 Whilstresponsiblefor the Bid submission I amalso responsibleto ensure the quantities provided in
the ClientBoQ arecorrect and not havingthe company at risk to money loss if project was secured.
To satisfy this,I managea team of Quantity Surveyors in-house; instructingand guidingthem on
the measure to be completed (RC Frame, Internal Finishes,Landscaping,Sundry items etc), provide
assistancewhere required, review their work prior to accepting this as partof the company’s
measure risk contingency of the Client BoQ.
 Exposure to residential and commercial projects,as complex and iconic structures with limited
companies in the same expertise and professionalismlevel.
 Working under very tight timescales and much pressureto provide the information for the
submission date,includinghavingtheinformation presented in a certain way for the planners to
use (i.e. the measure and BoQ) within the Contract Programme.
 Preparing,sendingout, receivingand analysingsub-contractand supplier quotations in linewith
the contractbrief. Also then inputting the quotations into CCS and allocatingthe correctquotation
into the Bill rates,and supplementingwith any in house/direct works pri cingas required.

FacadeSpecialists,MEP, FitOut, FF&E, Joinery, and Specialistworks etc.

me havingapproximately 20 skilled and unskilled workers to directtheir work. I was doing the setting
out (usinglaser,EDM and Theodolites) to accurately set the work out, and when needed I helped out
the Chief Engineer on the main site works with the setting out.
 Responsiblefor compilingthe shortand longterm programmes, method statements, tool box talks,
siteinductions and generally ensuringthe work got completed to the required dates and to the
required specification.
 To learn effectively I was a hands-on Engineer and if concrete needed pouring I would help out, if
reinforcingsteel needed fixingI would tie it – in order to get the job done when needed.
 I also was the Health and Safety Officer for the whole siteand would undertake routine inspections of
the scaffoldingand excavations,etc. I would facilitatethe tool box talks to approx.50 men at a time
and ensure the workers were aware of the method statements.
 Due to the works being beneath the stage of the Royal Albert Hall I had a largeamount of liaison with
the Structural Engineer and Architect to ensure the integrity of the Hall was notaffected.
 I also attended collegeon a day releasebasis to attain a HNC in BuildingStudies.

 Refurbishment to 7 year old 5* hotel in Dubai;involvingthe logistics of refurbishmentin a live
busy Dubai hotel with average occupancy of 80% daily.The works included strippingback all the
hotel rooms, floor by floor,to get back to the shell of the room and then complete new fit
out/tiling/joinery/FF&E/Ceilings/Wallsetc.There has been waterproofing issues so itwas to
rectify this.As well as refurbishment to all the main restaurants and lobby areas to the hotel. The
project was awarded to another company after post tender negotiations and getting to 2nd place,
narrowly missingouton the award.

Career History: Employer: Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East) LLC, Dubai, U.A.E Position: Senior Estimator Dates: October 2013 – To date Murray & Roberts are South African’s leading Construction company and have a large presence in UAE with offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi specialising in iconic and complex projects such as Burj Al Arab, Dubai and Dubai International Airport Terminal. Sectors include Commercial, Residential, Offices, Education and Health Facilities.  Employed as Senior Estimator in Dubai responsiblefor reviewing and analysingbids,measuring from firstprinciples and creatingBills of Quantities on Candy estimatingsoftware as well as using Autodesk Design Review software to measure the main BoQ works as check to the ClientBoQ. This is to ascertain any areas of risk thecompany may be exposed to be over or under measure in the BoQ and submittingthe bid as Lump PriceFixed Sum for the term (usually 2 years).  Manage the complete process of a Tender Bid from receivingthe documents through to the Tender submission.  Organisingand Chairingmeetings relevant to the tender includingKick Off meeting highlightingthe tender / risks / opportunities/ key points / bulk quantities etc to the Pre-Contract team.  Whilstresponsiblefor the Bid submission I amalso responsibleto ensure the quantities provided in the ClientBoQ arecorrect and not havingthe company at risk to money loss if project was secured. To satisfy this,I managea team of Quantity Surveyors in-house; instructingand guidingthem on the measure to be completed (RC Frame, Internal Finishes,Landscaping,Sundry items etc), provide assistancewhere required, review their work prior to accepting this as partof the company’s measure risk contingency of the Client BoQ.  Exposure to residential and commercial projects,as complex and iconic structures with limited companies in the same expertise and professionalismlevel.  Working under very tight timescales and much pressureto provide the information for the submission date,includinghavingtheinformation presented in a certain way for the planners to use (i.e. the measure and BoQ) within the Contract Programme.  Preparing,sendingout, receivingand analysingsub-contractand supplier quotations in linewith the contractbrief. Also then inputting the quotations into CCS and allocatingthe correctquotation into the Bill rates,and supplementingwith any in house/direct works pri cingas required.  Chairingmeetings with sub-contractors in theanalysisof their quotations for the bid for example FacadeSpecialists,MEP, FitOut, FF&E, Joinery, and Specialistworks etc.  Responsiblefor the Tender QA and Submission Document (inc.all relevantinformation and ensuringthat the BoQ arein exactly the same format as the ClientSupplied BOQ).  Compiled the estimatingdatabase,as a pointof information,for the local Sub-contractors (all of
  • 2. different work packages),Suppliers,Labour Agencies, day work rates etc  Reviewing bid documents and raisingany queries/clarificationsneeded to the Client.  Attending pre, mid bid and posttender meetings with the Client/Structural Engineer/Architect and the likeand havinga full understandingof the tender I have complete responsibility for and answeringcomplex technical queries as to how we proposeto constructthe building  Negotiations with the Clientthroughout the tender period to answer their queries and get clarification on any tender queries, includingposttender negotiations to securethe project.  Reviewing all projectdocumentation for completeness and if any queries to raiseto the Client usingthe RFI procedure.  A separatepart of my roleincludes preparingand compilingall thecorporate and job specific information for Pre-Qualification’sto various Clients / Consultants / Project Management Companies,as required. Since startinghere I have completed over 40 Pre-Qualification documents for future projects / general PQ; of which several have resulted in receivingthe tender documents from the Client/ Consultants.I have formed a niche rolecompleting these Pre-Qualifications and I am the only one completing them as the company receives them. These are very detailed and complex and usually has a contentof over 100 pages includingthefollowing – Financial accounts on CD, Financial Summary of the company over the last5 years,HSE Information,QA Information, Project Portfolio,Current Projects,Accreditations and Certifications,Green BuildingInformation, Completing detailed Clientquestionnaires usually over 30 pages, Company resources and relevant CV’s etc. This also involves managingthea team of Document Controllers/Administrativeassistants to compilethe document and ensure all the information i request in the document is correct; this then gets reviewed by Management prior to submittingexternally.
