There are many organisations that actively strive to protect and
preserve the environment. This is because Earth is an only home
for all living things. It is important to get more youngers to
participate in activities that does not damage the environment.
Young people should get involved on environmental activities such
as separating waste products, planting trees and set up recycling
centres. These are simple or valuable actions. The best place to
create awareness from the environment is in schools. It is the best
place to educate students on ways them can help save the Earth. For
example, they can be teach how to sort rubbish. Items such as used
paper, cans, glass and plastic should be separated while they are put
into rubbish bins. All of us, young and old, should play us roles to

Question 2
Read the following text. Then, answer question (a) – (j).
Malaysia – diverse, multiracial, multicultural country exudes warmth and love to each and
every one of her people. It is indeed heartening to see people of different beliefs and culture
interacting and communicating with one another in the Bahasa Melayu, the national language, or in
English, a trademark of the colonial rule of the past. The people’s own lingo is also commonly used. It
is this tolerance and the willingness to set aside cultural and religious differences that has enable
Malaysia to move forward as a fast developing and united nation. In short, the people’s tolerance and
love for their motherland has brought her peace, unity and prosperity. That is the very essence of the
catchphrase ‘Unity in diversity’.
Malaysia’s unity in diversity is also evident in cuisines she proudly called her own. Food like
the Assam Laksa and Nasi Dagang, are exotic mouth-watering cuisine of the proud Malaysians.
Malaysian unity is further strengthened through the Malaysian flag, or better known as the
Jalur Gemilang. It consists of 14 red and white stripes of equal width, a dark blue canton that contains
a yellow crescent and a yellow star. The crescent symbolises Islam as the official religion while the 14-
point star represent the unity of the 13 states and the federal government. The Jalur Gemilang is our
identity of an independent country free from the colonial rule.
Another popular catchphrase that is uniquely Malaysian is ‘Malaysia Boleh!’ which literally
means ‘Malaysia can do it!’. When we won models in the Olympic Games or reached the peak of
Mount Everest, this triumphant phrase is always around. We, Malaysians, always want to be the best,
be it in the local or global scenes.

- SPEAK UP AND REACH OUT -
As students, you may sometimes face problems in school, be it with your friends or with
your schoolwork. Here are some groups of people that you can turn to for help.
PARENTS
Parents are the people that are closest to you. So, when you face problems, you should
pour your hearts out to your parents. You should tell your parents about what is troubling
you. Your parents will be eager to help. They often offer advice, provide support and show
their understanding based on their own experiences.
SCHOOL COUNSELLORS
There are counselors in every school. Counselors are trained to help students overcome
their fears, anxieties and worries. They are qualified to give professional help to students
to deal with personal, social and even problems related to school work. Sometimes they
offer students career guidance. To do this, the counselors help students identify their
personalities and attributes so that the students can choose the right career path.
VOLUNTEERS IN HELP CENTRES
There are many volunteers who work in these help centres. They are trained to talk to
troubled students through phone cells. Some students prefer to talk about their problems to
someone they do not see face-to-face. One help centre that offers this service is
Befrienders.
PEER FACILITATORS
In school, there are peer facilitators who assist the counselors. These peer facilitators are
selected by students themselves, and they are interested to help other students. They are
given training on how to be a good listener. Some students find it easier to talk to someone
of their age group. They think that peers understand them better than adults especially

SECTION C

[Time suggested: 20 minutes]
Fainting can be frightening thing, especially when you do not know why it is happening or what
to do. It is more frightening than serious, but do take precautions. Here are ways you can take care of
yourself or someone else it occurs.
To avoid injuries, try to stop the victim from falling to the ground. If the person is standing
upright, lay him down on the ground or sit him down on a couch. Make sure it is not a chair without
armrests. This will still allow the victim to fall off it and cause injury.
Next, open the window or door to allow more air into the room. Another way to help a person
who feels faint is to get a cold compress and place it on the forehead. Wrap the compress in a cloth
before applying it.
When the victim recovers from the fainting spell, get the person back into an upright sitting
position slowly. Continue to give the victim support, even after they are sitting upright. Don’t allow him
to walk immediately. If the person is conscious, then give him some water. Don’t let him gulp a
mouthful of water. Make sure he takes small sips at a time to prevent choking.
If you feel faint, you may be able to take these steps. If possible, lie down. This can help prevent
fainting as it allows blood to circulate to the brain. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated. Drink enough
fluids, especially when your body is losing more water due to sweating or being in a warm environment.
Finally, ensure there is good blood circulation. If you have to stand or sit for a long time,
periodically stretch your leg muscles. Also, cross your legs to help improve blood flow to the heart and
brain. Try to avoid overheated or cramped areas. Call 999 for help if someone who has fainted for
about a minute still does not regain consciousness or is having difficulty breathing.

  • 2. SECTION B [30 marks] [Time suggested: 40 minutes] 2 Question 2 Read the following text. Then, answer question (a) – (j). Malaysia – diverse, multiracial, multicultural country exudes warmth and love to each and every one of her people. It is indeed heartening to see people of different beliefs and culture interacting and communicating with one another in the Bahasa Melayu, the national language, or in English, a trademark of the colonial rule of the past. The people’s own lingo is also commonly used. It is this tolerance and the willingness to set aside cultural and religious differences that has enable Malaysia to move forward as a fast developing and united nation. In short, the people’s tolerance and love for their motherland has brought her peace, unity and prosperity. That is the very essence of the catchphrase ‘Unity in diversity’. Malaysia’s unity in diversity is also evident in cuisines she proudly called her own. Food like the Assam Laksa and Nasi Dagang, are exotic mouth-watering cuisine of the proud Malaysians. Malaysian unity is further strengthened through the Malaysian flag, or better known as the Jalur Gemilang. It consists of 14 red and white stripes of equal width, a dark blue canton that contains a yellow crescent and a yellow star. The crescent symbolises Islam as the official religion while the 14- point star represent the unity of the 13 states and the federal government. The Jalur Gemilang is our identity of an independent country free from the colonial rule. Another popular catchphrase that is uniquely Malaysian is ‘Malaysia Boleh!’ which literally means ‘Malaysia can do it!’. When we won models in the Olympic Games or reached the peak of Mount Everest, this triumphant phrase is always around. We, Malaysians, always want to be the best, be it in the local or global scenes.

Here are some groups of people that you can turn to for help. PARENTS Parents are the people that are closest to you. So, when you face problems, you should pour your hearts out to your parents. You should tell your parents about what is troubling you. Your parents will be eager to help. They often offer advice, provide support and show their understanding based on their own experiences. SCHOOL COUNSELLORS There are counselors in every school. Counselors are trained to help students overcome their fears, anxieties and worries. They are qualified to give professional help to students to deal with personal, social and even problems related to school work. Sometimes they offer students career guidance. To do this, the counselors help students identify their personalities and attributes so that the students can choose the right career path. VOLUNTEERS IN HELP CENTRES There are many volunteers who work in these help centres. They are trained to talk to troubled students through phone cells. Some students prefer to talk about their problems to someone they do not see face-to-face. One help centre that offers this service is Befrienders. PEER FACILITATORS In school, there are peer facilitators who assist the counselors. These peer facilitators are selected by students themselves, and they are interested to help other students. They are given training on how to be a good listener. Some students find it easier to talk to someone of their age group. • 7. SECTION C [20 marks] [Time suggested: 20 minutes] Fainting can be frightening thing, especially when you do not know why it is happening or what to do. It is more frightening than serious, but do take precautions. Here are ways you can take care of yourself or someone else it occurs. To avoid injuries, try to stop the victim from falling to the ground. If the person is standing upright, lay him down on the ground or sit him down on a couch. Make sure it is not a chair without armrests. This will still allow the victim to fall off it and cause injury. Next, open the window or door to allow more air into the room. Another way to help a person who feels faint is to get a cold compress and place it on the forehead. Wrap the compress in a cloth before applying it. When the victim recovers from the fainting spell, get the person back into an upright sitting position slowly. Continue to give the victim support, even after they are sitting upright. Don’t allow him to walk immediately. If the person is conscious, then give him some water. Don’t let him gulp a mouthful of water. Make sure he takes small sips at a time to prevent choking. If you feel faint, you may be able to take these steps. If possible, lie down. This can help prevent fainting as it allows blood to circulate to the brain. Don’t let yourself get dehydrated. Drink enough fluids, especially when your body is losing more water due to sweating or being in a warm environment. Finally, ensure there is good blood circulation. If you have to stand or sit for a long time, periodically stretch your leg muscles. Also, cross your legs to help improve blood flow to the heart and brain. Try to avoid overheated or cramped areas. Call 999 for help if someone who has fainted for about a minute still does not regain consciousness or is having difficulty breathing. 7 Question 4 Read the article about ways to help a victim who feels faint.
