid cloud database deployments. In
addition to it being available to install on cloud-based infrastructure (through a bring-your-own-license
approach – which now includes monthly DB2 Direct licensing) it is also the foundation of IBM’s DB2 on
Cloud and dashDB cloud data service offerings. With a common SQL engine you can write once and run
anywhere. Learn more about these different options and when you’d want to choose one over another.
Considerations such as type of workload, hosted versus managed, and simplicity versus flexibility are
explored. New flavors of dashDB, such as dashDB for transactions and dashDB Local will also be covered.

This session covers both DB2 for z/OS and DB2 for LUW and addresses data loading and interoperability across data repositories, wherever they reside. Tuesday 5 – 5:45pm 1052Inter. IBM Data Server Manager in a diverse user environment Ben Lenard, Argonne National Laboratory , Client In most corporate organizations, Windows is the dominant platform for developers, DBA’s, System administrators, and users. At Argonne National Laboratory, the desktop OS'es range from Mac, SLES, Ubuntu, RHEL, Debian, and Windows. That being said, I arrived in an environment where developers and users either solely used the DB2 CLI or they were forced into running Windows within a VM so that they can use IBM Data Studio. IBM DataServer Manager has allowed me to engage the developers and users so that we can get the most benefit out of our DB2 LUW investment while producing better code. DSM has allowed me to create a self-service environment so that developers can understand their code.
