International Network for Simulation-based Pediatric Innovation, Research and Education
• In the case of neurological assessment, it is important that
learners understand the steps to examination and the symptoms
or complaints that are warning signs. The parents and clinicians
of children with shunt failure should recognize serious signs and
symptoms and choose the correct action when identification of
critical signs and symptoms occur. Indeed, parent and clinicians
should know what is normal and abnormal, how to explain what
they observe and take correct action.

VP shunt
• Intervention: Serious game with simulation – mobile app.
• Control/Comparison: Traditional education
• Outcome(s): Measurable usability, engagement and
effectiveness of learning in parents and clinicians.

• Evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the Serious Game
with a group of approximately xx parents or guardians of
affected children and approximately yy pediatric nurses who
could potentially be required to recognize VPS failure.

  • 2. • In the case of neurological assessment, it is important that learners understand the steps to examination and the symptoms or complaints that are warning signs. The parents and clinicians of children with shunt failure should recognize serious signs and symptoms and choose the correct action when identification of critical signs and symptoms occur. Indeed, parent and clinicians should know what is normal and abnormal, how to explain what they observe and take correct action.
