• Potential economic benefits from remote metering and energy efficiency;
• European Directive 2009/72/EC to have 80% of consumers with smart meters
by 2020 and COM(2011) 370 for energy provider companies to promote energy

• $8 Billion pack from the US Government to update the electricity grid.
