Content management
System
A Content Management System allows users without any technical knowledge to contribute
to a website and to share data.
- Community Management System
- User roles (view- and editright)

8
Block 1 – Introduction Anymeta principles

‘Anything is a thing’
Every item (article, event, picture) is structured with relations and connections. This
structure is created by using metadata.

9
Block 1 – Introduction Anymeta principles

Metadata
Metadata:
“Data providing information about one or more other pieces of data”

Because users and editors add metadata to their contributions, the system ‘understands'
their relation to other things.

All contributions will therefore appear in the right place and with relevant context. This
saves editors a lot of time. This automated linking in Anymeta is called matching.

Domain model
At the start of a new website project,
the domain model is determined.

• 9. Block 1 – Introduction Anymeta principles ‘Anything is a thing’ Every item (article, event, picture) is structured with relations and connections. This structure is created by using metadata. 9
• 10. Block 1 – Introduction Anymeta principles Metadata Metadata: “Data providing information about one or more other pieces of data” Because users and editors add metadata to their contributions, the system ‘understands' their relation to other things. All contributions will therefore appear in the right place and with relevant context. This saves editors a lot of time. This automated linking in Anymeta is called matching. 10

5. \n
6. Introduction of block 1, part 1\n
7. Drawing by Willem\nAnymeta was made in 2002\n\n
8. Most people don’t know know html or php. In order to allow them to publish things on websites, we made a content management system. Editors don’t have to worry about the size of headers or the color of the introduction text. All they have to do is write good text and give good metadata. The rest is up to the system. \n\nOwners of the website decide who gets what role. This is decided in the beginning of the project.\n
9. \n
10. \n
11. domain - explain the roles between things and how it relates semantically to the ‘real world’ \n
12. show where the things from domain model are shown on story page. \n
13. A domain model consists of the same things on all Anymeta sites\nFor example on geheugenvanoost.nl \n\n
14. and the same things also exist on the buurtwinkel website. There, an organisation is a local shop, a buurtwinkel. \n\n
15. so say you are a person who lives in Amsterdam Oost, and someone wrote a story on you on geheugenvanoost.nl, then it is possible that you are also a customer of a buurtwinkel in Amsterdam Oost, that has been written about on buurtwinkels.ahm.nl\n\n
16. or you can be an actor in a story there\n\n
17. or the photographer of an image on buurtwinkels, or someone can tag you in an image. \n\n
18. \n
19. Matching is done with metadata. \nMetadata on this page is the author, the location, the narrator, and keywords.\nThe matching column shows stuff with the same metadata.\nClick the image to go to geheugenvanoost.nl and how clicking keywords selects similar stories in the matching column \nAlso, show the similar page.\nThis is the importance of giving your article correct metadata!\n
20. Introduction of block 1, part2\n
21. show left column: author, title, subtitle, introduction text, (actors) images in different blocks and body text. The right column shows related content which matches.\n
22. Show title, subtitle, calendar leafs and organizing party, introduction text, image, bodytext.\nRight column: fans, participants and related things\n
23. left column: images and text\nmiddle column: contact info, employees and fans\nright column: things that the organisation organizes and publications by the organisation\n
24. left column: the image or .pdf big, the author, CC rights, file info, people who are tagged\nright column: taken_at (sometimes map), where the image is used and matching stuff.\n
25. left column: images and text\nmiddle column: address info, fans and people who live(d) there\nright column: stuff that has happened in that location\n
26. left column: images and text\nright column: contacts, works for and all the other stuff that the person has done\nright column: stuff that you are involved in, like articles you wrote, or images you are tagged in\n
27. \n
28. Introduction of block 1, part 3\n
29. \n
30. \n
31. It is possible to add images in three different ways\n
32. But in our example, we will paste a link from an image that is already in the Internet\n
33. \n
34. Show how to find pics on flickr/creativecommons.\nDo this with the group:\nOpen your profile\nclick the camera icon\ngo to flick.com/creativecommons and search in advanced search for an image with creativecommons license. \nAdd this to your profile, take away the photographer, give a good attribution in the caption and then set the copyrights according to the CClicense. \ncaption is explained in the next slide.\n
35. \n
36. \n
37. Introduction of block 2, part 1\n
38. \n
39. \n
40. http://www.mediamatic.net/search/182178\nCheck if you have one listitem per person in this listpublish.\n
41. List items are the summarized view of your thing.\nThey have title, subtitle, first 130 or so characters of the intro text and relevant stuff for the type of thing.\nThey are the first thing that your audience sees and should tempt them to click and read your thing.\n\n
42. Discuss what the list items on the left could be.\nGo through the tips on the right.\nNow, click the image of bad practices and evaluate the listitems of the group. They can change their mistakes. \n\n
43. Click on the picture to go through all the preferences tabs on mediamatic.net\n
44. Every site has a /layout or /opmaak or something like that. Here you can find how to make bulleted lists, subheaders, bold, add a youtube video et cetera. \n
45. \n
46. ID is important\n
47. your stuff is under contributions\n
48. you can search things\n
49. and check the change log\n
50. In the footer navigation\n
51. everyone can see who created\n
52. and modified the article\n
53. And there can be another link to the layout tips.\n
54. \n
