1. Introduction
BOHEZ Concept & Support holds more than 22 years of experience in electrical drives and
mechatronics and specializes in a power range between 0,1 to 350 Watt. Early involvement
is a key of success to your project, but of course, you can integrate de services of BOHEZ at
any other moment. Collection of the specifications relevant to your project is made with the
help of the ‘Request of Technical data’ sheet and translated in our Design book. Based on
this document, BOHEZ will provide you an optimized design.
With the help of the “Inspiration guide to customization”, you will find different topics on
which you can optimize your drive and bring it to a play and play solution.

Areas of customisations

2. Winding
The adaptation of the winding is realized through the change of
 number of the windings
 diameter of the wire
Example: 2
Adaptation of winding,
Standard-Motor M48x50
Changing number of windings
from 24 to 20
Changing wire diameter
from 0,45 mm to 0,50 mm

Following relations are to be considered
 The higher the number of windings the lower the diameter of the wire
 The higher the number of windings the lower the speed
 The smaller the diameter of the wire the higher the resistance
(losses -> heat)
 The relation between quantity of winding and nominal speed/rpm is not
linear
 Low speed/rpm is not to 100% compensable through M -> power drop
Large diameter wire Small diameter wire
Goal is the optimal use of the motor size.

3. Brush quality and brush spring
Requirement to noise level
Brushes with reduced copper composition for reducing the noise level
Operation at low available tension
Brushes with increased copper composition reduce the brush tension friction
And thus reduce voltage drop in brushes
Operation with high revolution per minute
Use of enforced brush springs (higher contact pressure).
Reduction of the contact loss of springs due to “take-off” of springs.
Fast wear of the brushes.
Increased life time
Selection of the appropriate brush composition

4. Cant of Armature Lamination
Straight Armature
 Lower costs
 Easier assembly
 Standard model
Skewed Armature
Less detent torque (for gearbox: Holding Torque/backlash)
Operation at low revolution per minute/stability of rpm
Reduction of the starting voltage.

5. Protection Class optimisation
The range of motors is mainly available in protection classes up to IP40.
Different types of customized concept help to increase the protection class
against dust, humidity and/or corrosion.
Possible technologies:
 O-ring integration
 Cable gland
 Silicone

6. Wire Harness
Standard motor with brushes:
Wire length = 300 mm (except M28 with Faston connectors)
Standard brushless motors:
Wire length = 300 mm (Material: Radox or Betatherm)
Variations
M28 with cable / M42 with connectors

Possibilities (according to customer requirements)
Materials (single wire or cable / shielded)
Length
Connector (Phoenix, Deutsch, Molex,…)
Partnership with KEG (cable confections)

7. RFI Surpression
Brushed standard motors are without RFI suppression
(Except M36 standard: 2 x L)
Most easy solution: 2 x L
All other solutions (see examples) mostly with PCB
Values of the RFI components are adaptable
Standard motors are not tested for RFI normative by KAG

8. Endshield Variations
Standard motor with brushes:
Die-cast zinc endshield (only M80: turning workpiece)
Standard brushless motors:
Turning workpiece (aluminium) anodized coating
Variations
Turning workpiece (aluminium) on all motors
