2. 1. Introduction;
Definition of terms;
Research
• Research is a process of systematic inquiry that entails collection
of data; documentation of critical information; and analysis and
interpretation of that data/information, in accordance with
suitable methodologies set by specific professional fields and
academic disciplines.
• Research is conducted to evaluate the validity of a hypothesis or
an interpretive framework; to assemble a body of substantive
knowledge and findings for sharing them in appropriate manners;
and to generate questions for further inquiries
3. Research findings;
•These are principal outcomes of a research
project; what the research suggested,
revealed or indicated.
•This usually refers to the totality of
outcomes, rather than the conclusions or
recommendations drawn from them.
4. 2. List of forms of presenting/presenting
research findings;
Oral presentations
•An oral presentation is a formal, research-based
presentation of the research findings and
information.
•Research findings can be presented in for instance,
at a company assignments and on projects, the
project team might give an oral presentation
regarding the progress on a particular project.
5. Oral cont…
• Same applied to a non-profit organization that hosts an annual
meeting at which the organization shares its activities, budget,
and goals with funders and community members, the oral
presentation can be delivered to present the information/findings.
• The format for an oral scientific presentation is essentially the
same as that of scientific paper
• The presentation may include the following sections:
introduction, theoretical review, methodology, results,
discussions, conclusion, recommendations and
acknowledgments.
6. Oral cont….
•The oral presentations of research findings can be done
through one to one conferences, press conferences,
radio/TV, video conferences andWebinar
8. Written paper presentations
• The written paper presentation is the dissemination of the
information through writings.
• The research findings are presented through research reports in
hard and electronic media, peer reviewed papers, a book,
chapter in book, policy briefs and press releases.
• However, through this presentation visual aids like images,
graphs and pie charts, tables, maps and photographs can draw
audiences’ attention, therefore they should be included in the
written document presented.
9. Written cont…
• Hard and electronic media (including tablets) may be used to
display the written paper presentations.
• Examples of written research reports
10. Posters presentations;
• Poster presentations of findings contains the same basic
information as other forms of presentations but the information
are arranged on one large sheet.
• The information are presented in blocks of texts, pictures, figures
graphics, and research summaries.
• To researchers, the visual has always been a vital part of fieldwork
investigation. It is simply the forms and formats the representation
and presentation of visual data that have evolved over these
decades. (Miles et al 2014).
13. 3. The Pros and Cons of forms of
dissemination research findings;
Pros Cons
Time and cost saving; for example, when
action is required to be taken immediately it
is the best to transmit an information orally.
Not much resource required for it to be
presented.
In oral presentations the information are difficult to
record for the future.
It is more powerful mode of presentation.
Through oral presentation the presenter can
persuade and clarify more on the subject
matter.
Probability of omitting main subject; sometimes main
subject may be omitted in the research findings.
14. Oral pros and cons cont…
Pros
It is more flexible; the demand of situations and
instructions can be changed easily. If any error is
expressed it is easy to rectify, thus it allows
improvements.
Cons
Inaccuracy; sometimes there is the possibility of
the inaccurate information /findings to reach the
destination.
15. Written presentation
Pros Cons
Easy presentation of complex matter; the written
report is the best way to present the complex
matter easily and attractive. Through written
presentation on can accurately and clearly
present findings/information. There is less
misinterpretations on the findings written.
The written reports are expensive and time
consuming. It is time consuming media for both
the writer and the reader. There is no direct
relation between the writer and the reader.
16. Written cont…
Pros
Easy to preserve and they are permanent record; the
written reports lasts for a long period of time, when
important information needed can be easily
collected form the preserved documents.
Cons
Useless for non targeted audience; the written
reports focus only the targeted audience who wants
the information/findings.
The written reports can also be used as a reference
when needed.
Delay in response; written reports takes much time
to get responses, obviously decision makers cannot
take decision quickly.
17. Poster presentations
Pros Cons
Visual attraction; thus it transmit the findings easily
to the targeted audience.
Difficult to make corrections/adaptations; once a
poster is printed it is less flexible to make
corrections.
The poster presents itself, the presence of the
author is not necessary.
Time consuming; in terms of preparing, it
consumes a lot of time designing the presentation
of findings
18. Poster cont…
Pro
Poster simplify presentation because it reach a
broader audience when compared to the a
presentation limited time
Cons
Not always easy to select which content to display on
a poster presentation. It requires a reduced content as
well as getting in the point
The poster can present a large number of findings in
one poster presentation.
It is expensive in terms of time and resources.
19. 4. Suggestions on how to make use of
research findings
• Research findings can introduce new concepts. The researchers
can generate new concepts about the certain issue through the
research findings. The findings gives the target audience a room
to get the knowledge of new concepts.
• The research findings can be used as the catalyst to broaden the
understandings about the kind of solutions to be considered and
most appropriate to pursue. There might be a vast of solutions
to the problems but not knowing which re the better solutions,
therefor through research findings the audience may be able to
recognise which are the better solutions to their problems
20. Suggestions cont…
•The findings can also enable the audience to see the
problem they didn’t see before or to see a problem in a
different perspective/angle.
•However, research findings can also provide framework
to guide actions. They are potentially powerful way to
inform policy strengths and weaknesses.
21. 5. Observations
• Usually the presentation of research findings consists of detailed
information about the research problem for the target audience.
The three forms of research findings presentations complement
one another to produce a strong dissemination plan.
• In many cases, the work that goes in the development of one form
can be replicated or modified into the development of another.
• Increasing the number of ways that research findings reach key
audiences increases the chances of uptake and action. Under the
presentations forms; the tools considered will include, research
reports, peer review papers, press releases, and policy briefs.
22. 6. Conclusion;
• Presenting research findings is as important as conducting it,
because this is how the target audience will be able to understand
the procedures discuss results, offer feedback and take the work
further for decision making process.
• Various dissemination forms and tools are available to research
teams pursuing the uptake of research findings.
• Each dissemination form has different strengths and weaknesses
in reaching audiences and therefore for effective end results the
researcher may be using more than one form and tools.
23. Concl. Cont…
•All these forms and tools should be considered less as
individual pieces and more as parts of a whole. They
should be used in concert within a larger plan that
together produces a complete effective dissemination
package.
